I haven’t even bothered looking other than to grab some shirts and one other item over at Woot. Last year’s Prime Daze selection was so completely disinteresting that I really don’t care what’s up this time. I feel like it’s probably not worth the effort to slog through their morass of flashy crap trying to find the one-in-a-thousand item I might actually want - which probably won’t be at the best price I can find.
Bought 3 bright red kick stools that have been on my “save and compare” list for a couple of years. They were about $30 when I first saw them, have ranged between $40 and $65 ever since, and for some reason are $13.79 before tax right now. And I love kick stools.
@mossygreen ugh! I just received a candle instead of a kickstool, too. Did you return yours yet? I have to send back this dinky stinky candle before they will refund my money. This candle is probably worth $2 at the most.
@gogrrl@mossygreen@sammydog01 Also Kohl’s usually gives a $5 coupon for in-store – perfect for an impulse purchase and/or super discounted clearance stuff.
Did I need a long sleeve flannel in this weather? Nope. Would I turn it down when it’s 30 cents after the coupon? Nope to that too!
@gogrrl Urgh, so sorry. Is it the Champagne Cheers scent too? So disappointing. I contacted the selling company directly because I (of course) can’t return what amazon thinks I bought, and they did refund the sale of 2 without making me return them, but I just looked and I have to contact them again about the other purchase.
I’m still looking for kick stools, Home Depot seems to have the same thing in black or blue for about $35. Maybe there’ll be an amazing sale that won’t end in candles…
@mossygreen yes…same candle for me. I also contacted the seller directly, but haven’t heard back yet. I imagine everyone who ordered that kickstool recently received a candle as well. Will check out the other place you mentioned. Thanks!
Also some Teeturtle plushies because why not! And to think they were founded only as a side job and as a middle finger to shirt.woot changing the blanks. https://smile.amazon.com/s?k=Teeturtle&i=prime-day
@sammydog01 It’s Amazon; they’d very likely will take it back. Unless it’s defective; the last two times that happened with Warehouse items, I took it up with chat and they just refunded me. Granted, one was a set of roof rack cross bars, and maybe they figured that paying to ship it back would cost more than the $8.71 it was sold for.
Prime day can be a bust. Many discounted things are only discounted as much as on a usual “item on sale” day.
Many high-tech offers are in last year’s version or on items about to be supplanted by newer versions. Overall does not compare to Nov-Dec pricing.
But there are always a few really good prices on items.
For me so far

