Scavenger hunt:: today's hunt is delayed.
4Sorry folks I'm going to be delaying today's hunt by a few hours... I had to work early. I started to work on it but fell asleep... and my MEH alarm woke me to look at knives, then go to bed. Expect something later, and a bonus for patience. It will be in this thread, so subscribe or watch for it to pop back up! In the mean time, anyone who gives me a new solution to this problem will earn 6 points.
Using only the digit “6” (but no more than thirty of them) come up with a standard math equation using only basic operators (add, subtract, multiply, divide) where the answer is 1000.

D'oh! Can an admin @jont @moose @Mehcus maybe? Add a Horizontal Rule after "will earn 6 points." to separate out the question from the update.
@sohmageek I assume each person can only submit one. Is that correct?
@christinewas nah you can keep trying. Only 6 points to correct ones that follow the rules. :)
@sohmageek done
((6+6+6+6)/6 + 6) x ((6+6+6+6)/6 + 6) x ((6+6+6+6)/6 + 6) = 1000
I hope that is what you were looking for. I'm sure there are more elegant ways, but that was the first one I found. And I really need to go to sleep.
@christinewas figures you would beat me to it lol
@stardate820926 I think I might have found the answer that uses the fewest sixes (8 of them... there might be an even shorter one), but... I don't want to answer again if we aren't allowed. And we probanly shouldn't be allowed or someone could keep going for a while. But I emailed it to myself... For some reason. (Sleep deprivation?)
(6666/6) + (66/6) + (66/6) + (66/6) - (66*6) - (66*6) - (66*6) - (66*6) = 1000
ack I screwed mine up, all of the 66*6 should actually be 6*6...stupid tiny phone screen
(6666/6) + (66/6) + (66/6) + (66/6) - (6*6) - (6*6) - (6*6) - (6*6) = 1000
@stardate820926 and these parentheses don't change the order of operations. They only make the equation clearer. So... following normal math rules, this should count. (Just making sure he doesn't see the parentheses and keep moving.)
@christinewas I did. but now that you have clarified... You'll get 3 points for helping me out. :) @stardate820926 good job... but I almost passed you by with the ()
@sohmageek thanks
considering I wasn't even out of bed yet, I'm surprised I came up with something that made sense (even if I did mistype it the first time)
6666/6-666/6=1000
@kadagan If all entries that came in before the "no parentheses" are invalidated, then I won ;) Otherwise @christinewas wins! Both are great, go Team @Moose!!
(although @stardate820926's works the same without parentheses, their correct answer was posted after mine)
@kadagan here's another: 666+666/6+666/6+666/6+6/6=1000
Since @sohmageek said we can submit more.. Lol
666+66+66+66+66+66+(6+6+6+6)/6=1000
using only basic operators +, -, *, / no parenthesis. :)
@sohmageek so how does order of operations factor in? For example, the one I just submitted, 6666-666/6 would actually be 6666-111 if you followed the order of operations rule. But... If you do the operations in order (regardless of... math... laws), 6666-666= 6000 and 6000/6 = 1000
@christinewas I'd like to know this answer as well. @sohmageek
@sohmageek um that smiley face has a closing parenthesis RULE BREAKER
6666-666 / 6 = 1000
@christinewas division goes first, so that's 6555
@sammydog01 but the rules are unclear. (As I mentioned above.) So... If it's what you put in a calculator (hitting = each time) it is 1000.
@sammydog01 I was gonna write that, then I read @christinewas's comment to @sohmageek above and saw it was using a sort of FIFO stack order of operations.. haha
@christinewas Math has rules, and I'm pretty sure division and multiplication first, then addition and subtraction. But then I'm old and it may have changed.
@sammydog01 I know. (I even have a math degree.) But in a question like this that doesn't allow parentheses, order of opperations isn't always followed. Which is why I asked about that.
@christinewas Math degree- cool! I wonder if @sohmageek is regretting this already?
@sammydog01 haha... Probably!
@sammydog01 PEMDAS
@sohmageek yea always PEMDAS. I have never seen it not be followed and I teach it for a living. (Well I guess I've seen it not followed and people get the wrong answer, kids I tell ya!)
@sammydog01 yes.. There is a reason I shut down any future points on this thread! :)
6666/6-666/6
@sammydog01 @kadagan submitted this already.
@sammydog01 though I'd be thrilled if our team could use it twice.
@christinewas oops- nice job @kadagan (if that's the answer he was looking for).
Using the FIFO method, 66666-666/66=1000
666 + 66 + 66 + 66 + 66 + 66 + 6/6 + 6/6 + 6/6 + 6/6 = 1000
Now I should have one that works for each possible interpretation of the rules!
@christinewas And only 21 sixes. Yay!
666/.666=1000
@djslack Nice :) (assuming the missing zero is acceptable) Only six sixes!
@djslack I like this one the best.
@sammydog01 Me too Good Job @DJslack Extra 6 Points for creativity!
666 + 666 − 666 ÷ 6 − 666 ÷ 6 − 66 ÷ 6 − 66 ÷ 6 − 66 ÷ 6 − 66 ÷ 6 − 66
In case the symbols got funky, that's:
666 + 666− 666/6 − 666/6 − 66/6 − 66/6 − 66/6 − 66/6 − 66
And now I officially must quit because my neurologist will already be pissed that @sohmageek made me not sleep by posting this. :) Trouble-making goat.
