@Fuzzalini@PooltoyWolf Some (many?) browsers (including mine and Firefox) fail to reveal the image description unless you know where to look for it in the code after invoking Inspect on the Element. I could tell you what it says, but then I would get yelled at. Those are all the breadcrumbs I am willing to drop.
@Fuzzalini@PooltoyWolf@werehatrack All I saw (of course I am not even close to a techie person) was “Fursuit everyday, really!”. Did you see something else? If yes then obviously I don’t know where to look.
@phendrick@Star2236@andyw@kuoh@togle Thanks for the birthday wishes! I might break down and buy myself an ice cream cake. I had been thinking of going to the state fair except it is supposed to be 90 degrees and I don’t feel like spending the day in the hot sun as much as I like going on the rides and eating funnel cakes.
@andyw@kuoh@phendrick@Star2236@togle@brainmist@werehatrack Thanks again all for the birthday wishes. My kid finally remembered it was my birthday about 10pm last night (I am presuming she was prompted which is about par for the course with her so not surprised.). I did nothing spectacular but did buy ice cream instead of a cake (or instead of a cake mix and then having to make it and then do the dishes - nope nope nope) so that was good. And, as a plus, unlike cake it won’t go stale.
@jitc Oh, sympathies on that. We all are hearing that it’s over and no more problems, but it affects people differently especially at advance age or with existing conditions (which we all seem to have some of at an older age).
@jitc@pmarin One acquaintance tested positive, didn’t have insurance to get the course of Paxlovid, appeared to recover, was fine for a week, and then ended up in the ER with complications that his partner said were being called “long covid aftereffects”. He’s expected to recover pretty well, but it was looking pretty dire at first; pulmonary edema that reduced his respiratory effectiveness to under 40% of normal. (I have no idea whether that’s common.)
@pmarin@werehatrack that’s about where my mother was at. Even on oxygen, her O2 sat would plummet to near the 70s upon any exertion. No edema, thankfully, but she does have periodic afib and needed her heart restarted twice to regain sinus rhythm.
@jitc@pmarin@werehatrack I hope your parents continue to recover. I do know that it can take several weeks minimum for people to really start to feel closer to normal again. Good luck to all of you.
Warehatrack - I got covid last Christmas (despite wearing a mask) and then got long covid (as 60% of cancer patients do even if not in treatment). Had, amongst other things reduced oxygen diffusion so that made me really out of breath. Finally, at the last test of that a couple of weeks ago I finally broke the bottom of normal (I likely started much higher than that though as I had been in shape prior to that). I am encouraged that I am improving.
I was part of the RECOVER Paxlovid clinical trial and unfortunately early results of that (and a Stanford study and 13 European studies, and probably more I don’t know about) all have found that it doesn’t help. Sucks as that stuff makes your mouth taste nasty and I had to take it for 25 days.
@jitc oof, I’m so sorry. I caught the most recent strain (got careless) and two months later, I’m still dealing with neurological issues. I tested positive for at least two weeks (ran out of tests). And I have a few friends dealing with much worse.
@Kidsandliz my hairstylist actually recently had covid and managed to get Paxlovid through insurance and recovered in less than a week (she’s still in her mid-twenties, though, and seems in otherwise good health).
@jitc Paxlovid works well in most people (if taken soon enough) to reduce the severity of the illness. It did for me originally. Made a huge difference from not even wanting to get out of bed to feed the cats who were having a fit about that to 16 hours later actually thinking about getting up and eating something.
The trial I was in was for those of us who ended up with long covid. They were hoping that might treat long covid as well since apparently the virus is hiding away in all sorts of places in our body and they had hoped taking Palovid for long covid would deal with that. Unfortunately that was a bust.
I caught COVID last summer (exposed by family who wig out about me being conscious and cautious) but found out pretty early they’d been exposed, tested (that line popped SO FAST), got on paxlovid that day, and recovered quickly.
This time? No one seemed symptomatic, my only sorta symptom was a slight runny nose and some justifiable exhaustion from my work week… And then I realized I’d lost a week. I think I mostly slept, but I also apparently misfiled some stuff, deleted important emails, etc.
I was still positive two weeks later. Not sure how much longer…I ran out of tests.
@Thumperchick And send garbage bags too? You ought to try kids second hand shops if you aren’t saving things in case you have another kid. Some buy stuff outright (vs consignment). That is easier than a garage sale and likely you will be given about the same amount.
High school teacher in Tampa so it’s been a very long weekend that might keep going for awhile.
My plans are sit on the back porch and every once in awhile walk over to the grill and cook the random foods that are in my coolers so that it doesn’t all spoil.
Yes and yes! Lost a couple fence panels and a bit of sanity from listening to those winds but otherwise came out unscathed. Many near me weren’t so lucky but I’ve got a block home with hurricane windows and no large trees so my risks were pretty low as long as the roof didn’t blow off.
Yeah, our electric company put out a statement today. They explect to have the whole city up and running by Thursday. I’m near a major road and don’t have any flooding so I’ll probably be up before that.
I camp a lot, and as a meh shopper obviously I compulsively buy camping gear and batteries. So I’m good to camp in my back yard for well over a week with very little inconvenience. My wife had to work today so I sent her with a bag full of batteries to charge.
I will probably be working on bikes. Mine, my partner’s, and my daughter’s. Mine, so that it will be ready for a 20-mile ride on Saturday the 26th. The others because it’s prime bike weather at last.
