Super duper awesome Google Earth Chrome extension
8I just found my favorite Chrome extension that is well worth giving a shot. Earth View from Google Earth. Every new tab you open gets an awesome background from Google Earth that changes each time you get a new tab.

I’m usually one for function over form. Have you noticed any impact on browser speed/performance/responsiveness since dynamically adding these pretty pictures to every new tab?
@medz other than the very first tab I used with it, which slowed down loading for the first time, I haven’t noticed at all. And I was worried about that at the beginning, but thought to give it a shot, and it works really well.
I even opened a dozen tabs just now testing it, and each opened at the same speed, all in less than a second, and seemingly as fast as it was before.
I use extensions like The Great Suspender that help speed up my browser too (I’m a master tabber, so having most of my tabs suspended helps a lot).
@luvche21 The Great Suspender is awesome.
@Fuzzalini Yeah it is, saves me loads of resources when I won’t come back to something for hours (or days or weeks in my case… yeah I’m that bad)
I really want to try this, but there is a caveat among the reviews -
@luvche21, Would you check and see if Google Maps is working for you?
@kdemo oh no! It doesn’t work any more! I’ll have to do some more testing to see if there is a workaround. If you read of one, please do let me know. Otherwise, it’s absolutely fantastic and introduces me to the beauty of the world with each new tab…
@luvche21 - Thanks! As noted, the review writer mentioned just using a different browser for Google Maps. Hoping they’ll fix that issue, because I’d love to use this, but I love maps too.
@kdemo yeah, that’s a deal breaker for me though sadly I’m glad you pointed it out though, I would have been wondering for quite a while why my maps weren’t working. I’ve already had issues with them where every month or so one of my cookies or something would break Maps and Youtube, so I would have to clear my cookies and cache before they would work again. I have no idea what’s going on to cause that one.
@luvche21 - Thing is, according to the first few reviews, it is not a problem for everyone.
All you have to do is figure out the difference!
