I bought two of these last time. Not excellent. The angle of the camera is not conducive to use on the review mirror. Also the glass mirror has a blue tint to it. I initially thought the blue tint was some kind of film that you could peel off, but it’s not. The picture quality in the day is OK, but keep in mind it is 720p, so definitely not high resolution. Picture quality at night it’s unusable. Forget about identifying license plate numbers. I ended up ordering an AUKEY 1080p from Amazon, at twice the price, and it’s more than twice the camera.
Got two of these the last time they were up for sale. Absolute Rubbish. The mirror is tinted blue so it is hard to see your rear view if you are wearing sunglasses and at night impossible to us unless you turn on the screen saver…save your cash.
The mirror is pretty bad, the camera doesn’t quite aim right, the “light” mode is litterally just some led emitters that light up around an inch around the dashcam.
That said, the one I have been testing is still working…
Works quite well for the price. A bit tricky to get setup with USB power etc, but once you turn the screen saver on and get used to the blue tint you barely notice it.
Hoping I don’t need to use the recordings, but it’s nice to know it’s available if necessary.
Eventually you’d probably want to upgrade to a higher quality camera, but for $10 it’s worth it.
OK maybe I should block meh.com from loading up on Friday nights if my location is an arcade that sells booze. But since I didn’t this is just the right thing to remind me when I can get ahead in traffic. Records video to let you know when you could have squeeze in there. (You know with enough room not to feel like a jerk when you get in front of them.)
I’m not saying your cutting someone off, I’m just saying you get a better understanding of the inches in front of you.

I got one of these the last time. It seems to be just fine to me. I suppose if your rear window is tinted, the mirror might be too dark, but if your windows aren’t tinted yet like mine, it’s almost perfect for night driving. The screen can be a little distracting at night, but during the day you don’t hardly notice it. Getting a perfect camera position may not work well on all cars, but it seems fine (just barely) on my car. I put a 32Gig microSD in it, and it seems to record about 10 minutes per Gig at 720p.
Can’t seem to get the videos to play on a Chromebook, though.
@PantHeist Imma try disassembling one and see if the internal structure will allow me to print a new housing on the 3D printer. The video quality will still suck, but at least the format will be more usable.
Yeah-I’d be happy to pay $10 for this if it actually worked. I paid $30 for mine on Morningsave and it doesn’t. Gave it as a Christmas gift and they got it out this weekend, doesn’t work-I contacted MS. They pretty much said suck it.
old guy here. Phenomenal! Just technology is amazing. So, this records on to SD cards? And how much time is on an sd card? Like 32 gb. Everyone else seems to know this except me. If it wasn’t for the cig lighter jack, I could use this to film outside my door, for ups thieves and such?
@wew micro sd, 32 GB max, around 1 GB use per 10 minutes of highest res recording… it loops around so once it’s full it just records over the oldest recording.
it does have a “motion detection” mode but would need to be plugged in (the battery is just there for power loss during wrecks/power down)… any usb 120V power adapter with a mini b cable should work… it comes with a 12v cigarette adapter for in car use.
the quality is ok… it’s not so great in the dark, it doesn’t have IR for night vision just a couple crappy white light led emitters.
@wew Hey! Hi! You’re new here, hmm? Welcome! Stick around; a lot of the folks here regularly are seriously good at all sorts of things. If you have a few minutes, drop over to the actual forums and hang out a bit. You can get to the current conversations by going back to the on-sale screen and looking over toward the upper right. You’ll see a list of the open topics.
One last thing – more or less no one counts as “old” here, unless that’s going to work for you. (I’m 69, which I think is at least in the upper bracket, and a lot of regulars are young enough to be my grand-kids, and a few of them even great-grands, as hard as that is to admit.) Someone once told my kid sister that you’re not really old until your kids start on Medicare. Which means I have another 18 years.
The is so cheaply made. It interferes with the RF signals of my key fob and Tire Pressure Monitor System. I found out it was the dashcam causing all the trouble with my car.
@johnanthony Oh really?..I’ve been having key fob issues even after replacing the battery. I don’t think this is the case because the camera is usually off and my wife’s fob seems to be more reliable.

PS: I paid $14 each last time. Even @ $10 I would not order another one.
Watching u meh-- picture that
Déjà view.
“Purportedly”. Nice!
I just can’t see myself buying this.
is a dash camera an option offered on any current cars?
@huja yes
@thismyusername Then all is right in the world. Carry on.
@huja A new car is a tad more expensive, is it not?
@Kerig3 But then you get the bonus of that new car smell…
This thing was designed ass forwards…
Not these stupid things again.
Ugh.

I don’t even understand how the idea for its design made it past 3 seconds’ worth of consideration.

Can we say Fuko bag filler soon?? LOL

Trigger pulled.

@Blahbbs try using VLC to view them…
https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-chromeos.html
Not even for free…
@Stallion -couldn’t agree more.
This would cover my headlight sensor and rain sensor both built into my rear view mirror. That would be a disaster.
It would also cover my garage door buttons.
Are these for making taxi porn?
Oh, hey, Reaper Minis on the model number callout. Keen.
Wonder if there is any way to hook this up on the dash without putting it over existing mirror? For $10 it may be worth a try.
@jmbunkin… it is not. Throw your $10 into a designer beer. Much more satisfying.
@jmbunkin Buy a suction cup mounted ‘spare’ rear view mirror (from under $3 atAmazon) and put it wherever.
@jmbunkin I was thinking about bashing off the mirror and doing that. Probably not guna bother after reading the other comments.
@PantHeist Imma try disassembling one and see if the internal structure will allow me to print a new housing on the 3D printer. The video quality will still suck, but at least the format will be more usable.
@ruouttaurmind Let us know how it goes!
@PantHeist Shockingly simple to disassemble. Two pieces of vinyl adhesive tape, four screws, and the mirror/glass assembly fell off in my hand.
The camera and LCD display use ribbon cable connections, so no problem there.
Here’s what’s inside:
The assembly
The LCD display
The only challenge is the size of the circuit board
@ruouttaurmind neat
I may have to reflect on this for a day before buying.
The power cord dangles down from the mirror. Boo

@magic_cave I had no idea----very illuminatti!
Any cellphone made in the last decade would work better than this.
Did it because I’m having to justify VMP to myself. Maybe a hysterical-sneaky-sack will be the final nail…
/giphy hysterical-sneaky-sack
@elliedan Not the kind of giphy I’d hoped for with ‘hysterical-sneaky-sack’.
Mine is quite blurry. Is there a way to fix that?

How much was meh swelling this for?
@thekenya
$10.
This thing is garbage. Terrible picture quality, jerky playback and too narrow an angle.
I harvested the power supply and threw away the rest.