@werehatrack Yeah good idea. A few years ago I did a bike maintenance course at an REI location where they had a bike repair shop. About 6 people could join and you got to use their bike stands and tools and lubes and stuff, with 1 or 2 bike techs that taught us what to do. Not major rebuild but all the stuff you would normally do to check and clean and adjust. It was pretty useful. You bring in your own bike so when you are done it’s like it was “tuned-up” but by you, so the idea is you’d have experience doing it yourself in the future. Was worthwhile.
@Kyeh I did not do this year yet but was considering it. Actually my local med clinic I’m signed-up with said they can’t get the new vaccines – I should go to Walgreens or Costco or other local pharmacies because they will have stock. Seemed strange.
I’m in the “you don’t go out much, do you?” category, or when I do, most are pretty careful. So still deciding on getting the vaccine or not this year.
@pmarin I keep hearing that the rates of infection are high around here right now, and I don’t want to give it to my very elderly mother (although she’s had her shots too.) When I walked into Costco there was a cheerful young woman loudly advertising the available shots, so it was convenient. But I’m in bed right now, with my kitty who’s just gone through the trauma of a vet checkup.
@Kyeh sorry you are feeling icky, but hopefully it subsides quickly! I still need to go get my flu and covid vaxx but Im avoiding it because I know it will knock me out for a few days.
@tinamarie1974 Thanks! It’s been variable for me, some times I don’t feel it much, but this time I really do!
Poor Toby’s been having trouble with his teeth. He also hasn’t had a checkup for 2 years. I kept putting it off because getting him in his carrier is really hard. He’s strong! But when I called they said I could give him some gabapentin to sedate him, and it really worked. I just hope it works in 2 weeks when he’s getting the dental work done.
I know he’ll feel a lot better when it’s over and he’s healed up, but it might be rough for a bit.
How’s Charlie doing?
And poor Toby Im glad the meds helped sedate him, and Im sure it will work next time!! You will have to keep us updated after surgery, please. Ill keep him in my thoughts
Charlies PTSD is still super amped. Going potty outside is super scary for him anytime he hears a noise or sees someone near our fence. It is worse at night. I am happy to say he is currently laying in the front of the house (out of my line of view) for the first time since it happened Sunday. Its a little step, but it is progress.
@tinamarie1974 I am feeling better today, thanks! And Toby seems fine too.
I’m glad Charlie has gotten brave enough to go back outside - that must be a relief. I hope he keeps feeling more relaxed!
@Kyeh oh, outside is still difficult, when I said front I meant my dining room.
He did go upstairs to lay in my room for about an hour, which is huge. It is normal for him to be up there most of the day, I swear he is half cat! But since Sunday he wouldnt go up there unless Im with him, I had to be pretty close by. So that hour was pretty exciting!!!
@Kyeh I’m sorry you were under the weather and I hope you are better by now. I avoid getting two vaccines at the same time, but not because I am worried about increased side effects (and I usually have none or just an ache at the site). I split them so that if I do get a bad reaction I know which one did it so I can plan appropriately the next time. I had the COVID booster and now will get the flu vaccine.
@andyw Thank you! I feel fine today. It’s really been variable for me - sometimes I have a reaction and other times I don’t, or just a sore arm for a little while. I guess I like to get it all over with at once!
@Kyeh I’m glad you are doing fine. My wife agrees with your method, as do many medical sources. The latter often recommend that method because fewer people will miss a vaccination since they don’t have to make another trip. I am a retired medical professional and am sure I will remember to get the next vaccine and I am close to a lot of places to get it.
@andyw@Kyeh And there’s some evidence that getting them both on the same day enhances the response to the covid vaccine at the very least. OTOH, I know that I’m not good for much of anything the next day.
@pakopako I remember being in an office building over a holiday weekend. Strange being alone in a big building when nobody else is around.
But most fun was in an equipment area where we had big electronic equipment with huge amounts of power input. I was trying to get things working well enough for a customer that was coming in after the holiday weekend (the next day?). So I swapped a board, which apparently caused a short, and I went to a console that faced the wall to “turn on” the system (by software) then noticed the room had a weird haze in it over my head, and realized there was a huge amount of smoke behind me. Hit the “big red button” to shut off all power. By then fire department was on the way and alarms going off. I thought the room had a Halon system so I had to press the Halon Abort button, but later on was told it wasn’t really connected. Fire dept came in with Oxygen masks a few minutes later. I got to say they were very quick and well-equipped, but ultimately it was an “all under control” thing by then once power was off. That’s probably my best Silicon Valley experience story. (or might have a few more?..)
Meh
Looks like answer three comes with an abbreviated weekend!
@andyw So much to type, so little tim.
KuoH
@kuoh Well done!
@andyw ala The Weeknd?
@andyw ala The Weeknd?
@andyw @phendrick It’s a great life if you don’t weeken.
/showme having fun this weekend with Cats and goats
@mycya4me That picture would never happen in reality. At least with the cats. A “cat park” would have sofas everywhere and the cats would just hide under them.
@Fuzzalini @mycya4me
Not in my house. The cats would claim them as theirs and dare me to try to sit on them.
@Fuzzalini @Kidsandliz That is so true. If it is not nailed down it is their to do what they want!
@Fuzzalini @Kidsandliz @mycya4me Anything not nailed down is a cat toy. Anything a cat can shred loose is not nailed down.
Going to a pre-season basketball game where we expect a special announcement, some fun park time, but also doing taxes.
Some work, some play. All good!
@callow More sleep, all play. Even better!

