Tasco USB microscope supported in Linux 4.1 kernel
5Hello Tasco microscope owners who run Linux (basically @hamjudo I believe)!
After much time, the patch adding support for the (very mediocre) Tasco USB microscope is now in the upcoming Linux 4.1 kernel. I didn't write it.
It's actually surprisingly easy to add this (or any of the other media drivers) to your current system without switching to/compiling the 4.1 kernel.
Follow the directions under "Basic" approach here: How to Obtain, Build and Install V4L DVB Device Drivers

Can you backport it to 2.4 please?
Boy, you guys have been waitin' a long time for this. (09/10/2014)..
@unkabob Technically not- there was already a patch available for the device before Meh sold the item, it just wasn't part of the mainline kernel. Now it is.
@dashcloud ... Ten-Fur.
I have a very mediocre Carson Optical USB microscope -- is that supported?
@PocketBrain Off hand, not sure. If you've got the device, and a Linux machine, it's easy to tell- or if you have the USB product id (PID) & vendor id (VID) pair, I can give you a better answer.
