@troy@werehatrack You could put “essential oils” of your choice onto the diffuser pad. But it’s not essential to do that, meaning that the essential is actually optional.
@pmarin@troy@werehatrack The problem is that most essential oils have things in them that are not good for you, including “organic” ones. I read a while ago, so don’t remember all the details, that over 100 were tested and only something like 4 or 6 or something of them were “ok”. The problem is that essential oils aren’t regulated. As a result I’d suggest don’t use that option with this.
@Kidsandliz@pmarin@troy It’s important that it is just an option, and not a baked-in there-shall-be-scent malfeature. I’ve had to scrap things in the past whose “fresh scent” was overpowering. Cascade made a dishwasher-interior-cleaning atrocity whose stench was so overpowering that it took eight more cycles with multiple chemistries to remove it. The first time I opened the door after using it, I had to run outside because the perfume stung my eyes and sinuses that badly. I ran back in, turned on the range vent fan, and let that run for half an hour before I went back in again to try to deal with it. If I see “diffuser” in the description, that’s a big red flag for me unless I know that there’s no stench preinstalled.
@AaronLeeJohnson I was wondering the same thing. Probably so. Those are mediocre earbuds despite all the praise from paid youtube testimonials. (Coming soon to Meh at a huge discount?)
As to this air purifier, reading the reviews on the 'zon suggests that it works well enough for small spaces, but good luck finding replacement filters for it. Some other brands might be compatible as they probably all come from the same factory in China anyway.
Biggest concern is how fragile it apparently is. Many people say it self destructed after dropping it. Seems something intended to sit in your car or be stuffed into a bag for travel out to be a bit more durable.
Where’s the usual discussion of availability of spare filters? They look expensive. Or is it a discontinued product where you can’t even get replacements?
Can’t figure out what the metal grid is for on outer layer of filter. What’s it going to keep out? fingers? flies?
I was wondering if in fact it’s electrified at high voltage which is used in some home air cleaners like a Honeywell unit I have. The charge causes particles to then cling to grounded parts of the filter after that. But this isn’t mentioned and it seems unlikely for a small unit like this.
@pmarin All I’m seeing on the filter element is just pleats, the housing of the unit has drilled perforations in it to let the air in. I dare say that the metal shell is there because otherwise this thing would tend to get smooshed in a cup holder.
Not even remotely worth trying to filter the air in this dump apartment. My heat and A/C is one of those motel A/C heaters with a giant hole to the outside that is always “open”.
@sum1 I have yet to encounter a cup holder deep enough to block enough of the intake to severely restrict this one’s intake, but I haven’t seen them all. YMMV.

You lost me at “and fragrance diffuser”. If I’m filtering the air, I want zero odor as the desired target.
@werehatrack fragrance is optional. Just an additional feature!

Would this fit in a certain hole that might be the source of the odors?
@pchops Well, I know it can’t filter your CAR’S exhaust…
@pchops I would suppose it would depend on just how motivated you are…

I didn’t know Ray J ventured into air purifiers
Raycon? Like the headphones youtubers shill?

@pmarin Genuine, lada lada filters are $10 on amazon.
My wife has gotten use to me. I don’t want anything to jeopardize that.

Um…what?
If I were an Uber or Lyft driver, I’d definitely buy one and a few more as backups.
This also probably explains why I would never be an Uber or Lyft driver.

So, what do you do for spare filters? I see that you get an extra but that only gets you to 1 year. Then what? Amazon does not show any replacements.
“This product does not meet California air cleaner regulation requirements, and cannot be shipped to California” in red at the Amazon website. Hmmm…
Ain’t buying Ray J’s crap, y’all…
Here’s a replaceable filter on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09SNXWWRC/ref=vp_d_cpf-substitute-widget_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=1b59e7f0-e58c-4cf4-9322-aea719e34a8a&pf_rd_r=R63DZ2FMBWJTCPPEHF37&pd_rd_wg=kWjAe&pd_rd_i=B09SNXWWRC&pd_rd_w=hANjZ&content-id=amzn1.sym.1b59e7f0-e58c-4cf4-9322-aea719e34a8a&pd_rd_r=38f842ad-51b2-4861-93e8-86f42ec87e60&psc=1
@Felyne these won’t work (center diameter is too small), but these might: https://a.co/d/0cUZ1eOB
@troy Thank you, Troy!
Yes! Cleans your air AND diffuses pollutants back into it. My karma is complete…
You know it’s a must buy quality product when the write-up references a “Caddilac”
Making the air intake sit INSIDE the cupholder renders this almost completely useless
@sum1 I have yet to encounter a cup holder deep enough to block enough of the intake to severely restrict this one’s intake, but I haven’t seen them all. YMMV.
