Edward Frederic Benson (1867-1940) was the younger brother of Arthur Christopher Benson and Robert Hugh Benson, all of whom wrote ghost stories, although Edward, who may be better known as the author of the “Mapp and Lucia” books, wrote the most. I’m not that crazy about most of his stuff, so although I hate to be going with the obvious choice… Well, it was this or The Room in the Tower. Anyway, thanks once again to Project Gutenberg Australia, here is:
