Hey - that super flashlight that Navy Seals allegedly use, that's marked 80% off (!!!) for only $56... Is that the same flashlight that's selling everywhere else for a fraction of that amount? Am I missing something here?
Could be my misinterpretation. The meh home page includes an ad: "We Recommend" with a link to the flashlight "deal" (I won't do them the favor of repeating the link here). I thought that was a meh recommendation, but maybe it's just a generic ad that follows me around. Wish I could have a minimal-fee meh membership that was ad-free.
@Collin1000 Same. I've never seen "we recommend" - unless it's placed IN the ad itself, in which case it's not meh/mediocre saying it, it's the ad telling you they recommend themselves.
I know the army uses streamlights. Not sure about navy seals. But I've used a mil spec Streamlight and it's damn bright. Not sure they'd need to resort to web ads with questionable tactics to sell them.
@djslack I've been dabbling into EDC stuff lately, and my latest project is a great EDC flashlight that won't break my budget (sub $30, but willing to venture higher for something that better last me YEARS). Any tips?
@phb I'm by far not an expert, I just happened to get to use that Streamlight one time. It was awesome but not something I would buy for the prices they want. My everyday light for a while was a Coast inspection light that I picked up at home depot. It was a pen form factor, 2AA cells. Bright enough but not super bright, but it was focused like a spotlight with no spillover from the beam, which can be both good and bad depending on what you're trying to do. I misplaced it when I moved, though.

I've seen similar ads on yahoo ... all continuing the spiral toward Idiocracy. My current edc light looks similar to what they peddle, and I have paid anywhere from $13 with a charger & 18650 battery to maybe $15-$20 for the first one I got 3 years ago.
A quick search just now found a CREE XM-L T6 like the one pictured in ads @$5.98 on amazon (ref# B008MROLX0).
This is the one that will blind a bear, lemme know how that goes.
The Reddit Is Fun app on my phone will have ads for this thing: http://tacticalmilitaryflashlight.com/ It looks to be identical to most other shoddy generic China flashlights. Output is 700 lumens, the blogspam is rather infomercial-y.
Upon doing some lurking there, I chose a ~1000 lumen Zebralight for marginally more than these too good to be true "Navy Seal" flashlights. You'll find something that suits your needs.
lolwut?
I think we're all missing something here.
You mean the one they've been talking about for the last few months? I get emails about it...
I think @nrelles is talking about these (and similar) web ads.
@Ignorant You and your logic!
(Most of the ads I remember seeing are to Amazon stuff I viewed recently, TeeTurtle, or Threadless.)
@narfcake Same here.

@nrelles Yep, that's just an ad. Never paid attention to the "We Recommend" tag.
@djslack I never noticed that as the tag to begin with. Mine says sponsor unless meh just changed it.

@Collin1000 Good eye, you're right. They say sponsor or advertisement below each one.

I've been getting a couple of spam mails every week crowing about the uber-powerful military-technology flashlight that is now available to civilians!
@duodec Flashlights don't seem like the type of thing that would be restricted from civilians anyway.

If you want to get a decent flashlight, scope out reddit.com/r/flashlight , here is their crash course.
