@ruthwik1 since i couldnt cancel orders from less than 2 hours ago, i had to go pity-buy a couple more things to reach the $100. stuff i guess i could use, but really didnt want to waste the money on right before xmas. I only hope it actually takes the $50 off and not requires that i also bought the irk… since it sold out by the time i thought i had the chance of going for it.
@jnicholson0619@ruthwik1
They’ve said a bunch of times that you had to have bought the Irk, which would then be free - you don’t get any discount on your Meh purchases.
@Kyeh@ruthwik1 well, that sure screws my kids over on their xmas. times are tough enough right now. I thought that about the irk as well, but when they updated it from $100 to $99.99, it appeared as tho it didnt require the irk once it sold out… so i figured, if im already blowing $60+ (half of which i didnt have to have, but they wouldnt allow me to cancel anything), i figured I’d at least get to the $100 to get the discount after trying to read thru again to make sure i was reading correctly, AND trying to send them an email to clarify… i figured i wouldnt get a response tonight, but i was hoping for that small chance… ugh.
@phendrick@ruthwik1 I already have jumper cables and I actually just bought a brand new battery less than 2 weeks ago. Sadly, the battery required for my van probably requires more juice than this thing can pack… the new battery was $200 (and thats the costco price ) because i have the start/stop feature. Required the high performance battery.
@djslack@Kyeh i tried canceling one just over an hour later, and it was too late. Will sure make me think twice about falling for gimmicks on here in the future.
Thing is, on the meh side, it doesnt say it requires an irk purchase. Just that at $100, itll refund $50. Its only the side deal side that a vmp commented that it required an irk.
@jnicholson0619 sorry you’ve gotten yourself into this situation. Just over an hour is exactly that, over an hour. You have placed enough orders here by now you have to have seen that it says you can cancel for one hour when you order something.
@djslack
I wanted one of these but unfortunately I fell asleep around 10pm. I missed this and the IRK that I was waiting to buy until the last hour.
Oh well…¯_(ツ)_/¯
How much was it anyway?
@djslack Thanks! I remember seeing it somewhere, maybe Side Deal for $34 so I don’t feel that bad about not saving only a few bucks.
Glad I was sleeping and missed the IRK selling out, if I’d been awake and missed it I REALLY would’ve had big time regret!
In for 2. My daughter just started driving, so this gives me a little piece of mind.
I could have used this the day I took her for her drivers test. My battery went dead in the parking lot and thanks to the kindness of the instructor, we both got a quick lesson on how to jump a car.
@k4evryng
I was just going to say how great it is that you’re teaching your daughter how to jump a vehicle! I’m extremely grateful that I was taught all that stuff when I was young. I never understood why those kinds of things like changing a tire and checking the oil and other fluids weren’t required in order to get your driver’s license, like vehicle maintenance.
Anyway, glad you know now and BIG KUDOS to the instructor!! It’s a gift that will last a lifetime!
@Lynnerizer it really was a gift! I was totally embarrassed that I didn’t know what to do, lol! Now we both know! And yes…kids absolutely should learn to do those basic things. All I can do is change the wiper fluid and check the oil level (and now, jump a car, lol!).
My daughter wanted to learn how to change her oil just for fun, and my husband and son let her get under the car and talked her through doing it all by herself. She was so proud of herself, and I was very impressed! When she told her boyfriend, he was stunned. It was pretty funny.
She’ll learn to change her tire soon. Maybe I should hang out for that lesson, too.
@k4evryng
No need to be embarrassed, you’d be surprised how many people (including men) don’t even know how to change the wiper fluid! Lol So you are already ahead of game! And about her changing the oil, very impressive! She’s a rockstar!
I can’t speak to this specific brand/model, but these portable chargers are THE BEST idea ever. I think mine is DBPower, like 800A, from Amazon.
Infinitely more convenient and faster than hooking up to another vehicle - heaven for parking garages or garages of any sort, and they’ve even saved the day on a friend’s boat once.
Worth every penny, even for double the Meh price - I’ve used my portable jump a ton. Every car or boat should have one charged and ready to go - I’ve purchased 5 over the last couple years for fam and friends. (No, i don’t work for a company even remotely related to this industry, but having one in the car has saved me at least 3 times.)
@epicadventure agree. And just the other day I was in a parking lot when a guy hit me up for a jump. I don’t have one of the packs in my new truck (gotta fix that) and I was suddenly struck with the perhaps unfounded fear that this methed out looking guy was going to hook up his 1992 S-10 wrong somehow and fry a computer on my end since everything is a computer in 2022.
We did the jump successfully and there was no problem, but that’s another level of peace of mind one of these brings you if you have a newer car.
Anyone else concerned that if Tacklife makes jump starter packs, lawn mowers, standing desks, robot vacuum cleaners, and a laminator, they might not be very good at any of those things?
@caffeineguy the picture I get is that they were fine at licensing all of these things from the same factories a lot of other brands do. What they were not fine at was staying on the right side of Amazon’s rules, my guess would be for review related behavior.
Enacfire was the same way. They made some legitimately excellent Bluetooth earbuds at budget friendly prices, but they gave them away for Amazon reviews. Now they are gone from Amazon and I’m surprised still around - but some very similar looking earbuds are on there with different names now.
@caffeineguy@phendrick Way too many Government activities are micromanaged from the outside by committees of people who know too little about the subject and usually can’t even agree about whether it’s Thursday.
I like them enough that I bought four of them when they were listed previously. They are darn sure worth the money, and in the majority of situations, they’re going to do the job. I had to use one of them this afternoon to jumpstart a vehicle that I’ve been slowly working on, a PT cruiser that needs a lot of TLC but will be a lot of fun to drive when I get it done.
So I ordered this on Side Deal on Nov 27. It arrived today around 2pm and had 3/5 bars. I put it on the charger when I got home from work, then I get a call from my wife around 30 minutes later that her car just completely died on a street nearby. It was already dark and she wasn’t able to put on her emergency lights or anything. I threw this bad boy in the car and drove around the corner to where she was. After pushing the car off the road, I hooked it up, got a red light and beeping sound. Turns out, I wasn’t paying attention when I hooked it up and the polarity was reversed. When I hooked it up properly, a green light came on and I was able to start the car right away!
I was super impressed at both it doing its intended purpose and that it warned on reverse polarity. And also the timing of delivery and being able to put it into action…
@maht87 Well that’s rather fortuitous. I got mine today, glad to not have had it become so immediately useful, but especially glad to know that it will be useful when I need it to be.
hmmm, mine haven’t shipped, so I don’t see how they can make the delivery date. It’s still early but I have 10 items that haven’t shipped between meh and SD. Fingers crossed that things start moving.
I was curious if this was a jump once and charge situation and if it could handle a really dead vehicle. I just had an opportunity to try both questions at work. We have 2 of the big commercial jump batteries, but I pulled my new little one to try it. 1st pickup super dead, if you turn it off you will need to jump again, it started easily. Took it over to pick up 2, it started 2 weeks ago ok but dead today. Hooked up the battery and fired right up. Checked my battery level and it still said full. Impressive little handy tool. All the charging options and attachments are a great bonus. Would buy again.
So i’ve been using mine since I got it in November. It’s been amazing. I’m able to get 6 jumps to a Ford Expedition before having to recharge it.
I’ve used it probably 10 times. I just bought the T8 that is up today. Figured I’d let all ya’ll know my experience.
I’d give it 5/7 stars. perfect score.

And so it goes. MEHRRY-IRK-MAS ends not with a bang, but a whimper.
Will this help me get out of bed in the morning?
@awk Depends. How averse to nipple clamps are you?
Prospects for $99 looking very slim each hour
@ruthwik1 haha right rrright
@ruthwik1 aren’t we out of hours now?
@ryanbruce I just realized

@jnicholson0619 Is it too late to cancel the most recent purchases?
@jnicholson0619 @Kyeh you have an hour to cancel an order, I believe.
@djslack @Kyeh i tried canceling one just over an hour later, and it was too late. Will sure make me think twice about falling for gimmicks on here in the future.

@djslack @jnicholson0619 Lengthy thread about all that here, including comments from snapster himself:

It’s the thing a bunch of people wanted! If only I could remember who they were to tag them!
@djslack I would have bought four
@djslack

@Lynnerizer $30. I’m pretty sure it was $40 before when it wasn’t in a mehrathon. I ordered two for my nephews back in like August.
The IRK sold out a good bit before the last hour, too.

Looks to be $52 on newegg.com.

Finally of course it has to be the last thing for sale today

I have one of these and it kicks ass. Haven’t had to jump yet but it’s made a kickass charger while out on a camping trip. Build quality is excellent.
