Our family gives I.O.U.'s for time or jobs or whatever the recipient appreciates. My son gave me an I.O.U. book for us to spend time watching a series we really enjoy. We can't watch episodes alone. It's "us" time. Deep conversations when you are distracted with serial fluff. Some say crappy. I say "Time ain't cheap and I don't have to regift it later."
This is pretty much why I stopped going to my family's christmas. I don't have much interest in driving hours to go see them and then we don't do anything but unwrap piles of stuff.
Let's just hang out, talk, play some board games, and drink eggnog, okay? That's cool!

I can't believe there is still only one reply to this. Very well put, and impressively sung. @matthew did you name your puppet version?
@mehdaf Somehow I read "smugly" sung. Which it kind of is. But impressive too. And I don't disagree with it.

I enjoy the white elephant gift exchanges far more than the regular unwrapping.
Oranges were the gift cards of a hundred years ago.
@darksaber99999 You could trade them at various merchants for things like a piece of ribbon or a button!
This was bitingly funny, but at the same time expressing a sweet sentiment. I think that is probably a rare combination to pull off.
Without the yapping:
Yay, @MiniMatthiew!
@PocketBrain I am not sure that is minimathew, the voice is different and I think the chin is different... is it "Really Little" Bertie?
@matthew --Who's the new puppet in mehtown ?
