@elpepe It’s just for reducing dander and dust. It actually works pretty well. I got this last month when it was up, and the first filter’s a dark grey now. It’s clearly catching something in the air.
@elpepe@finalremix I agree, bought one a few months ago and just bought another… People don’t understand this is not a air purifier, it simply helps eliminate dust from the air…
@elpepe@finalremix@Kgraer Bought one in the hopes that within 5 months I’ll be able to find or put together a DRM hack. This is exactly what I was looking for - trying to slow down the accumulation of dust around all my computer junk.
I bought this last time
It’s basically a fan pointed straight up with a cloth bag over it and a nice come that hides it all. it sucks air in from the bottom and forces it through the bag filter.
It’s huge - seriously do not buy this for your desk. Almost 3’tall.
The thing I like about it is that it provides really great white noise.
I don’t think it really works that well as an air filter so if that is what you are looking for, it and air filter, not this.
Apparently the filters have DRM embedded so you can’t use third party ones. Filters turn into a pumpkin after a month of use and new ones are expensive.
@jandrese Not entirely accurate, I bought this thing last time, and while the filters are DRM’d, it will continue to run with the current filter after 30 days, it just has a little LED that blinks incessantly until you change it. I’m still on the first filter, and we’re about three weeks past the original 30 day window. Though it’s starting to look quite dark, so I’ll probably change it soon.
Got this the last time. It’s huge, like @jmhsrv said. It’s also completely quiet. Doesn’t make as much sound as a small desk fan when it’s on. The first filter turned a horrid grey with the “wear” pattern on it, so I swapped that one out. It seems to be catching something out of the air. It’s just not an air “filter” per-se… it’s more of a dust/dander reducer for a room.
I got one from MorningSave after I saw a comment from @ChadP. I guess it works well enough, it is certainly not a HEPA filter.
Has anyone figured out a way to bypass the chip so the filters last more than a month? I think they stop working in a month no matter how dirty. Seems rather arbitrary.
@kdemo it does not stop you can run a filter as.long as you want.i ran my first filter for 6 weeks without an issue change it when it gets dirty and ignors the light countdown
@kdemo@mellowirishgent You might be thinking of the v1.0 which does not have the chip. This is v2.0 which looks identical except for the chip in the filter.
Also, the chip is only time based, not filtering based, meaning if you have this in a fairly clean room it will still stop after a month and force you to change the filter even if the current filter is mostly clean.
@mellowirishgent@robisodd - Thanks to you both.
Mine definitely has a chip. I will at least try to clean the filter and use it again. I know it’s probably futile.
Guess I will find out what happens soon enough - the light has been blinking for a while.
I bought it in the last meh and I do not recommend. Firstly, they take proprietary filters, last for about a month, so total of about 5 months then off to buy new filters. I have Conway, levoit and winix filters at home as I got little paranoid with the first baby and living in Midwest, most of the time u get stuck inside. After using this in a room, I moved my Conway, and it showed the room was still dirty through indicator light, took about half hour for Conway to “clean” the room. I guess hepa filter did the trick which this doesn’t have. Bottom line, this is NOT AIR PURIFIER but glorified dust remover. My 2 cents edit- it seems few other reviewers feel the same
Best review about it on Amazon “This is probably the worst idea for anybody with allergies. The unit gathers in dust and then cannot hold that dust in the filter so it is redistributed back into the room like a cloud. The filter is not even used but a week and looks clean but the dust being pushed off is awful. It runs continuously.”
Yeah. I also got “sucked into” buying this, and it’s way worse than the basic air filter/ionizers+pre-filters that I have used before. And at nearly twice the price, before you even include those monthly stupid air filter replacements. Please save your money and don’t buy this, it’s a ripoff (IMO)! Sorry, Meh, I really want to love you, but this is a real dud.
Don’t buy this. Not only is it a silly idea but it’s got some DRM nonsense that forces you to buy only Swiffer “filters” once a month regardless if they’re truly dirty or not.
HEPA filters and carbon screens are the way to go if you’re serious about cleaning the air.
I got this last time. If you have a pet this thing is fantastic. Soooooo much hair was sucked up into this thing. Filter lasted a month. Towards the end of the 4 light cycle it blinks. It kept working even with the blinking light. Not thrilled with the whole chip thing but they aren’t crazy expensive.
I don’t recommend this “air cleaning system”. I bought one last time it was on Meh. It basically does nothing. It ran for a month and starts flashing for a new filter but the one in it isn’t dirty which makes sense because the thing barely moves any air. Dust in the room was not reduced a bit. Dropped it in the trash can along with the extra filters.
For the record, I bought two of these last time. The filter unit is huge, way bigger than I expected. The filters do have a DRM chip, and there is a little LED countdown letting you know how long the filter has been in use (four LED’s so about 7.5 days each?). I had expected it to just stop after 30 days, but the fan continues to run with the current filter, the last LED just blinks constantly until you replace the filter. I’m about three weeks past the 30 days with my first filter. The filter is noticeably darker than when it was new, so it’s doing something, and I’ll probably change it out when it hits 60 days. At that point, I’ll wash the filter and try it out in the second unit, to see if the DRM works across devices.
@emseearr might be just mental, but I felt like it wasn’t doing as well after the light started blinking. I noticed more dust/hair around than when it was new.
Got one on morningsave, it did seem to help in my room. Debating getting a second now. And as others have noted, it didn’t shut off after the light gets to the blinking stage, so I’ve also left mine running for now
Got one of these last time, and it’s been working pretty well. I keep it next to my gaming PC, and since it’s been there I’ve had almost no dust buildup over my fans.
After my first filter runs down the timer, I plan on opening this thing up and bypassing the chip system completely. It’s literally just an AC fan, so I figure it won’t be more complex than soldering a wire or two.
@J5892 From the other comments, it sounds like all the DRM chip does is turn on the $$$ nag LEDs and not actually turn the fan off. If that’s the case, then you might only need a piece of strategically placed electrical tape, color matched for those who are more OCD inclined.
I thought it sounded awesome last time, so I signed up for the meh membership again because I have two cats. After a month I checked and there was almost no cat hair sucked up into in it, and hardly any dust. It barely made any nose at all, so maybe that’s part of it. I might have got a defective one. Also, it’s really really huge. I keep not cancelling my membership because I think I’ll see something awesome and then this thing that I regret buying comes up for sale again so I’m thinking now might be the time to cancel…
Ours went into the donation pile after we bought it here last time they had it for sale. It was sitting right next to dog hair and failed to collect it…at all. It was quiet…quietly doing nothing. Waste of money.
On the video he said strip the yellow and white wires? And then connect to which screw on the board the ground? He started confusing me when he opened it completely up… just stick to the basics dude. Please and thank you.

I think too many people think this is a air purifier and it is not and that is why so many people are so disappointed. It is a dust reducer period. Someone said the filters were 6 dollars a month I don’t think it is that much especially if it keeps me from dusting so much and the dust down in my house. I have never lived in a home that has had such a severe dust problem. I can dust and in just a few days it can be just as think as it was. It is so hard to keep up with alot of times I feel like giving up. It sits on top of my curtains, I have to wash them every week it is just awful. Does anyone think this item will help this problem bc I have severe allergies and asthma and I need something to help. Thanks.

Must take a deep breath and decide…
You’re selling something from an actual brand? Are you sure that’s not supposed to say “swofter”?
@vinuash No, it says ‘smiffer’. The W is a misprint.
@Gypsigirl213 @vinuash Wouldn’t that be Sniffer?
@Gypsigirl213 @vinuash Reminds me of woofi.com . . .
where’s the Bluetooth version?
no HEPA = trash

@jmhsrv Thank you. My estimation of the size was way off.
I was like, it’s small probably doesn’t work that well, but if it sucks some of the dust from around my desk it’s worth it.
But I guess I’ll pass now.
22" tall.
Is this the unit where you need to buy a filter with chip inside? The one you can’t reuse filter?
@zsunsun Yes. DRM and $6.00 per filter. Hard pass!
Oh wow, I was seriously considering this until you said that! I’ll never support anything that forces you into an unnecessary DRM situation!
@zsunsun they sent me two extra filters when I bought

I bought it last time. It’s not great. I don’t recommend it at all. Especially if you have asthma.
This is a bottom sucker, and suckers buy filters over and over.
Thank you for explaining how 3.3 is less than 4. It makes me want to buy it.
Yeah. I also got “sucked into” buying this, and it’s way worse than the basic air filter/ionizers+pre-filters that I have used before. Bought this on April 17th I keep it running 24/7 it does a great job love this item to death
I wanted this to be another brand of a home assistant. I got into a fight with my Alexa Echo and she is not talking to me now.
Can you just vacuum clean an old filter? Or does the DRM have something kinds of time stamp on it preventing an old filter from being reused
@neveraging DRM prevents you from reusing a filter.
I was interested until I heard it demands a new proprietary filter every month.
No. The DRM chip is bull dooky.
For the record, I bought two of these last time. The filter unit is huge, way bigger than I expected. @kevlar51 It’s possible the filter is “full,” so air isn’t passing through it as freely as when it was new.
Trying to decide how many to buy. Picked one up last time it was on Meh and am way more impressed than I should be.
Queue Kansas…
Purchased this last time, haven’t shut it off since plugging it in. One of my best Meh splurges.
Got one on morningsave, it did seem to help in my room. Debating getting a second now. And as others have noted, it didn’t shut off after the light gets to the blinking stage, so I’ve also left mine running for now
I love these things … they actually work…

KuoH
@J5892 @kuoh That’s what I’m thinking. I think I have some electrical tape left over from where I “fixed” my dashboard warning lights.
@J5892 @kuoh
@J5892 @kuoh you mean put tape over the blinking light.
Does this operate a lot differently that a HEPA filter?
@Dengue HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air" so no, it does not operate differently–it just doesn’t filter as finely.

Does it capture poo particles that linger from that one awkward, stinky friend you always have to invite over for cookouts?

Well not sure if it’s a or a that got mist
For all of you wondering how to disable the “DRM”…
On the video he said strip the yellow and white wires? And then connect to which screw on the board the ground? He started confusing me when he opened it completely up… just stick to the basics dude. Please and thank you.
@lisalew it’s the white wire and the black one that are connected together. The board is removed.