@Lotsofgoats +1
@Lotsofgoats I like when you "divide" the 6's.. But I'm not sure that "rotate" was one of the standard operators ;).. Maybe if you "divide" the sides off a +? haha
@kadagan true true, or I could have had a crooked 1 from one of the 6's stems
@Lotsofgoats Is this that "Common Core" stuff i keep hearing about?
@Lotsofgoats 1/2 credit. + 1 point or making me laugh...
@Willijs3 +10 points for that comment. :)
Because lots of answer was already posted before I saw this I did 8s, because, why not?
8(8*8+8*8)-8-8-8 = 1000
(Fun note, after I did this I noticed that I used the #8 eight times)
Fine, since people keep posting answers, here's mine:
(666-66)/.6
And did the same thing, used the #6 six times. Apparently this rule can be used for any number 1-9 to equal 1000
(In case someone else comes up with this after me. I posted this at 10:29am MST)
@Bogie that one doesn't work with the "no parentheses" rule that @sohmageek posted in some comment after the fact.. haha
@kadagan Ah, it was minimized and didn't see that rule. No amendments to rules! A good question was asked, if we are following rules of operations or not if we're doing "Basic" or "simple" math. IE. if you punch that into a "basic" calculator it will =1000. If you put it into a smart calculator, it will = 556
Math is hard
6666 ÷66 x6 +666 -66 -66 -66 -66 -6/6 -6/6 -6 =1000
@Moose Stole what I was going to do, or at least similar, as my mind doesn't do math.
@Moose 6 more points for Team @Moose!
@Moose 1/2 credit... plus 1 for creativity...
Numbers
There are 2 types of people in the world:
1. Those who can do stuff with numbers,
2. And me.
@Teripie I'm also in the second group.
@Teripie Same.
@lisaviolet Hooray! Now there's everyone else in the world versus just you and me!
I bet infants are better at math than me.
@Teripie @thumpechick @lisaviolet I suck at math too, so we now have our own little club!
6666 / 666 + 66 + 666 +666 / 6666 x 6666 / 666 66 6 6 /6 6/6 /6 /6 /6 +6 6=6 =6 6=6 ==6=6 ** 6 6 6 6 6 = 1000
@JonT that's more than 30 6's.
@hollboll yes, that's the only part of it that is incorrect…
Math you say, I guess I better be able to do this seeing as its my job...
@zdunklee oh good! The rest of team @JonT seems to be... not so great at this.
6*6*6*6 - 6*6*6 - 66 - 6 - 6 - 6/6 - 6/6
@Thumperchick See easy stuffs. I better make sure it wasn't used already I guess.
To simplify it for our goat:
1296 - 216 - 66 - 6 - 6 - 1 - 1 = 1000
@zdunklee you didn't have to do that - just copy/paste into google. That's how I math.
@Thumperchick I did that all in my head in like 30 seconds.
Here are 1000 sixes, rules and such don't apply to me:

@MEHcus well done, team leader. I like it!
@MEHcus Yeah! Go Team @MEHcus!
@MEHcus Our team is an autocracy and we have rule invulnerability!
@MEHcus B- would not buy again
@MEHcus -2 points. for purposefully ignoring rules. :)
If @JonT gets to use extra 6s so do I
6power6 - 6x6x6x6x6 - 6x6x6x6x6 - 6x6x6x6x6 - 6x6x6x6 - 6x6x6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 - 6/.6 = 1000 (maybe)
@sammydog01 google seems to think that one is 21736.. haha
@kadagan Fortunately I never built bridges for a living.
@kadagan OK, try this one
6power6 - 6x6x6x6x6/.6 - 6x6x6x6x6/.6 - 6x6x6x6x6/.6 - 6x6x6x6/.6 - 6x6x6x6/.6 - 6x6x6/.6 +6x6 +6 +6 +6 +6/.6 = 1000 (probably not). I lived for partial credit.
6 = 1000
@darksaber99999 - I think this follows the rules.
@darksaber99999 Brilliant! I'm pretty sure that the instructions never stated that the equation has to be correct!
666,666/666 − 6/6
6666666666/6666666 (rounded to 3 decimal places)
66666666666666666666/66666666666666666
6*6*6*6 - 6*6*6 - 6*6 - 6*6 - 6 - 6/6 - 6/6 = 1000
Yet another slight variation: 66666/66 - 666/66
A six-pack of beer = 600 calories. Therefore, 1.666 6-packs = 1000 (calories).
Oh yeah, here it is without parenthesis:
A six-pack of beer = 600 calories. Therefore, 1.666 6-packs = 1000 calories
6 pictures = 6000 words / 6 = 1 picture = 1000 (words)
(yes I used the old Math.random() because the rules said math!)
@Lotsofgoats I love the idea, but @sohmageek said no parenthesis.. haha
60 = 1000
Math is The Devil.
That is all.
@LaVikinga - Especially all of these sixes.
OK... I'm closing the points on this... My head it spinning too much from trying to verify that you're the only one to get the same way to get the answer. Congratulations to everyone that played by the rules... @moose I'm looking at you! The first time someone has lost points... And it's a TEAM CAPTAIN... @JonT @hollboll @MEHcus thank you :)
@sohmageek @mehcus is the one who lost points! (Moose gained four.) I hope you didn't take his points away from Team Moose!
@sohmageek I protest your decision. We need to take this to the court that exonerated that Brady guy.
@christinewas +2 points I'm checking to see if you guys are paying attention :) For that I blame myself. :) Points update is coming soon!!!!
This one Points wise is
6 points EACH
