Shop through http://smile.amazon.com and they will donate to a charity of your choice
6I just went to amazon to look at the review of something and a pop up window put in motion if you buy something on amazon via http://smile.amazon.com it will donate to a charity of your choice. They have a few they list but then you can put in your own. If you are doing that but have no particular charity you want to donate to please choose the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 1311 Mamaroneck Avenue, Suite 310, White Plains, NY 10605 as your charity. I have personally benefited from them and their copay program. Due to a reduction in donations they have had to cut in half what they offer to help people over the last couple of years.

The human fund isn't an option though.
@capguncowboy Well yes that is true. People can create "human funds" on other sites though. I have a "human fund" elsewhere http://www.gofundme.com/78d3nc and sure would appreciate it if people would post that on their facebook, twitter, etc.
I've been using Smile for a while now. It's nice because if I forget and go to the regular Amazon site they pop up a reminder with a link to switch to the smile page instead.
Love Amazon Smile.
If you use Chrome, install Smile Always which will route all of your Amazon links to Amazon Smile:

I have been using Amazon Smile on Chrome for Wounded Warrior. It is something they (Amazon and the charities) should advertise more.
@PyxienTX I would agree. I didn't even know about it until that pop up window appeared. Unfortunately for the charity I designated I am not buying things right now… I told that charity about it so they could advertise it.
Also, you can often support smaller charities, too. So, it doesn't hurt to do a search and see if a local/small one that you like is listed. My purchases support Rowdy to the Rescue and Gremlin. They do really great work rescuing senior and hard to place dogs. Many of the dogs they've rescued recently have needed large amounts of medical care.
My donations go to The Painted Turtle, which is a free camp for children with chronic illnesses. My son was lucky enough to benefit from their services, and now they just benefited from me spending way too much on him for Christmas.
I've been doing smile.amazon Wounded Warrior since my best friend, after three tours, many years of service, was injured on his tenth or so combat jump. His story is a lot like others, screwed by the VA, not much to make it by as "killing machine" isn't really good on a resume and his transition to civilian life has been rough. Though he is making it, he won't talk about a lot of things. Yet when he does I am sure to listen and say nothing. I've seen death, I've fought to save lives, but it was in a firetruck or ambulance, not thousands of miles away from family and friends, so I am there just to be there for him. He's a good person and I really do hope he can bounce back. He just had to have his parents (at his age it's sad) help him get another surgery to his leg that was completely shattered on the jump, because the VA lost his original medical records and the original surgical records. So yeah if people have a chance to purchase items through the Amazon Smile project/program go for it. You never know who could be helped.
We are lucky to be able to support a local charity with the smile program. Warren Washington County Homeless Youth Coalition Inc. They help teens on the street finish school, get jobs, and housing; breaking the cycle of homelessness and abuse for young people.
Pick your smile and definitely support it, you could be changing a life by setting a bookmark.
Hey @snapster how about setting up something similar through meh (well once meh is solvent enough that is to think about donating to charity that is)?
Mine goes to a local children's hospital. My grandson was delivered by emergency c-section 8 weeks early and the care he received there was just fantastic.
While not quite the same, you can pick a list of charities on eBay as well, and when you make a purchase you'll be given the option to donate as you're checking out. Great way to guilt yourself into being compassionate after sniping the shit out of someone's collectible mug.
@brhfl The ebay model is the same as Target and the grocery store always asking me "Would you like to make a donation to __?" - with Amazon, it doesn't cost the customer anything extra. It's 0.005% of whatever you're buying anyway.
@Collin1000 True, I did say it's not quite the same, and explained how. Now, in the eBay model vs. the grocery store model, it's charities you choose. Also, something about being able to take your time on the internet and not being caught off-guard by an actual human makes it feel far, far lower pressure (to me). I feel like I'm being badgered in the grocery store, vs. reminded on eBay. I do prefer the Smile approach, just thought this was worth pointing out.
@Collin1000 target is a percentage of your purchase. It doesn't cost you any extra… at least if it is to schools...
If you don't have a favorite charity, The Trevor Project is a great organization to contribute to through Smile. I am a volunteer counselor with them, and they are an incredible organization which saves young lives every day.