I think there are some decent blender / air fryer / cookware type deals going if one wants to do big bucks.
@Lynnerizer@sammydog01 It was an ad on the banner for something like “Earn an extra $10 for Prime Day”. The 4 things you had to do were: 1. watch a Prime Video (easy, we watch prime content all the time), 2. get an ebook from the Kindle store (easy, SWMBO is on KU and reads all the time), 3) listen to a song on Amazon Music (that was a little tricky to play from the browser - I didn’t want to install the Amazon Music app), and the last one was to ship something selecting your Amazon Day (not a big deal the next thing I ordered was 2-day on Friday or my Amazon Day on Saturday).
They did have “Gift of Kindle Unlimited” on discount (2 years for max savings - $6/mo). It’s regularly available like that and they make it clear it will extend an existing subscription (unlike Prime).
I get that whenever it comes up because it’s my present for my wife’s birthday. She reads on her kindle everyday and it’s her favorite present.
Wasn’t expecting to buy anything, but came across a lightning deal for a Kenner four-figure Star Wars set. It was a Bad Batch special collection which I tried months ago to buy but was sold out and unavailable at that time. Thought I’d just have to do without. Was super surprised to find it at all, much less at a great price.
Note: It’s the set which has the Captain Ballast figure, the clone whose name was changed to Captain Howzer in the Bad Batch show.
@sammydog01
That’s what I bought, a echo dot. It’s my first one. Also got the smart plug/outlet that was in a bundle.
Then I also got my cat flea treatment. No big splurging for me!
@Lynnerizer If you decide you like the echo products, they have a trade-in for older ones. I got my echo show 8 for $23 by trading in a super old echo dot. They had a really good deal for Prime Day and might again around Black Friday. People buy old echo stuff at Woot just to trade-in. The Spots I bought for $30 are worth 25% off a new echo device plus a $30 gift card.
Then again you might hate it. Alexa can be creepy.
@sammydog01
Thanks, that’s good to know! Several family members have one or another version of the echo dot so I’ve seen it in action a few times. I’ve got to start looking on Woot again, not sure how I got out of the habit.
Bought a book nook kit, which I’ve wanted to try. We have tonnage of books and I want to see one of these on the shelf with them. Otherwise its been pretty meh. I was trying to buy a really nice Casio watch but the site kept erroring when I tried to put it in my cart; after a few minutes it fell out of the prime sale and was more than double the sale price.
picked up a queen memory foam mattress for my sleeper sofa for like $130…
replacing the original spring mattress from 1998. (like everyone/thing else… it sags a bit more than it did in 1998)
I am with @narfcake … I liked the 25% off warehouse crap. I bought a small heat press off of warehouse for $75, a schwinn ebike that my son had been eyeing for $1200ish. I did get 2 kindles for “free” by using $6 in amex points and some prime day credits, and a pair of beats for like $85 with prime day credits and deals…
I broke down and got the Opal icemaker. Have been eyeballing it since it came out … They marked it down to 429 (150 off), no bluetooth (not that I need it) but with the extra side tank. I should save enough money by skipping the trip to Sonic in about a year.
@CharlieDoggo
Charlie… Do NOT eat the jumpy green things. Last time one of my dogs did that he couldn’t spit it out fast enough, then foamed at the mouth for an hour or more, slobbering all over the place. It’s not a good look for you!
I’ve been thinking about a massive lithium-ion battery pack (“generator”, no it’s not a generator) for a while, and the 1000W Jackery (solid brand) is 30% off, and so are the solar panels for recharging, so I sprung for it.
If you’re interested, buy them separately. The bundle deal is several hundred more.
@blaineg@mike808 Citing an 8 year/100,000 miles warranty and “a car’s lifetime” … but I’ve yet to own any vehicle that met that criteria at the time of my purchase.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(I had been thinking about a Ford Maverick hybrid in a couple years, after it’s been more proven. Being first model year and the current situation of crazy dealer markups – nope!)
Back to the power bank, it’s all about the battery management. Extreme temperatures, overcharging, deep discharging, or excessive current really takes a toll on the cells. Avoid all that, and they should hold for a while.
@blaineg@narfcake This isn’t an EV battery. This is a mass produced standalone unit that isn’t certified by the feds for anything. An EV is a vehicle and that has to meet DOT and consumer safety regulations (since “Unsafe at any speed” showed that corporate self-regulation does not work, just like “trickle down” and other corporate buzzwords used to market, cover up, and perpetuate their frauds and harms inflicted upon the public).
So an EV warranty has as much applicability to this Jackery device as the 1 year battery warranty on my phone.
Not saying it’s a bad device. I’m concerned that it’s a waste of money (in my case) to buy something that will sit waiting for emergency use for 6 years and then 1) not be charged, and 2) not hold a charge even if I did charge it beforehand.
If I knew to charge it beforehand, wouldn’t I be better off just buying a new one that isn’t 6 years old. Or 8 years old. Or older.
How often should one be buying one of these, so they can not use it even once in most cases, before needing to by a fresh replacement to be certain it will be able to do the job you’re purchasing it for. That’s my core question about this (and similar) products in this space.
It just seems like marketing if you’re in a place (like I am) where in the last 20 years, I can only remember one 3-day power outage, and never a water or natural gas outage.
Does this product (or similar) have guidance on things like “annual battery maintenance schedule” and battery replacement schedule (especially in case of non-use) or is the battery even designed to be replaceable and someone else has a replacement schedule? Like prepper sites have for deep cycle marine battery banks you can build yourself, which is a different use case than this product, but the purpose (emergency power battery storage, years long duration storage/non-use) is the same.
My worry is that this isn’t actually designed for that - but it is being sold as if it were. It seems more “built-in obsolescence” than “built to last decades” - since the purpose is precisely that - to last decades.
If I need to buy one of these every 3-5 years to sit unused in my basement, that’s basically just a cost with little ROI for what is preparedness for a very rare event potential. A cost that might better be spent towards an actual solution designed for that longer term duration and has maintenance service schedule and replacement parts available.
Just like cars do for those long-term warranties on other parts, like the engine and transmission and suspension and such typically, and those with shorter lifetimes have replacement schedules and available replacement parts.
This device, to me, feels more like playing to a marketing “need” to suburbanites that we should get an SUV with off-road features when we will likely never actually drive off-road.
@blaineg This is bizarre. I bought the exact same items, as well as a water pump for my backyard well. The well finally got refurbed (house built 1963), and I have garden plans for next year. I too bought them separately. We have good taste, non?
@blaineg It arrived, and typical for Jackery, the build quality is great.
Charging works as advertised, it came about 50% full, and it fully charged in several hours. Each panel puts out 60W for a total of 120W, if they’re aimed directly at the sun. It drops to 100W if they’re just aimed in the general direction.
The meter shows charge/drain wattage and capacity, but no run/charge time estimate. It switches charging off when it reaches 100%
The solar panels have a zip pouch on the backside that holds the integral charging cable. And there’s 2 USB charging ports built in too. The cable length is pretty generous, but I didn’t measure it.
There are also AC and car chargers included, if you prefer recycled electrons.
I got a couple of packs of assorted food bars and a two pack of 32 GB SD cards. Not outstanding deals, but cheap enough and they’re things I was going to buy anyway.
I got some similar random deals on stuff I was going to buy anyway at Target - laundry baskets, soap, vitamins, a couple of shirts.
And I got a couple of big plastic foot lockers from Big Lots. My church needed two more for the Crates for Ukraine project and we bought out the supply at Walmart. Big Lots charged for shipping (and didn’t have any available for local pickup), so with the sale they came out almost the same price as from Walmart.
I got some stuff I needed/wanted. New Solar motion sensor lights (the ones I bought 3-4 years ago are starting to die). A jump starter pack for the car. Cleaning ‘slime’, and a new lightweight blanket for the bed. Then I got a decorative wind spinner, and I got the piggies a taco tunnel and a rainbow tunnel as new hides for their cage. I almost got them hats and bow ties as well, but I figured the taco tunnel was going to be amusing enough. Plus they hate when I dress them.
Oh and I also got my daughter some light strips from her wishlist since her birthday was Monday and that was the only thing she mentioned when I asked.
I tried to skip it this year…but, the browsing finally got me and I ended up getting the Nebo 6000 lumen rechargeable “assault” flashlight at about 33% off (almost never goes on sale).
Yeah, I’m super excited to get it. Should be in today. I have an older 3700 lumen model that takes 12 AA that is stupid bright…hopefully this one is ludicrous bright!
@callow
I’m reading it worded exactly the same. Lol STILL looks like a great deal to me! Wish I would’ve seen that discount with the gift card purchase. At least now I’ll know for next time!
I ended up getting a shark cordless vacuum with gift cards I had from Xmas. It was only 30% off so I know I should have held out to Black Friday but I’m getting sick of hauling the big vacuum around when I do things like the couches, crevices in the hardwood that dirt collects in and stairs and around the plants. If I don’t like it, it’s going back and I’ll wait.
@PHRoG
I debated buying a corded bc it will likely never fail like the cordless will but I wanna see the hype of the cordless. Ever though the cord doesn’t bother me that much, er have lots of outlets.
@PHRoG@Star2236
Isn’t it a fact that the corded vacuum is always more powerful? I’ve been out of the game as far as vacuuming goes for 25+ years, it’s a pretty big fall hazard when you at least 1 crutch to get around. Still wondering though since I DO still supply the cleaning equipment.
@Lynnerizer@PHRoG
I think there a big difference in suction between corded and cordless with the corded being the best. Mines supposed to be here Tuesday so we’ll see how good this new one is.
@Star2236@PHRoG
None of my buys were duplicates, except: two pairs of shorts in different colors, different types/colors of tennis balls (so not technically duplicates), and non-latex gloves in different sizes.
Not everything I purchased was prime day sale, some were regular price. But I have my Amazon store card for that extra 1% back (6% instead of normal 5%) and all but one of these items were done on slow shipping so I get digital credits which I use.
And what was nice is that a couple higher ticket items did have prime day sale AND was able to do Subscribe and Save for that extra 15% off, so on average, pretty decent savings.
In calendar year 2021, I had 438 orders, with an average of 1.5 items per order. Trying to win the prize for best Amazon customer. Yes, they legit give trophies and recognition for that LOL.
@hammi99 A few years ago, I had a solid one month in which there was an Amazon package arriving every single day.
My count is up there, but given that many are one-item orders from Warehouse, I’m certainly not among the more efficient Amazon customers, even though many of my multi-item orders are packaged separately anyway. Also it’s not my fault they sold stuff like cables/adapters/bins for under 10 cents.
@Targaryen It’s the latest trend amongst billionaires, evidently: Sun Valley Reveals a New Billionaire Dress Code
WSJ article that I can’t view because it’s paywalled.
The big score was at best buy, a Facebook portal for $35. I know, Facebook, and I don’t do Facebook, but it’s supposed to run Teams and with an auto follow and zoom camera this could be quite handy for work. My webcam from here with the built in light (which works pretty well) has too wide an angle for the way my workspace is set up.
If not, well, it was $145 off, I’m sure I can use it for something. It’s essentially the price of a webcam anyway.
@werehatrack True. The few “good deals” required Prime membership. FU Amazon.
Bought some hangers so far, still looking for a cordless stick vacuum.
Needed new remotes for my firetv so just got the 11.99 models.
Bought 3 bright red kick stools that have been on my “save and compare” list for a couple of years. They were about $30 when I first saw them, have ranged between $40 and $65 ever since, and for some reason are $13.79 before tax right now. And I love kick stools.
@mossygreen Tragically, my bright red kick stools transformed into Glade scented candles in transit. Such are the vicissitudes of amazon.
@mossygreen well that is terrible
@mossygreen
They’ll fix it, won’t they?!
@mossygreen I ordered one of those as well. I wonder if I’m also going to receive a candle instead.![:face_with_raised_eyebrow:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f928.png)

