@Kleineleh yes. well it likes to burrow, so it may do a bit of that too. More like a snuggle really when you think of it. I think it's a perfect match !
@Kidsandliz Are you talking lizard or ferret ? My cats were afraid of ferret( and they are hunters) But lizards not so much. Plus ferrets have some pretty nasty teeth. I don't want them messing with that.
@Pony Yeah, he really is cute. I just wish he wasn't crawling around above my bed. Plus, I've got a lot of poison along my baseboards, so I'd rather catch him before he gets into all that
It was normal to see tiny geckos on the walls when I stayed with my girlfriend's family (they live in Taiwan), so the topic gave me a chuckle.
No idea how the mini geckos kept getting inside, but they were super cute and probably kept the mosquitoes down. Don't think their cats mind too much, either, even though there's carnage after roaches show up.
100% certain this one's an anole rather than a gecko also.
@ozzallos This is what the gekos look like that hang out on my back porch (and sometimes sneak into the house). They've never screamed at me, but they do "croak" when they're nestled into the corners waiting for a quick snack to flutter by.
@ruouttaurmind yes, THAT is a Gecko. my brother's house in the DFW area has them both inside and out. inside, they tend to only come out at night, and stick to the high walls. never seen one at ground/carpet level, or anywhere near a person if it could avoid it, even before he had a cat.
@earlyre I'm in central AZ and they tend only to come out at night. As you mentioned, they like to stick to the high walls and ceilings. Once in a while a baby one will sneak inside the house, but they're pretty easy to catch and send on their way back out to the wild.
@ruouttaurmind This is what my geckos look like, too. There are about 6 watching me type this on my back porch right now.
Two have gotten into the house, one tried again a few days after I threw him out (i know because he left his tail behind). They really scare my girlfriend, but I enjoy watching them eat bugs.
@earlyre I'm in the DFW and just moved into a new place. There were geckos every-bloody-where. I'd get a shirt out of the closet and a gecko would leap onto my hand. Quite disturbing. The exterminator came out, got rid of the bugs, and now the geckos are down significantly. The cat may have helped as well.
This is an anole, and they are pretty cool animals. Not to scare you, but some sub-species can change colors in a short range between green to brown.
If you can manage to catch it, they actually sell these at PetSmart for about $15 a pop, so you could bring it in and say it's a non-receipt return... maybe they'll give you store credit ;)
@gueltron 'Don't know anything about the ethical issues of passing off wild critters as pets. But it clearly is theft to return something to a store that you did not buy there. Not much different from grabbing $ from the register when they're not looking.
@RedOak Actually, it's quite a bit different. Again, aside from the fact that you are effectively inducting a critter into a life of pet-dom, the return of any product to a store that will then be able to turn around and resell that same product for the same amount is hardly theft. If anything, it's unwitting consignment sales. Is it wrong to do? Sure. Is it like grabbing cash from the register when they're not looking? Nope.
And now, to the other point, the life of an anole/gecko in the wild kind of sucks, when compared to the life of one in a loving, caring home where no birds are waiting to swoop down and eat them, and food is plentiful, and warmth is always just a lamp away...
@curtise I respectfully disagree on both points. No business wishing to stay in business buys its inventory at the same price at which they sell it. (Unless they are Amazon and their stockholders accept losses/no profits perpetually.) So it is theft. And as that business owner would you want an outsider determining what your inventory levels should be?
I'm no PETA-kook but it seems they would also disagree with you.
@RedOak Could it be considered a form of theft? Perhaps - time/resources/etc. Is it equivalent to grabbing cash from the till of a business when they are not looking? Hardly. (In my opinion)
But that isn't the "stick your hand in the cash register part". You are being paid ("refunded") the full retail price of the item when you "return" it. Businesses do not buy their inventory at Retail price. You are very transparently stealing the business's profit/margin on that item. The business cannot make a profit on that item if they resell it because they paid full retail price for it.
That is no different than sticking your hand in the cash register.
I will concede that Fred is an anole. I didn't know what flavor lizard he was, but was pretty sure whichever one I picked would be wrong. And I was right, haha
A taller-than-me friend came over after work and Fred has now been successfully re-homed to the back yard. It's a little bittersweet. I shouldn't name things I can't keep.
@Thumperchick no...i think i did the first two times it came up... or maybe i was just thinking of my Uncle Fred, who is an A-Hole...in his defense though, so am i, it's a definite family trait. (insert spaceballs clip/gif here)
Hush, you see, what I found? There is a lone gecko, we can try to capture it, a gecko can provide us with several days of energy, they are rich in protein, but the gecko can not deal with the. We slowly approach it from behind, be careful not to make any noise. " " Hey, I caught, it struggled badly! We put its head cut off, the rest of the site can be eaten raw, of course, if the time is urgent, we can first toast, it would be more delicious. " " Well, they taste Beng crisp, tastes like chicken.
Hope he doesn't start talking about insurance.
@hallmike If he's that gecko, maybe I can charge him rent
Looks like a lizard, not a gecko, but I wouldn't know. I do know you could save up to 15% on your car insurance by switching to geico.
What will you when you wake up in the morning to find that it decided to climb down and get in bed with you when you were sleeping ?
@ceagee THIS is exactly why I am not sleeping right now
@Kleineleh I could send you a ferret to catch it. : )
@ceagee Will it sit on my bed and guard me while I sleep?
@Kleineleh yes. well it likes to burrow, so it may do a bit of that too. More like a snuggle really when you think of it. I think it's a perfect match !
@ceagee haha, aww cute
@Kleineleh ...after a while you'll need an owl to get rid of the ferret infestation.... then a owl-eating gorilla to get rid of all the owls....
@ceagee Ooohh oooohhh cat toy!! Any one of my cats will catch it, play with it, kill it and then eat it for you.
We have those in the house fairly frequently. They don't last long. I do try to catch them and liberate them before the cats notice.
@Kidsandliz Are you talking lizard or ferret ? My cats were afraid of ferret( and they are hunters) But lizards not so much. Plus ferrets have some pretty nasty teeth. I don't want them messing with that.
@ceagee lizard
@ceagee My money would be on the ferret in a fight with a cat.
At least it's cute!
@Thumperchick Agreed. AND it eats bugs. I really wouldn't mind it being here if I weren't afraid of it crawling on me.
Aww, hi there, Fred! Can we interest you in anything? A beverage, perhaps a spider?
Looks like an anole. Can't tell for sure though. He's a cute little dude though! I love leezards.
@Pony Yeah, he really is cute. I just wish he wasn't crawling around above my bed. Plus, I've got a lot of poison along my baseboards, so I'd rather catch him before he gets into all that
@Pony
Definitely an Anole
@Knukkles I've had a few of those as pets over the years. Sweet little guys.
@Pony
In Florida we got the anoles and the geckos. Both are kinda awesome but the gecko's habit of ejecting its tail on the random was definitely creepier.
@trisk Agree on the anole. I was looking through all the comments to see if anyone else thought the same.
He'll scream if you try and catch him. At least ours do here in AZ. They're not green either. Kinda tan tiger stripped. Cute little guys.
@ozzallos I think you just convinced me that he's going to stay until he leaves on his own
@ozzallos This is what the gekos look like that hang out on my back porch (and sometimes sneak into the house). They've never screamed at me, but they do "croak" when they're nestled into the corners waiting for a quick snack to flutter by.

