People who announce they found a hidden IRK aren’t breaking any sort of site rule, and aren’t breaking any sort of “fairness rule”. People have been announcing these specialty IRKs as long as they’ve existed.
Some people don’t like the announcements. Many other people do.
I understand why some people don’t like the “look where I found one” practice, but it’s not an inherently bad or anti-social practice.
IRK access isn’t set up to be “fair” and TPTB at Meh appear to want the chaos and resentment that generate in the community each time an IRK is on offer.
As for actually getting an IRK, it’s kinda a crapshoot for everyone or almost everyone
(I have no idea how the people who have constant success manage that)
Personally:
Mostly I don’t get them.
Sometimes I manage to skip the captcha and get lucky on timing.
Sometimes I get the captcha and still get one, tho that’s incredibly rare: been a number of years in fact, I think.
Mostly, with or without the captcha, I miss out.
Tho it’s fun to “score one”, the contents of these boxes have lately been pretty junky for so many of these. Perhaps for most or almost all.
If you land one, you’re often or usually buying junk. Yeah, it’s fun to “score” or “win”, but is it really so important as to take the failure that seriously?
Are you really that upset you didn’t “win” the purchasing of mostly “random garbage”?
Part of the fun is in getting one, for those who do; since they are scarce.
Another part of the fun is remembering that they aren’t usually worth anything, and don’t really matter. Or at least they shouldn’t matter much, aside from a momentary sting of “failure-to-purchase”.
I hope we don’t become a site of whiners, and or a site of attempted enforcers of unnecessary, personally-preferred-rules.
I hope most of us just aren’t that obsessed.
There are things that really matter; such as:
Reasonable access to independence of thought and action, personal safety, access to healthcare, education, housing, and sanity. Healthy families. Healthy personal relationships Hope for the future. Decent possibilities.
Etc.
Not an exhaustive list, obviously.
There will be disagreements re the serious stuff. Obviously.
And then there are IRKs. Inherently, difficult to obtain, inherently usually worthless except for bragging rights, inherently unfair-of-access-by-design.
I might like it if Meh chose to make the playing field of attempting to get one a tiny bit more fair, but I suspect they won’t.
And I also might not like it. There is a bit of magical emotional twisting in the “unfairness”. At least there might be, for some of us.
I suspect that that TPTB at meh don’t want to alter the imbalances That they enjoy all the moaning, etc. They they set it up this way deliberately.

Can we NOT buy into the idea that it seriously matters whether we get one or not?
Can we NOT buy into this as some sort of topic or event where we must all be PC in our thinking and conduct, according to someone or some group?
We got one, or we didn’t. We exult for a moment, or we whine to a little.
And then, I hope, we go on with real life.
How about we enjoy our rare successes, if we happen to have them;
and enjoy our many and constant failures;
and take exactly none of this too seriously?
