@JerseyFrank I don't want to start a new thread myself to test this, but are you saying that when starting a new thread, after submitting the link dialog box the new bracketed text doesn't show up along with the link for you to enter the link description? I'm not sure what it's doing differently since when I hover over your link above it's still showing the title that you put in quotes. The only thing that's 'wrong' is that it's showing the 'enter the link description here' text instead of the link itself. I would think that if you don't change that text then the way it should act is it would just show the link itself and not have any other text there in place of the link.
@brhfl I'm aware. But, the 'enter link description text' comes up automatically after you submit the link. If you don't change that text to something you want, it will appear as above rather than just as the url.
I'm saying that... a) I expected "optional title" to really be "link description," which is obviously user error and... b) In the original post, the "enter the link description" text was auto-populated with the text I had entered as "optional title", though further tries say that I'm either mistaken, or there are some other unidentified steps required to reproduce.

@PurplePawprints That's unnecessary though, as a URL on its own with no other markup surrounding it will display the URL, and link to it.

Forget the link button, just type:
[hey check this out](http://google.com)
...which renders
hey check this out
@katylava Or type out your link text, select it, and then use the hyperlink tool to insert your link.
@katylava does this work in replies?
Oh good, I think I can remember that. The fancy way the formatting buttons do it seem too complicated to remember.
