Walmart’s beauty box is back with a special edition Halloween box. Two different options that have almost all the same items in them except for one has an option of a lipstick or an eyeliner. $9.98 for several full items shipped to you.
@OldCatLady
I think there’s a $100 off the Amazon Recast TV device (Tivo-like OTA DVR). There’s also a separate topic for Prime Day. The deals seem to be “spend $10 now at our less successful/well-known side gigs, get $10 off during Prime Day”.
My mom planted a crop of tabasco peppers on the farm a few years ago. I have no idea what funky thing affected them, but something in the soil, the sun, the fertilizer she used… I dunno. Tabasco peppers are normally pretty benign, but that season her crop like to melt my teeth out of my mouth! The habaneros and pot primos weren’t nearly as hot as that one crop of tabasco peppers.
@ruouttaurmind@CaptAmehrican this is the thing I said I wouldn’t eat. I ate a bag of their haunted ghost pepper chips and it was delightful in its excessive spiciness. But reviews of previous one chip challenges by people who love extremely hot things mentioned things like miserable, stomach pain, and never again. That and $7 made me pass.
FYI they are at Circle K stores for the same price if you need that hit faster.
When my wife and I were dating she brought me some jalapeno peppers her mom had grown that had the same freak thing happen to them. I grilled some up with fajitas and they were face meltingly hot. The green ones were way hot, and the red ones inedible to me. I asked her about them and she said “yeah, they’re kinda hot. I was eating them raw with a little piece of cheese.” That blew my mind. Now, though, she says many things are way too hot.
@CaptAmehrican@djslack@ruouttaurmind My daughter drinks jalapeno pepper juice like it is water. She dumps on cayenne pepper powder on stuff like it is sugar on cereal. OMG I have no idea how she can eat stuff that hot. She’d probably love red ones - me I’d make sure my food is cooked separately.
So I’ve been on the fence about this one. Maybe it’s a deal, maybe it’s just meh, but I decided to order one and find out. I’m feeling like this will be a good crafty bench in my home office.
Additional 10% discount if you spend $300 or more on office furniture and/or home decor (you can mix and match between categories). Use discount code HDOFFICE10 at checkout. I put three of these in my cart and my total including tax was about $366.
Generous 36-inch x 72-inch tabletop, height adjustable from 24 inches to 36 inches. Steel legs and base, 1.25-inch thick high pressure laminate table surface.
I’m feeling like the size is just about perfect for crafty stuff, gift wrapping, a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut workstation and such. If it’s sturdy enough it might even be suitable as a garage workbench, or converted to a router table or woodworking bench.
You can use the offer multiple times, so if your order exceeds $200 try breaking it up into two orders to double dip the discount. If necessary, it’s probably worth adding some filler item or two from the list to round out two $100+ orders. It’s like getting free tools then, innit? I love me some free tools!
Pay with Discover Card for an additional 5% Cash Back Bonus on all Amazon orders (must activate the quarterly bonus offer at Discover).
I finally get to replace that Dewalt Atomic sub-compact recip saw I got a few months ago. Great saw, amazingly lightweight and compact, but not really suitable for serious jobs due to the short stroke length (TWSS). Good for pruning trees or trimming up some PVC, not great for extended use tasks involving many cuts. So… now I have a better option for my use on the way!
@RiotDemon I received mine yesterday afternoon. It’s an absolute beast compared to the Dewalt Atomic sub-compact saw. It cuts better than the 18v Dewalt full-size saw, nearly on par with my old Bosch corded saw. But it’s really, really loud and vibrates like crazy at high speed. For the price I am pretty sure I’ll be satisfied with this purchase.
Amazon had Modernist Cuisine at Home (the $140 home game version of the $500 Modernist Cuisine multivolume epic, dumbed down so you don’t need expensive lab equipment to reproduce the techniques) on a lightning deal today for $76.99. Previous Amazon low price was $84.
I went back tonight because I still had a tab open. The book was back to $99.99 but now had a $33.33 coupon to apply. The $66.66 price is less than even used copies sell for. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0982761015
For those of you that enjoy sous vide, this can lead you to an entire world of science-style cooking.
I managed to get in on my laptop instead of my phone. They had shoes left. I thought you had a choice of orange or blue, but, no it’s a mismatched pair. $50. HAHAHA! I hope people enjoy them.
MSRP: $200. This is the lowest price ever for this kit with Amazon as the seller. Currently in stock and eligible for fast Prime delivery (as soon as tonight in my area). Pay with Discover for that sweet, sweet 5% Q4 cash back bonus. That effectively drops the price to $152.
I’m not typically a fan of the Technic kits, but something about this one appeals to me. This is a fairly sizable model when finished. It includes quite a few intricate details which won’t be seen once the kit is complete, but probably makes for a fun build.
No, I just couldn’t justify the price for Technic. This particular set is interesting, but I just paid a grip for a new roof. Was contemplating the wisdom of maybe using my found Amz credit on Amz Fresh or Pantry stuff so I won’t actually have to exist on ramen and latex bologna for the next few months. Maybe I can use that credit for a case of mac n cheese or a few dozen tins of SPAM.
@ruouttaurmind@tinamarie1974 Binging with Babish says parmesan on buttered noodles is an atrocity and junior is a big fan. So I make his recipe- boil noodles, add butter. Good thing I have youtube to teach me these things.
Normally $20, this is the lowest price ever for this kit according to the tri-dromedary. And of course let’s not forget: Pay with Discover for that sweet, sweet 5% Q4 cash back bonus. That effectively drops the price to $15.20.
Pro-tip: compatible with just about any brand of shop vacuum. As long as your vacuum’s inlet is 2-1/2 inches, chances are you’ll be able to shove this premium hose in there. Also includes a hose-to-hose connector for extended hose length (not sure why, but TWSS).
Description says “car cleaning kit” but I can see many other applications for these accessories. Particularly the brushes and the ability to string 2 hoses together. @djslack, holla! You probably need this.
@ruouttaurmind I’m tempted. A good many reviews note the hose breaking or the nozzle coming off the end of the hose, though, so I’m thinking about it for the moment.
@djslack I also read the negative reviews which complain about the hose. Here’s how I mitigated that:
The majority of complaints are about the hose separating from the end fitting. If I experience this failure I’m reasonably confident I’ll be able to remedy it with some epoxy or possibly Bondic.
The attachments (minus the hose) will work on any 2-1/2 inch hose using the included adapter. RIDGID attachments are not inexpensive, and just the attachments alone are worth at least the price of admission.
There is a chance I may not experience the dreaded hose malfunction. Those 572 five star reviews came from somewhere after all.
So I tossed the dice, committed to another 3 days of the ramen diet, and put in my order.
@ruouttaurmind I picked up a set at my local hd on the way home tonight. Also one of their clearance endcaps was on point. Hue starter packs $49, hue wireless dimmer kits $24, various LED light bulbs 3packs $2 to $3. I avoided the hue stuff but did get led bulbs to replace various bulbs around the house.
Low-ish stock at all my local stores, so expect this to be a sellout soon enough.
I’m thinking this might make it easier to scrub up those soap deposits from my shower tile, and get into the hard to reach crevices on my car and truck wheels. Maybe polish up the glass on my glass top stove? Plus, I’m sure I’ll figure out some way to mount a blade to this thing and make some kind of redneck “hold my beer” saw.
@ruouttaurmind if it doesn’t work on your wheels get yourself a mother’s powerball, as long as there aren’t crossing spokes involved (they’ll eat it right up). It won’t help with the tile, though.
@ruouttaurmind I got one of these last year for Christmas, unfortunately I keep forgetting about it and still on package in the garage. So no review here.

