I have no boat. I have friends who have made the mistake of buying a boat. I have chosen to learn from their errors. If i lived where it might be useful, I could be convinced to acquire a canoe.
@werehatrack I have an inflatable stand up paddle board. It’s surprisingly rigid and stable. My wife loves it. It’s not light weight, but it is transportable inside a vehicle. Full transparency, I did buy an electric pump instead of using the bike pump it came with 30,000 times to fill it up. No sense on being completely exhausted before you even hit the water.
We take it to the shore and it’s quite relaxing (once you find your balance) and we have a few small lakes nearby that are fun to paddle around on a calm day
@capnjb@user27549550
Definitely recommend the power inflator! Much better process than the ‘bike’ pump. We have two inflatable SUPs and an inflatable kayak. Those pumps are lifesavers.
I found your can make them even more portable and inflate at the shore by using a jump starter battery pack with a cigarette lighter style plug. This frees you from having to inflate in the parking lot next to the car then tote the board to the water’s edge… Assuming you didn’t buy the high dollar inflator with a built-in battery.
@narfcake wow I Have several Boats, if Benchy counts, in a couple different sizes & colors! But the Cali Cat, well you might be Catting around way too much!
@narfcake Up one post from this, I posted the link to the YouTube video of a guy who printed a giant Benchy and used it as an actual boat. 10 feet long!
A boat is a hole in the water that you shovel money into.
I speak from experience. Living in Florida with a second home in the keys, it seemed like a great idea. (They were all cheap 50 years ago.) It wasn’t. Sold the boat, and both homes and moved out of that hurricane infested state.
@unksol The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!
Sixty years old next month, and still holds up surprisingly well. All of the “Russians”, including Alan Arkin, actually speak Russian. (And they get in a few comments that would have been banned if they were in English.) And after 60 years, Peter is still an obnoxious brat.
I’m part of an adaptative sailing group. We sail on
Lake Michigan;June till the 2nd week of September. So I guess , I sorta have a boat?! At least the use of one.
@jkawaguchi
Not far from me, I grew up going out on the Great Lake every summer in a houseboat with one of my dad’s friends and their kids. It was the greatest time. I’ve always wanted to go sailing but have never been. I grew up on a small lake with a small personal sailboat but keel never worked (my dad got from bailing a friend out of jail) so it never steered correctly. We tried several times to get it sailing but never could. One of my dads friends eventually sunk it at the bottom of the Detroit river.
Kinda have a boat. My brother’s friend parked his old boat at our house and then bought another one for himself at his house. He’s been letting us use it for the past 2-3 years. His brother will come over once or twice a year and use it too. I’ll probably buy a used pontoon in a few years for myself.
@kittykat9180
Something was going on, it kept freezing on me when I was trying to post it. I would completely exit out of the page, come back, nothing had posted start over and it would freeze again. Finally after like five attempts it went through. Apperantly it had gone through and just wasn’t showing up on the page for me.

I have a boat. It is pretty much the same as the one in the video below (same colors even), except mine is a 1995 model and has a different engine option.
We used to have a lot of fun with it when the kids were young and at home, but don’t use it as much any more. I should probably clean it up and sell it.
@brainmist@kittykat9180
We had a small SNARK sailboat when the kids were little. Had hours of fun with it in Little Sabine Bay in Pensacola at my father-in-law’s house.

That makes a weird kind of sense.
I used to have a 16 ft. runabout, but that was a long time ago.
It was fun, but expensive and a lot of upkeep.
I have a good china gravy boat (that I haven’t used in forever), but don’t think that’s what you meant.
Come to think of it, I have a boater hat somewhere.

@capnjb @werehatrack Inflatable SUP FTW!

Does Benchy from a 3D printer count?

/image Benchy
And if put Cali Cat on it, does that make it a meme?
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1545913
@narfcake wow I Have several Boats, if Benchy counts, in a couple different sizes & colors! But the Cali Cat, well you might be Catting around way too much!
@narfcake Oh, I want to see that!
@Kyeh The remix exists already:

The referenced meme is this, of course:

@narfcake Thank you!
@narfcake And then there’s this:
This is the only boat I could afford
@heartny but it’s still fun to show a little kid how to make one
I’ve always found it’s best to have a buddy with a boat.
@capnjb This!

@olperfesser Sounds like a very good moves, on all counts!
@olperfesser I moved to Houston for the cool, dry climate. (From Miami.)(But not far enough from Miami.)
That depends. Are you Russians?
@rockblossom what movie is that from?
@unksol
The Russians are Coming! The Russians are Coming!

@rockblossom shows age restictied. Just the title maybe?
I enjoy some of those 50/60s post WW2 movies
Oh the “Russians are coming” is the title lol. Little slow booting up this morning
/showme sailing on a large scale Benchy with cats
@mycya4me Here’s the image you requested for “sailing on a large scale Benchy with cats”
@mediocrebot @mycya4me This needs to become the new benchy.
I live in a place where there’s lots of beach but not any ocean.
I do have a toy boat to sail in the tub when the grandkids come over.
@accelerator where’s that?
@catthegreat New Mexico, West of the Rio Grande. Mostly sandy soil.
I’m part of an adaptative sailing group. We sail on
Lake Michigan;June till the 2nd week of September. So I guess , I sorta have a boat?! At least the use of one.
@jkawaguchi I have family in Racine, WI. My uncle Del used to take me out on the lake in his boat. Great memories!

No, because I don’t think a boat would be very useful in the desert.
@kittykat9180
@kittykat9180 That doesn’t stop the folks in Alice Springs…
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henley-on-Todd_Regatta
@kittykat9180 but you could go sand boarding!
@werehatrack
That would be a reckless waste of water in an area experiencing extreme drought. The Rio Grande went dry last summer.
@kittykat9180 @werehatrack Maybe it should be renamed Rio Pequeño .

Do I have a boat? In this economy? Who do you think I am, Thurston Howell the III?
Even he didn’t have a boat, he chartered one!
@TheDagda For how long did he charter her?
@TheDagda @zhicks1987 Three hours
@capnjb @zhicks1987 Technically, for a three hour tour.
@capnjb @TheDagda @zhicks1987 Which ended up being years. See, that’s how you become a millionaire.
@brainmist @capnjb @TheDagda @zhicks1987
That’s cuz he couldn’t futz around with his money trying to time the market while he was on the island.

@macromeh I’ll send you my buddy’s number

I have a kayak, and would have a lil sailboat if not for familial craziness.
@brainmist
A sailboat sounds like a great way to get away from the craziness.
@brainmist @kittykat9180

I have both my mom’s and dad’s 15 foot aluminum canoes. They have not seen water since I was a kid I think. Who wants to go canoeing?
You can put a boat on a ship. You can’t put a ship on a boat. Yes classifying a canoe as a boat… Meh. We ain’t going out to sea or on the great lakes.
Great lakes adjacent or international? Sure.