#FursuitFriday
@PooltoyWolf Do you really need a special day?
@Fuzzalini Check the image description
@Fuzzalini @PooltoyWolf Some (many?) browsers (including mine and Firefox) fail to reveal the image description unless you know where to look for it in the code after invoking Inspect on the Element. I could tell you what it says, but then I would get yelled at. Those are all the breadcrumbs I am willing to drop.
@Fuzzalini @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack All I saw (of course I am not even close to a techie person) was “Fursuit everyday, really!”. Did you see something else? If yes then obviously I don’t know where to look.
@Fuzzalini @werehatrack I’m an Android user, so I’m used to just tapping and holding on the image.
@Fuzzalini @Kidsandliz @werehatrack You found it!
@Kidsandliz @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack I also have an Android and I figured it was a long hold to get properties. Every day.
@Fuzzalini @Kidsandliz @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack My iPhone wouldn’t show me anything.
What’s a weekend? Grocery shopping, vacuum paking the meat and studying to pass an exam…
@ragingredd
Sounds kinky…
@macromeh @ragingredd I’m guessing vacuum-packing the meat is a mistake people only make once.
It’s my birthday this weekend (Saturday)!!! Nothing special planned however.
@Kidsandliz Happy day before your birthday!
@Kidsandliz Congratulations, you win another no expenses paid trip around the sun!
KuoH
@Kidsandliz Happy Birthday!
@Kidsandliz
Happy birthday
@Kidsandliz Always special to celebrate not having croaked the past year.
@phendrick @Star2236 @andyw @kuoh @togle Thanks for the birthday wishes! I might break down and buy myself an ice cream cake. I had been thinking of going to the state fair except it is supposed to be 90 degrees and I don’t feel like spending the day in the hot sun as much as I like going on the rides and eating funnel cakes.
@Kidsandliz Happy birthday! And hey, I’ll bet sunset will cool things down, and carnival rides are best at night!
@andyw @Kidsandliz @kuoh @phendrick @togle
I’m an elephant ear person.
@Kidsandliz Hey, sorry - happy belated birthday!
@Kidsandliz Happy personal new year!
@andyw @kuoh @phendrick @Star2236 @togle @brainmist @werehatrack Thanks again all for the birthday wishes. @brainmist @Kidsandliz @kuoh @phendrick @Star2236 @togle @werehatrack I’m glad it worked out-and there is nothing wrong with ice cream! Happy Birthday again.
It’s a 3-day weekend for me, thanks to Christopher Columbus and the federal government. Only Sunday is totally free, though. I’ll be busy sleeping.
I’m likely going to need to fly out emergency style to care for my octogenarian parents who are both recovering from hospitalization with Covid.
@jitc Oh, sympathies on that. We all are hearing that it’s over and no more problems, but it affects people differently especially at advance age or with existing conditions (which we all seem to have some of at an older age).

I’m retired, so it’s just another day… they all seem the same!
@eddhernandez Every day is Saturday. Something I felt during the lockdown year.

Did you stay in Tampa the entire time? Your house ok?
@ddbelyea Any estimation when you will get power back? Or is that like asking what the winning lottery numbers will be next week?
@Star2236

I got my flu shot and Covid shots yesterday at Costco. I’m really feeling the effects! Part of the weekend might just be spent snoozing.

CDC has entirely dropped the ball on alerting people, but they’re still logging wastewater levels, which are helpful.