@blaineg Do you have concerns over battery lifetime and long-term storage discharge?
Even deep-cycle marine batteries need regular maintenance in storage.
Have things changed (besides marketing and hype) to make these better than old school gangs of lead-acid battery banks?
It’s tempting, but my fear is it’s a bust when the power goes out four years from now for a couple of days and you need this to be ready and to work.
@mike808 It’s lithium-ion, which is pretty well proven tech at this point. I’ve got an 8 year old Jackery power bank that still works fine.
This can’t compete with banks of lead acid batteries on capacity, but it is a bit more portable.![:-)](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f642.png)

@mike808 @narfcake
Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I was under the impression I was on my way to buying a solar powered car.
@narfcake
That’s a really weird name to recycle. This will always be the Ford Maverick to me.
Then again, this is the company that named an electric family car the Mustang Mach E.
@blaineg This is bizarre. I bought the exact same items, as well as a water pump for my backyard well. The well finally got refurbed (house built 1963), and I have garden plans for next year. I too bought them separately. We have good taste, non?
@blaineg @narfcake
Well, they should hold for a while. Unless you bought one from Meh a couple of years back.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/snugmax-vickers-200-pure-sine-222wh60000mah-portable-power-station#62d2e5b7cfe89081a977128f
Several folks reporting that product didn’t last 2 years.
I tried to skip it this year…but, the browsing finally got me and I ended up getting the Nebo 6000 lumen rechargeable “assault” flashlight at about 33% off (almost never goes on sale).
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZS5BQV4/
Plus some jeans and a stainless tubshroom.
@PHRoG Sweet torch.
@mike808 Thanks!!
Yeah, I’m super excited to get it. Should be in today. I have an older 3700 lumen model that takes 12 AA that is stupid bright…hopefully this one is ludicrous bright!
@PHRoG Fucker probably goes all the way to Plaid bright!

Bought a $50 gift card to get $12.50 credit and an echo dot.

Oh wow looks like I lost on my buy! I didn’t see that and I bought the echo dot!
@Lynnerizer Sorry, I worded that badly. Bought a $50 gift card to get $12.50 credit and bought an echo dot.
@callow
STILL looks like a great deal to me! Wish I would’ve seen that discount with the gift card purchase. At least now I’ll know for next time! ![:thumbsup:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f44d.png)

I’m reading it worded exactly the same. Lol
@Star2236 Good call! Shark fan here too.
My daughter still keeps trying to steal my corded handheld I got from here like 4 years ago,![:laughing:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f606.png)
Someday I’ll go cordless and gift it to her.
Kinda miss them showing up here too.
@PHRoG
I debated buying a corded bc it will likely never fail like the cordless will but I wanna see the hype of the cordless. Ever though the cord doesn’t bother me that much, er have lots of outlets.
@PHRoG @Star2236
Isn’t it a fact that the corded vacuum is always more powerful? I’ve been out of the game as far as vacuuming goes for 25+ years, it’s a pretty big fall hazard when you at least 1 crutch to get around. Still wondering though since I DO still supply the cleaning equipment.
@Lynnerizer @PHRoG
I think there a big difference in suction between corded and cordless with the corded being the best. Mines supposed to be here Tuesday so we’ll see how good this new one is.
Final count: 38 orders over the two days! LOL

None of my, quite extensive, saved for later items went on sale this year.![:(](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f61e.png)
Are a bunch of those multiple of the same thing…or, opening up a store soon?
@hammi99
Right, did your order 39 separate items or multiples of the same?
@Star2236 @PHRoG
@hammi99 I made the stupid mistake of looking.![:scream_cat:](https://dj5zo597wtsux.cloudfront.net/joypixels/assets/6.6/png/unicode/64/1f640.png)

WSJ article that I can’t view because it’s paywalled.
@Kyeh They’re stealing my style this is unacceptable.
@Targaryen Or maybe it just means you’re destined to join their ranks?
@Kyeh Well I hope it happens soon, I’m not getting any younger. I feel the urge to tell those damn kids to get off the communal grass.

@Targaryen
Love it.
And so I discovered that Portal only supports Intune MAM and not MDM. No can sign in.
