86If you enjoy keeping up your Meh face clicking streak, head over to the meh.com home page, scroll down, and you should see the calendar and meh stats back in place! (If you don’t, check to see if you’re logged in.)
If you don’t regularly click the Meh faces, head over to the meh.com home page and you won’t see the calendar and meh stats.
I worked with Shawn on setting this up so the page will stay simpler and cleaner for those not into the game of it all, without removing a (clearly, really, I heard you) beloved feature for those who are into it. I understand this won’t be perfect for everyone - it’s set to display for anyone with a current streak of at least 7 days - but I hope it will work well for most.

If you miss a day, after 7 days does it come back?
If this number is at least 7 you’ll see the Meh face calendar and stats on the homepage.

We know you were reading along Dave and we still have no idea what the hell you were talking about in that one response, but thank you for listening and giving us back our beloved faces and stats. Not sure what some of the crowd will think who miss random days and still want to see them daily (maybe it should be a toggle option for everyone) but the fact that they’re there and visible truly does mean something to many of us, as you saw.
Kind of hoping a lesson was learned through this process!

FWIW, after so many days of silence - either non-response or responses that few or none could parse - I thought community sentiment was likely to lose this one.
I kinda guessed that Mediocre might be outgrowing Meh, as the core revenue businesses grow and, I hope, do very well;
Perhaps Meh becomes more and more just a side-hobby.
Practically just like an appendix.
So that, if Meh becomes troublesome: perhaps, neglect it.
Or remove it.
So I was wrong. And I’m v glad to be wrong.
If that happened: if Meh became more trouble than it’s worth to the company as a whole, I would be very sad.

If you’re at liberty to discuss it, what was the reasoning behind removing the calendar in the first place? Did its presence make the site more complex-looking for MorningSavers and other potential mehtizens, or was it simply removal of a feature that appeared to be unused and thus could be cut for ease of maintenance?
So if I start clicking the Meh face again the calender will reappear when I have seven days in a row, and then disappear if I miss a day. Is that correct?

I’ve never commented before but I feel compelled to say thank you for listening to the community. The calendar and streak counter on the main page was probably one of my favorite parts of this website and it was really sad that it was gone. Moreso it is nice that a company listened to the community when there was pushback about a new design choice rather than how most websites/apps simply push ahead.

I’m (sniff) just so damn (sniff sniff) HAPPY right now (sob)!
Why are so many people falling allover themselves to grovel and offer thanks for this situation. A feature many enjoyed, and was freely available to all, is gone. Now to see the calender one must prove they are worthy of doing so by building and maintaining an unbroken streak of a certain length. If life intervenes, or one simple forgets and the streak is broken one is give a seven day timeout during which they are forbidden from viewing the calender. IF during the timeout the button is pushed each and every day one is then allowed to view the calender once again. WTF, I do not like this change, and l do not thank you for it.

Restoring the faces makes biz sense perhaps for Meh. I would argue so.
But Meh is a “hobby business” for them.
It all depends on the company’s chosen attitude.
It won’t help the bottom line in the overall biz.
It might make biz sense or not, but that’s also entirely up to them. And they pay for the design, coding, and maintenance.
So it’s rather a gift.
C) And it’s free.
D) And those who don’t want to thank anyone at the company for the altered click-face calendar restoration still get to have it, in the new and altered form!
E the 1st) The new and altered form will make many people crazy at times. A huge plus!
E the 2nd) people like being “heard” by a company that gives them “something fun that in itself makes no $”, and are responding to the gesture.
E the 3rd) Some humans do human relations. It’s a thing for some.

Great! Have been so fed up the last couple days over this that I haven’t clicked on the meh face for the past few days. I have no face calendar showing up. Will I ever see it again or am I locked out?!
@benj I’ve clicked on the meh button a total of 1573 days My longest streak was 542 days! That should matter. At least it does to me!
@benj From what I understand, after 7 consecutive clicks, the calendar will begin showing on the home page again unless/until another click is missed. So, not forever if you are usually consistent in your clicking.

