3I just but a sweatshirt and a t-shirt from woot for my elder child for Christmas. Recently, all of the clothing from them has come in with a strange chemically odor.
So, do you think this will air out, or should I wash the sweatshirt before I wrap it for Christmas?

Could the odor get into the clothes from the packaging?
Try airing out and see.
They print them to order- you should have enough time to air them out before Christmas. Those sweatshirts pill like crazy so I would avoid washing it before gifting if possible.
Air it out. The vinegary smell is the DTG printer pre-treatment.
I haven’t had much of an issue with the Gildan sweatshirts pilling, but it’s not like I need to wear them in SoCal much either. It’s supposed to be in the 90’s again today.

Mid 50s here, so naturally I’m wearing shirt sleeves.
As mentioned earlier this year, I’ll wear them even in colder weather.
@narfcake I wear them a lot and they look like crap- kinda surprised me. Both the ones I looked at were Guildan. I’m happy with all my shirts.
@narfcake It is in the 90’s outside, but low 60’s in my office. I have a giant sweatshirt on right now.

Regardless of printing method, Anvil’s fabric isn’t as strong. None of my AA shirts have worn out like these two:
A third copy of Nocturnowl has holes at the sleeve seam too. I’ll wear it until that dies too, then I’ll put an AA copy into wear rotation.
@narfcake hubby has a turtle tee shirt, it has a fine line of fabric in the middle of the design – I think it is the duct tape one – it is “ventilated” now… the image is all that is holding the front of the shirt together, but it is soooo soft. I wear it sleep in now…

Is sweatshirt pilling reduced by washing them inside-out? I do that with all of the kids’ printed t-shirts (mostly Minecraft & Pokémon related), but I don’t thank any are woot.shirts.

Other causes - the washer; top loaders are harsher than front loaders. Likewise with using a dryer versus hang drying.
(I have a front loader and the majority of my shirts are hung dry; zero energy cost FTW.)

@narfcake Top loader and Bounce sheets- but my t-shirts come out just fine. It’s just those crappy sweats. And I have other sweatshirts that are good wash after wash, year after year. I’m a fan of cotton.
