Shirt.woot petition spotted - assume @narfcake?
6Found and signed a petition to shirt.woot to change back to AA blanks - assume from @narfcake but hadn't seen him post here.
There's certainly nuances to the discussion. I assume at least someone likes their current blanks (maybe at least on the woman sizing side). Also they do cost more so I doubt the answer would be without cost. Nonetheless it's best to make the simple ask for what it used to be. I guess the likelihood is that this does nothing, but I think it's good to have folks organized for whomever created this to message in the future.
Or maybe you just don't give a crap about shirts. Are artsy/humorous graphic tees moving into old fashioned territory?

@snapster that was setup by @no1 back here:
https://meh.com/forum/topics/aa-long-sleeves-at-shirt-woot#55410075a892c8bc08072718
@Ignorant oops thanks! sorry @no1. I saw some of that earlier thread but missed the petition until someone sent me a link today. I shared it. I guess at least it continues to look relevant even if the numbers are low.
I truly hope those now running the show there see that @snapster signed it. That just tickles me the right way.
Petition not needed, it's already being talked about.
I'm not sure why they don't just offer the option to pay more for AA. Vote with your wallet, people. Show them you're willing to pay.
@Collin1000 but we are voting with our wallets when we refuse to buy any more shirts printed on mutant blanks, regardless of artwork
American Apparel's sizes are pretty shit.
@tombrend That's a big industry-wide problem though, various manufacturers make clothes with incorrect measurements on the theory that people are embarassed to buy their true size. Sometimes it's several inches off. Not a huge issue in stores but it's a big problem online where things can't be tried on.
@tombrend And probably 30% of the AA shirts I've gotten have had what was explained to me as industrial ironing issues with the cuffs. (end if sleeves and at waist) There like extra fabric that is permanently wrinkled from being ironed flat that way. Ugly.
@Starblind AA XL/XXL/XXXL don't grow horizontally by very much- they just get longer. Also, their M/L are different from any other T-shirt manufacturer.
@medz ... and the Anvil shirts are much worse than that when it comes to hems, as along with that issue, the necklines roll, stretch, and lose their shape.
@tombrend Every manufacturer is different. EVERY.
@medz I've noticed that with the cuffs. It's weird.
But AA shirts were terrible. I don't have any left that survived. Which I guess isn't that terrible as a thing since eventually there was only three artist who could win anyway.
@DrunkCat And yet, they've held up very well here. Yes, I've retired one of my purple Fresh Cake shirts from the original run, but it wasn't because the fabric wore out. That's in comparison to two Nocturnowl shirts going threadbare in less time. Or any of the current mutant blanks getting holes at the seams after a few washes (or less)
@narfcake My F5 Refresh Yourself shirt is still going strong. I haven't bought a shirt in years but the ones I bought when they switched to "all american because lolchina sucks cause hipsters say so" are all but worn out (or shrunk) to the point of trash. If they switched out of those recently and thats what y'all are complaining about then ignore me.
@DrunkCat It sounds like you have the brands mixed up. F5 Refreshes You came out in 2008 - American Apparel. In fact, prior to February 2012, all shirt.woot shirts were made by American Apparel, regardless of whether it had the woot tag or not.
Afterwards, the majority are Anvil, both of the neckstretch variety and the mutants nowadays.
@narfcake So anvil was the "Guilt Free" brand they switch to and justified a price hike with?
@DrunkCat Yes. There was nothing selling them as "guilt free", though.
@narfcake I remember there being a lot of hubub because Anvil was "all american" and didn't use any stinky china in its production. This, as the proponents claimed, was to increase quality and decrease guilt.
@DrunkCat Yeah, you have that backwards.
@narfcake Petition signed, thanks for your patience. I still don't agree with the calicifed clique that formed on shirt.woot but Anvil was seriously one of the worst decisions woot made. #92
@DrunkCat Clique ... the wooters or artists?
If Wooters, the ones who keep harping on the same thing over and over are doing not as an annoyance but because they care. Like it is here at meh, Woot was built for open discussions. How many ecommerce sites allow folks to regularly say how much the product sucks?
If you're talking about the artists, I'm well aware that there are groups that are very supportive of each others work, but these are the very same artists who have shared their tips to other artists too in improving their work. Yes, the derbies are still tough, but last month, a first time entrant got her first print with a first place win.
As for the changeover, the decision was done because of the bean counters. They didn't care of the quality, the backlash, the drop in participation and sales volume, or the #1 artist setting up a new shirt site ... but cheaper blanks = moar money, right?!
I signed as lucky #79, but I wanted to share this great comment (not by me, but awesome anyway): "I want my family to be embarrassed by the shirt for its message, not for its fit and fabric."
@Starblind hmm I wonder whose fault it is that they switched shirts... ugh. typical goat maneuver.
@Starblind thanks :). That's me.
@snapster As mentioned earlier, the petition was created by @no1 after you challenged me ... after I was harping constantly on when you'll start selling more AA shirts. :) I use a screen cap in my .sig at woot.
I've also posted your tweet a few times before from way back when you asked if they were still using the wideneck blanks.
@lichme And months and months later, they're still using mutant blanks. I'll believe when I see it happen.
I don't think I've ever seen that before on a change.org petition heh..
What defines the perameters for success? Does the petitioner just verify it's succeeded?
@Chops I mean, they've been testing this on and off for months now. I'm not sure 94 signers swayed them so much as those who voted with their dollars during AA-available days.
@Chops @mikey I would assume that @no1 marked it as such when Woot started offering the option of buying both. I doubt s/he thinks the change was because of the petition, that's just the way Change.org labels it when you tell them you got what you wanted.