A+ on the topic name.
Are there any good pre-Prime Day deals out there?
@OldCatLady

Too bad so many of the the old meh staff has scattered. Would love to see a vid of them getting their Reaper on.
@ruouttaurmind if you eat that I can send you some of my ghost pepers
@CaptAmehrican Ya, I’m adventurous, not stupid.

@ruouttaurmind something wrong with your link. It also appears that only one color is on sale.

@RiotDemon Thanks for the linky. walnut must have gone OOS. That’s the color I ordered for myself.
@ruouttaurmind the 30"x60" version is also on sale for a bit less if that one is too big:

@ruouttaurmind damnit. I already have a reciprocating saw. Why must you tempt me with a dewalt to match my other tools.
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind Gotta color coordinate.
@RiotDemon Do you have a yellow and black cordless recip saw? Can’t hardly call your tool collection complete then, can you?
After this one arrives on Monday I will have FOUR recip saws. Time to thin the herd.
@ruouttaurmind this is why I must resist! I have one… And my brothers is taking up rent in my garage.
I don’t reeeeaaaaally need another.

@ruouttaurmind so did you get yours tonight?
$169 now. Still a good deal, but I’m having a moment of clarity that I haven’t built the last lego set I bought yet.
@djslack
So you’re saying there’s plenty of room for more?
No, I just couldn’t justify the price for Technic. This particular set is interesting, but I just paid a grip for a new roof. Was contemplating the wisdom of maybe using my found Amz credit on Amz Fresh or Pantry stuff so I won’t actually have to exist on ramen and latex bologna for the next few months. Maybe I can use that credit for a case of mac n cheese or a few dozen tins of SPAM.
@djslack @ruouttaurmind do you not have any pasta left from pastadrop?
@RiotDemon No pasta for me. Wasn’t that a VMP deal? I canceled VMP a while ago in an uncontrollable flash of wisdom and clarity.
@ruouttaurmind anybody was allowed to buy pasta. You should of bought some!
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind how did you avoid the pasta drop of 2020???
Pretty sure I have roughly 50 lbs here
@RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 I have I think 150 pounds but we’re slowly working our way down. My son likes buttered noodles.
@ruouttaurmind It was worth it for the coupons alone.
@RiotDemon @ruouttaurmind @sammydog01 I won’t discuss how much my mom, sister and one of my uncles still has. It was hilariius!!
@sammydog01 Buttered noodles with a sprinkle of grated parmesan and some scallions or chives. Mmmm… tasty!
