@shahnm
Yeah, it seems to be the theme around here lately, they’ve also ghosted the IRKS and MEHRATHONS! Glens not lonely, they’re all together in GHOST HEAVEN!
@boygenius1991 What? You don’t like covering yourself in micro-plastics every night? I’m sure a lot of this will get into the air too so you can breathe it! I for one love the though of being permeated with microscopic particles of plastic that will never degrade and continue to build up in my body throughout my life.
Microfiber. Sigh. Just say this sheet is 100% pure plastic.
Oh, and 90 gsm?
All sheet manufacturers grade microfiber by weight (grams per square meter, or GSM), not thread count. A higher GSM indicates denser, more durable fabric. Sheets typically range between 90 and 110 GSM. A good quality set offers 110 GSM and will have a lustrous, silky finish.
I usually buy sheets from Meh. They make good gifts for the in-laws, usually. My wife liked the color of one of the sets, so now I don’t take the chance.
Do these “spirit linens” come with spirits attached? If so, how did they get to be spirits? Did they die from violent acts, or just over-sexed acts? Either type of activity tends to leave (gasp) STAINS (eww). I hope they were sufficiently laundered before being stuffed into plastic baggies. I want to be free to make my own memories (and stains), not inherit those of some undocumented haint.
They release microfibers every time they’re washed.
Microfibers are microscopic fibers that are causing a massive problem in our waterways. Many microfibers act like a sponge and absorb toxins in the water.
Aquatic wildlife will then consume these microfibers and take in those toxins. These toxins keep moving up the food chain until they eventually find their way into the fish we consume, which means we’re also consuming the microfibers and toxins.
@olperfesser Bamboo also isn’t natural fiber any more. There is such a thing as natural bamboo fiber (“bast bamboo”, or “bamboo linen”) but it doesn’t exist any more because people found that once the positive properties of that fiber had been described, those properties could be falsely attributed to much cheaper “rayon from bamboo” and people would believe it and still buy it and the companies pulling this scam somehow wouldn’t get sued.
@olperfesser@ravenblack
And rayon is just a fancy name for a fiber that has all the drawbacks of the plastics, combined with the drawbacks of some natural fibers in the area of shrinkage. It’s the worst of both worlds.
@olperfesser@ravenblack@werehatrack As a sewist, I disagree. Rayon is breathable, unlike any of the plastics, and doesn’t shrink in my experience. You have to wash it extremely carefully and drip dry it, but that’s also true of silk.

@yakkoTDI
No holes detected.
So soft it’ll make you forget there was ever a thing called an IRK or a Mehrethon!
@guybrush01 soft indeed
OH MY GOD THEY GHOSTED GLEN!!!
@shahnm
Yeah, it seems to be the theme around here lately, they’ve also ghosted the IRKS and MEHRATHONS! Glens not lonely, they’re all together in GHOST HEAVEN!
@shahnm Wait, when did Glen get shoulders?
@macromeh @shahnm He bought them off of Morning Save a couple months ago.
Peeyoo, plastic sheets. No thanks.

@boygenius1991 exactly! Why anyone would want these is beyond me even if they were free. COTTON! You want cotton sheets people not this garbage.
@boygenius1991 @ginazmck
I would take real linen or hemp in a pinch.
So it’s not linen
“Spirit” linen… what a fucking joke.
@weatherseed Neither spirit nor linen.
Microfiber. Sigh. Just say this sheet is 100% pure plastic.
Oh, and 90 gsm?
These are 90 gsm, meaning thin AF.
Are these made from material to keep you cool or keep you warm?
@JT954 Plastic will not keep you cool. Being thin, they might not keep you very warm either.
If linen was wrinkle free, people would still wear linen suits.
But also nobody would ever wear a fricking “Sprint linen” suit.
Giant bleh.
@vaticdart if it’s wrinkle free and looks nice? Sure we would.
That’s some cheap sheet!

Eco-Friendly… NOT.

@quasimojo
Thanks for that info, I hadn’t heard of it.
I only believe in alcohol based spirits.
We buy better and cheaper at Costco.
I wish Meh would offer cotton sheets.
@fgmart this. Get off the plastic sheet thing.
They may be plastic, but at least they’re only microns thick…
@Pufferfishy they’re wafer thin!
“Linen”
That’s false advertising
@rsilbiger Absolutely. I bought it, then hastily cancelled.
“Fewer” deaths. Not “less.” “Fewer.”
I actually really enjoyed the write-up today. I learned something.
They are cheap. But they are not natural fiber like cotton or even bamboo. No thanks.
@olperfesser Bamboo also isn’t natural fiber any more. It says “sold out, you missed it”. [Looks around] Nope, I don’t see anything that I missed. Avoided, yes, but not missed.
I am so glad I missed out. If it was still active, I would have checked out so fast, only to see the comments afterwards that it isn’t real linen.