You should buy a nice camera so you can take better gecko pictures.
@sligett Really wish I could. Unfortunately, that money is going towards sealing up the house before more new friends can move in.
it's ok you can probably capture it by offering it a warm place to crawl up into like an armpit or
ok no you're doomed sorry
This is an anole, and they are pretty cool animals. Not to scare you, but some sub-species can change colors in a short range between green to brown.

@gueltron Kidnapping and passing off wild animals as pets is unethical at best. Certainly cruel.
@gueltron Yeah, I think he was trying to change colors this morning. That awful pink is pretty hard to match though
@gueltron 'Don't know anything about the ethical issues of passing off wild critters as pets. But it clearly is theft to return something to a store that you did not buy there. Not much different from grabbing $ from the register when they're not looking.

@Kleineleh but will Fred lose his flavor on the bedpost overnight?
A taller-than-me friend came over after work and Fred has now been successfully re-homed to the back yard. It's a little bittersweet. I shouldn't name things I can't keep.
@Kleineleh
Anyone else keep reading anole as a-hole?
Just me?
Damn.
@Thumperchick Yep. Every time. Even as I was typing it.
@Thumperchick no...i think i did the first two times it came up...
or maybe i was just thinking of my Uncle Fred, who is an A-Hole...in his defense though, so am i, it's a definite family trait. (insert spaceballs clip/gif here)
@Thumperchick Not just you. Anyone saying otherwise is probably fibbing.
If it doesn't bite or sting, who cares
He is cute.
@smilingjack That's what she said

@TDMVP73 How did you get past the chinese firewall?
@cranky1950 I don't understand what you refer to, maybe this will answer your question? http://sputniknews.com/asia/20150820/1025973213.html
