Sirius vs Sylvester Meh Radio
15For the past few years I’ve had Sirus radio in my car. The renewal came in the mail recently, telling me my cost for another year would be over $300. I thought, “Fuck this!” and decided to which to Sylvester Meh radio. So, I loaded up one of the little Sylvester MP3 players with music and plugged it into the usb port in the console of my car. The results are awesome! Thought little Sylvester looks kind of lost, down there inside the dark console.
But the car loves Sylvester so who needs Sirius?

Quick heads up: Call Sirius and tell them you'd like to cancel. Be polite. Why do you want to cancel? Well, it's just too expensive, isn't it? They'll drop it down to about $90/year for you. STILL too expensive? I thought so. Which is why I'm paying $18 for 6 months.
I'll have to do this again in a few months, but... I like the Pearl Jam channel (and Alt Nation) and THEY HAVE A BILLY JOEL CHANNEL (18) now! Billy was my first concert (Storm Front '89) and he's playing one west-coast concert in May, which happens to be in San Diego, and happens to be two days after my 40th birthday. WOOHOO!
t;dr Call and ask to cancel. Ask twice. $18 for 6 months.
@DaveInSoCal
Thx, your deal is better than mine, below. Now am ready for next month's call to Sirius.
@f00l they probably gave me the same deal you listed below, but prorated for the time i had left on my contact (1 month?)
If you want Sirius back, they always have a promo going. Something like 5 months for around $30 after tax. Perhaps the promo is 5 months for $25 and they have to charge cellular-style taxes. This is only for new subscribers.
So i call them the week before my sub expires. I say i'm not renewing, too much $ or i wanna cancel, too expensive. Then i say if i could get that new subscriber rate i mentioned, i'd keep the service. We argue for a min, i get xferred, there is some pro-rating, and i get the above rate. Do yhis every 5 months. Always works. Takes about 5 min usually, 10 min tops.
If i forget to call and the auto-renew hits, i just call and threaten to cancel if i don't get that deal. Again, they pro-rate, always works.
During an election year, i want my news and my Stern.
Otoh, a Warner Bros cartoon character is prob good for the soul.
Awesome!!!!!!!!
I just went cold turkey with Sirius. Son gave ne Spotify Premium for Xmas so when I get tired of my own library I can switch it up.
Sylvester Meh is so good my brother told me he wants Sylvester Meh for his car too. I have a couple more and may just surprise him with one.
Tweety and Sylvester = Sansas of meh.
I can't remember what POS sat radio came with my car. I just know when they kept calling me to renew and I told them flat out I didn't want their POS when it came with the care and I wouldn't pay them a dime to renew it, they kept calling. When I threatened them with formal harassment charges they quit.
Have never understood pay radio or even high price pay to watch TV, but it seems how the world goes. Don't have a use for either.
Go meh!
I've had it twice. Over a decade ago I bought an add-on XM radio and 3 years of service prepaid, and when it ran out I just let it go. Then when my trial ran out on my new car back in 2012 they wanted too much money to renew. I'd read on the web about a deal they had for $77 a year and tried to get that but the rep told me "unless you got that offer in the mail I can't give it to you." The Internet sucks for companies that try to charge some people more than others sometimes. Especially for something as totally optional as satellite radio.
Now they send me letters to get 5 months for $25 like once a month, but they can go fuck themselves because I've got podcasts, and lots of them. But I like the Sylvester idea for tunes. Maybe I'll get a Tweety next time around since I have a yellow car.
Yup. Really no need for XM when you have a deck that has a micro SD card slot, Bluetooth, USB port, Disc slot (for DVDs, CDs, and MP3 discs). 3.5mm aux audio input...oh and FM radio too. Plenty of free options.
I always call to cancel just before my subscription is up and they give me almost a half-price deal. Next time I'm going to have to refuse the first offer. Thanks for the info.
I don't know about anyone else, but the first time I gave them my cc number, Discover called me the next day and it had been hacked. Won't do that again, even though it's $2 for a paper bill.
Love my satellite radio, hate the subscription games. I've cancelled until they offer a reasonable rate that renews at that same rate.
