I had a vornado fan and it was quite good but my tip about bladed fans is that dust will collect/blow directly in your face over time. The best desk fans are bladeless.
Still a good fan though.
@thechilipepper0 Easier said than done. Besides, the issue is that if dust is in the air at any point, a bladed fan will draw that dust and blow it into your face. Fans with dust filters exist but it’s not something you see for a desk fan.
@phendrick maybe these ARE career politicians… would be a useful thing to do with them, tho I’m not sure I’d want a career politician on my desk, even if somehow permanently locked into fan form
I LOVE MY Vornados… I have 3. Mine at bedside has gotten a little louder…A good cleaning would probably help, but a 12" new one is headed my way… Can’t say enough about Vornado. Not sure why Sharper image Branding… Oh Well. Not Meh!
For those who may be wondering, I will note that these use a wall-wart power supply that is chunky enough that it may interfere with an adjacent outlet, as such often do.
Why is the power cable intentionally cropped out of all the pictures? I had to click around for a couple of minutes before I actually downloaded the PDF instructions to find out whether it was USB powered, battery powered or AC powered. And of course I couldn’t see the plug in the instructions come to think of it so I’m not 100% sure that’s not just a box with some AA batteries in it connected to a wire, although I’m not sure why you would do that.

@troy@zafner Plus, you list ‘24 volts’ in the specs, which would require a transformer everywhere in the world except for Lower Slobbovia which only provides around 17 volts at the outlet (on a good day).
@ddbelyea@rpstrong@troy@zafner If Duracell can get away with selling a flashlight that uses a dozen AA batteries (multiplying the chance of a dead cell destroying the whole thing while the device still seems functional), somebody is gonna go for it on 16 or 24 or however many it was for the AA-powered Merc.
@dred@rpstrong Dysan used to make floppy discs and other magnetic media. And good quality ones. Cheaper brands were Memorex which we called Memory-wrecks because you’d often lose data on bad floppy discs.

What a conundrum! Vornado fans are great but Sharper Image stuff is usually carp.

Looked at some reviews. The front grill can be removed and cleaned easily. Some fans you can’t do that. At the price its at it’s worth a shot.

I’ve already got 2 of the 10” en route from Morningsave at same price. But the remote on the 12” has me in for one.

Can also get 24 V with 16 AA batteries. I wouldn’t put it past meh or sharper image to sell a fan that takes 16 AA batteries.
