@Stallion Which reminds me: My birthday was on September 18, and Meh was selling the last of the JBL OnBeat Micro Speaker Docks that day. JonT said Happy Birthday, I'm sending you a speaker dock. Darned if he didn't! Captain Giveaway!
@Kyle772: Yes, HDMI is digital. But not all devices support audio over HDMI or even have HDMI. @alpine: Yes, ONE port. I currently have two devices I need to feed to my receiver via optical output.
Bottom line: this is not a suitable upgrade to my old Yamaha receiver. Sorry, meh! I'll wait until you have a better receiver or until I've replaced some of my input devices.
I own the VSX-1021 and am VERY happy with its sound quality. The calibration works amazingly well and is painless. No reason not to recalibrate each time you move your furniture.
@aarond12 same here. 1021K. That was the last model using components from their pro line. Paid $200 for it, I think. Way more features (2 zones, 7.1, internet radio), but no 4k. So this is a meh deal if I needed a new one.
For those that might be interested, check Pioneer's approved vendor list. If purchased from someone not on the list, Pioneer will not honor the warranty. Buyer Beware.
@beerguy01 Hey @moose - can you verify, or pester a buyer to verify that mediocre/meh is an approved vendor for Pioneer, so they'll honor the warranty?
If anyone is thinking about getting a sound bar I highly suggest getting a cheap surround receiver and two or three decent speakers, maybe bookshelfs with eight inch woofers for left and right and a standard center channel if you still have money left.
You don't need all six speakers to beat the heck out of a sound bar.
I am the Pioneer Representative and all of this product done on or out of Meh.com are covered by Pioneer Warranty. We had an issue that has since been fixed, thanks and sorry for the confusion...
@Marat It depends. Banana plugs are not the best electrical connection (something like spade lugs would be), but they are certainly the most convenient. That's what I use.
On the receiver you need two per speaker, so that's ten. On the speaker end of the wires it depends on what kind of connectors the speakers have and how much room you've got behind them (for example, my surround speakers could use banana plugs, but that would push them away from the wall). Get two per speaker.
If your speakers have clip connectors and you can't use banana plugs you may still be able to use those skinny post connectors.

@hollboll Here's another item I'd accept as a prize. In fact, I'd be thrilled to receive it.
@lichme "eventually"
@lichme you seem kind of amped about it.
@Thumperchick if there's something i need to watch to win these things, I'd tune in!
@lichme Sorry, @JonT was the king of giveaway and he is no longer in the position to give.
@lichme well "listen up " this deal speaks volumes to me!

@gertiestn you should mention that here: https://meh.com/forum/topics/help-hollboll-out
@lichme Does this one go to eleven?
Antenna plus one is eleven, yes?
This again? MEH.
No thanks
Still waiting to set up my Onkyo that was purchased a few months back...this is not the deal for me.
@studerc same here
@studerc I bought this exact receiver 2 months ago for $20 more and haven't set it up. :(
@studerc haha same here. I don't have enough money to buy a nice set of speakers for it.
ever been a meh that sold 0?
@prof this is the worst one that I can recall:
https://meh.com/deals/kindle-fire-hdx-8-9--wi-fi--16-gb--with-special-offers
@prof not yet!
These entry level receivers all lack optical audio input ports for me. Plenty of HDMI, but not enough digital audio ports.
@einrad HDMI is digital
@einrad This has one optical port.
@Kyle772: Yes, HDMI is digital. But not all devices support audio over HDMI or even have HDMI.
@alpine: Yes, ONE port. I currently have two devices I need to feed to my receiver via optical output.

I would like the groovy Meh van.
Hey it's twenty bucks less than last time. ... I bought it last time. Nuts.
I have a previous model from a couple years ago - I paid $0.00.
One of our receivers is a much older Pioneer. It has been a tank. Good to know that Pioneer still makes remotes with truly shitty layouts.
According to the geo heat map, people in north Georgia love this. ???
$140 for a receiver nearly the size of a VW bus? notbad.jpg
Got a Yamaha RX-V377 off the egg for the same price a while back. Was a marginally better deal.
I say what a "dial"!
I'll stick with my Pioneer SX-1250. I'm still living in the '70's!
Bluetooth would have sealed the deal...
no bluetooth, no interest

Higher models like my '1021 have AirPlay, but those complaining about no Bluetooth can add a Bluetooth module like this one: http://www.amazon.com/HomeSpot-NFC-Enabled-Bluetooth-Receiver-System/dp/B009OBCAW2/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1446034721&sr=8-7&keywords=bluetooth+receiver

HEY @beerguy01, @szupek said "You just prevented me from purchasing this. Thank you http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Where-To-Buy/Pioneer+Home+Audio+Video+Authorized+Internet+Dealers?appInstanceName=default"
@beerguy01 I bought this receiver last time and had problems with it. The first guy I talked to at Pioneer was an ass about this.
@beerguy01 oh no! can a Meh staffer reassure that the warranty will be honored?
@beerguy01 Hey @moose - can you verify, or pester a buyer to verify that mediocre/meh is an approved vendor for Pioneer, so they'll honor the warranty?
@szupek @Kevin @j8erg @doubleabeepbeep @beerguy01 Check this out. Pioneer is working on updating their site to show that meh/mediocre are an approved vendor and the warranty will be honored.
You just prevented me from purchasing this. Thank you http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Where-To-Buy/Pioneer+Home+Audio+Video+Authorized+Internet+Dealers?appInstanceName=default
Having a claim denied by Onkyo a few years ago under similar circumstances, has made me a bit leery on large purchases.
I'm not dumping on Meh, don't get me wrong.
This is the Pioneer warranty info, I guess my search for a receiver continues.

@froman I bolded your comment so people would see it. Thanks for popping in and clearing that up.
@froman Thanks for the clarification, I'm in for one.
Amazon.com just showed me the Pioneer 7.2 version as a Deal of the Day.

paging @galmaegi
@galmaegi ^^ (looks like @thismyusername beat me to the page by 2 minutes!)
One for @thismyusername, one for @Thumperchick!
@galmaegi mmmmmm macaroon!
@thismyusername I'd love to have one after drinking the evil "Malort"!!
How many banana plugs should I buy? I have 5 speakers.
@Marat How many leaky bananas do you have?
@Marat It depends. Banana plugs are not the best electrical connection (something like spade lugs would be), but they are certainly the most convenient. That's what I use.
