Today’s trivia note; When a cat holds her tongue like that and inhales, she is directing the airflow over some receptors that are sensitive to pheromones.
One of the tigers was doing the same thing, but it can move a lot more air. It curled up its lip and was inhaling through its teeth to get the optimal airflow.
Sensing pheromones would count as a sixth sense, if we only knew about six senses. There are dozens of senses, but it gets hard to define where one sense ends and another begins.
When you sense temperatures, do you count that as a separate sense, or part of the sense of touch?
You don’t have oxygen sensors, but you can sense the pH of your blood. When carbon dioxide builds up in your blood, it makes it acidic. When that happens, you feel like you need fresh air.
I one was holding a baby tiger that fell asleep in my lap. The guy who owned it told me just to continue holding it for kids to pet while it slept (pretty cool actually). It was about the size of a 15 or so pound pet cat but with a head that was much bigger. Anway so I go home and my cats go nuts over the smell and wouldn’t leave me alone so I finally take off my clothes and put them on the floor. For THREE SOLID HOURS my cats were going nuts over the odor of the baby tiger. Smelling it, rolling in it, rubbing their odor all over it, doing that open mouth sniffing business… Made me wonder what was going on in their little brains.
My cats would probably try to whap them on the nose.
Henry, did you invite our cousin for lunch?
The cat looks like Lil Bub.

@Kidsandliz oh my gosh that would be crazy! I bet your cats were wondering just what kind of kitty you were petting!