Why can’t they make it so that clicking the meh button activates the calendar/stats?
No click = No calendar
Click = Calendar
Can they do that?
@krock1 They can do that. But they probably don’t want to. The button has kind of lost its meaning and @Snapster even suggested getting rid of it all together. Doing it this way creates an incentive for people to come back every day. If you want to see the stats on the main page, you will have to click the button every day, which means you have to load the ads at the bottom of the page every day. If you don’t want to or can’t visit every day, the stats are still available in your profile. If clicking the button isn’t a priority, you won’t feel cluttered by information you don’t need.
If the calendar/stats activate when you click the button, there’s no reward for your loyalty and there’s less of a chance you will return every day.

@shegs your current streak of meh clicks is only 3. Once you get to 7 days, the calendar will show.
@RiotDemon @shegs, once they get to seven, it will show up on the following day. That sucks. Now, if you miss a day, it’s gone for over a week. Not a good solution.

@RiotDemon that’s fine, doesn’t mean it’s not stupid. It gave people a reason to come every day even knowing 90% of the crap on the site wouldn’t be worth spending money on, I could still play the game and occasionally buy something that fancied my interest.
I give it a few months of decreased interaction by regulars before either they change the design (a reasonable excuse to get rid of the faces) or just return the calendar since there is no reason for it to be gone.

Funny story, I had hidden my profile for privacy reasons. A little after midnight I logged in to see the latest item, clicked and then in a panic, could not remember if I clicked on yesterday’s item. I realized I had to figure out how to unhide my profile so I could see if I missed it.
After unhiding my profile, I was reading my activities and saw one of my posts in the forum post for the faces disappearing had quite a few likes. I had not looked at that thread for a while and I clicked the link to see how many new posts had been made since my last visit. Only then did I find out the calendar/faces were back.
In less than a week I had already reconditioned myself to not scroll to the bottom of the page to validate my click. Time to re-recondition.
Again, much thanks for returning the calendar/faces.

FWIW, I do UI/UX as a big chunk of my job and I didn’t find the site cluttered and in need of cleaning at all*. It is what it is - a thing for sale, a community behind it, all presented with a side of whimsy. Seems like you are trying to pare it down by removing/hiding some the whimsy. Did you intend to do that? 'Cause my uninvited consultation wouldn’t advise it… the whimsy is what makes Meh Meh.
*Okay, it’s a little cluttered on the mobile view - but I’d sooner do some selective hiding based on media queries than remove things all together.

My problem with the change is, when I used to miss a day, I would go to the calendar to click the previous day to see what I missed out on. Can’t do that any more.

@AttyVette You now have to click on the meh face for seven days in a row to be able to see the whole calendar. If you miss even one day, you have to start the seven day countdown all over again.
So, I get that you guys want to clean up the page a bit, but the logic here doesn’t make much sense to me. If I miss just one day then the calendar disappears? There’s no buffer or anything at all? I think it would make more sense if it were something like if you miss a week it goes away or maybe if you miss three of the last seven days.
The other day I realized I had missed two or three days for whatever reason. I hopped on Meh and went to find the calendar because I was curious what I missed, but, alas, it was gone. I was rather surprised and completely heartbroken. I like the calendar, not just because I find the faces cute/fun, but also because it’s a really easy way to access the listings from previous days. Personally, I think it would be nice if I could simply enable the calendar in my account settings.

Not a great fan of this arrangement either.
Newish visitors will never know the calendar possibility even exists, unless they become regulars for other reasons, and read up or whatever. Or luck into clicking until they notice it.
The possibily of continuous clicks is one thing that can draw n00bs to return daily.
But that’s not very likely if the n00bs don’t even know that the calendar exists, or see how cute it is. Or how painful it becomes for a regular to miss a day.

Congratulations, @meh for having broken the space-time continuum. My activity shows the votes for each day, but somehow that’s no longer contiguous.
It’s also impressive that within such a short span of time we could go from fine, to ticked about the lost features, to elated at the return, and back to broken again but worse for no reason. Bravo.
