I have a few coffee mugs, because it's vitally important that one is always within reach. There's the ubiquitous starbucks mug that was a holiday gift from someone: wide base, hard to tip. There's the dunkin donuts mug that celebrates my roots, even though their coffee really isn't that great. Then there's this one, which is self-explanatory:
When I first got it I was still new to unix/linux text editors, and it was very useful! Now it's just a great mug that on very rare occasions I need to reference.. I had to write one extra line on it in sharpie (which eventually wore off):
@brhfl I've worked with various linux/unix users and admins for about 13 years now, and I've only ever met one person who used emacs! I honestly forget that it even exists! lol.
I also get very confused at the simplicity of nano.. I rarely ever use it because it just doesn't make sense to me.. lol.. That's probably pretty dumb.
@brhfl I bought it from ThinkGeek long ago.. It seems that they no longer sell it though.. They do have a great selection of mugs available at the link above.
@kadagan Yeah I've never been a big fan of nano(/pico/whatever), but I guess it's good as far as easing people into the CLI experience. I've been known to write out .htaccess files using just the shell's line editor, though, so my opinion on these things probably shouldn't hold that much weight :D
Got this back in the late 90s for free. I had lots of visitors to my GeoCities home. My first home on the internet. Then Yahoo bought them out and they sucked.
I collect Taylor & Ng mugs. Here are five of them:
Four are from the French animals series, of which I have… many more than the four shown here. I also have quite a few of their 'Animates' mugs, which depict adorable animal orgies. But the one on the right, not in a named series (that I'm aware of), is my go-to mug. Also seen in the photo are a WTWTA mug, a mug from some anniversary of Starbucks (which I don't go to, but I love the original siren logo), and an old Apple mug.
@brhfl My best friend's mom had the elephant orgy mug. For the longest time she thought it was just a cute elephant mug until he finally told her to look at it more closely.
@JonT@thismyusername Black Mesa Research Facility is an anagram for "Aaliyah backfire steel RSMCC," a clear reference to Aaliyah's plane crash; RSMCC is likely code for the detonations in case the plan backfired and the steel didn't melt.
Delivering the Future is an anagram for "I luve the rude finger," obviously giving the middle finger to Americans.
The words all together = "Architectural Building Materials Effervesce keyh," referencing the buildings turning into dust and now memorial fountains.
Valve "delivered the future" by helping Bush do 9/11.
@JonT I have a theory that Valve's next big announcement will simply be "3." That'll give them time to work out which "2" they want to make a sequel for.
@phatmass I actually like the Contigo mug better, because of the spring-loaded open/close, but the "24 ounces" got me. I hope they sell some Contigo auto-close vacuum mugs in this size. That would be excellent.
"Oh?" said Teripie in a mock surprise voice. "You wish to see my 'go to' coffee cup? I fear it's not at all fancy or clever. But it does match my dishes."
@Teripie You know you can turn off the orange date thing, right? EXIF data includes date and time of the photo so there's really no need to print dates on images anymore. I've always found it strange that those archaic orange dates ever made the leap from analogue to digital cameras. I think Irk should talk about it in a future MIBMMTIS.
@curtise I like the date as it appears on the picture. I'm an old fart who is still living in the last century. The EXIF thingy you refer to is way out of my league. But thanks for the info. Maybe some day I'll figure it out and will be able to see when I took a bunch of older pictures.
My most functional one is a promotional mug I got while working a 2 year stint at a pharmaceutical marketing company. It's not much to look at, but is so well insulated that my coffee stays hot so much longer that any other (outside of a contigo or something).
My go-to / old reliable is at my house; however, my two work mugs are pictured below. sorry for the rotation being skewed
@connorbush in the background are the tiny mugs to share with people. (I have a Keurig on my desk)
@connorbush @jont will you,please, delete this? I must re-upload with proper rotation.
@connorbush no no, is better like this. magic mugs of sideways coffee holding.
@SSteve TMBG Win.
@DrunkCat I have that mug. It's a little smaller then I expected though.
@The_Baron It is. It is literally a cup, and the sticker on the bottom where I wrote "8oz" is still there after three years.
@DrunkCat We drink what we must because we can.
@DrunkCat
I am more a Black Mesa friend and my mug is bigger than yours. I think its 12ozs.
@darkzrobe hey that's my mug!
@thismyusername I had it first. My car is also labeled.
I only drink with the baddest Me(t)h dealer around
I was trying to decide between this one and my Canucks mug. Did you know I work in a library?

@DaveInSoCal This is my coffee mug at work these days as well.
When I first got it I was still new to unix/linux text editors, and it was very useful! Now it's just a great mug that on very rare occasions I need to reference.. I had to write one extra line on it in sharpie (which eventually wore off):
That one was priceless.
@kadagan That is an awesome mug. I want to find an equivalent emacs mug…
…AND SMASH IT.
@brhfl I've worked with various linux/unix users and admins for about 13 years now, and I've only ever met one person who used emacs! I honestly forget that it even exists! lol.

As for the ThinkGeek mugs, well… one stands out…
@kadagan do. want.
@katylava I found it still for sale here: https://www.nostarch.com/mug.htm
@Lotsofgoats Ooh, I need that mug!
@jaremelz weird wrong curved version:
http://www.amazon.com/Fred-Friends-FISTICUP-Ceramic-Knuckleduster/dp/B002MUBWVM
same company that makes mine but way more badass version:
http://www.amazon.com/Knuckle-Duster-Coffee-Black-Silver/dp/B002YXGPXC/
also same company perhaps too intense version:
http://www.amazon.com/Knuckle-Duster-Blood-Spattered-Mug/dp/B005XEKACG/
@Lotsofgoats Thanks! That black one is calling me.
I'm sad nobody said anything about the hidden doge :(
Got this back in the late 90s for free. I had lots of visitors to my GeoCities home. My first home on the internet. Then Yahoo bought them out and they sucked.
@lisaviolet Sorry... I still occasionally find links to geocities in my notes and archives and wish I could get to the sites.
@duodec There are some archives sites. One of them is http://www.geocities.ws/archive/.
I think I had moved on to my own website/domain by that time.
I might be a girl, but...
And my Sasquatch mug from the funky gift shop at Mt St Helens.
University of North Texas
@zacatac I LOVE this one...many people deserve it! Most notably a few clients of mine.
@zacatac Ha! I guess all of your meetings are next Tuesday.
@zacatac Oh I must have this
@zacatac Considering that I graduated from good ole' UNT I feel that I need to add this to my collection.
My wonderful mug that I am currently using at work ... (otherwise I use a Charlie Brown mug that my wife bought me)
I don't drink coffee much anymore, but I really like my heat-activated mug with my dog's stupid face on it.
I grabbed this one from Seligman on one of my first days and have held onto it ever since
@harrison is my mug buddy!
@JonT You guys are cute.
@j_sh Do you want to be our mug buddy too?
@JonT @harrison -- ah good, now when one of you leaves his mug, full of coffee, on the espresso machine, i will have this picture for reference.
Heck ya I have the Disappearing TARDIS mug
My main mug:
@emilyap I'm a bit disappointed with myself for not posting the other side, which is the explanatory bit:

For your consideration: 20oz of Etsy goodness
One of these is for water and the other is for coffee.
Feel free to guess which gets used for what. :)
@narfcake
@jaremelz You'll see that the Powerpuff mug is still white and the 1 liter Ikea "mug" has some coffee staining at the bottom.
FWIW, I've had days in which one "cup" wasn't enough.
This is my caffeine delivery vessel
@thismyusername
It looks like 2 mugs in this picture but really it's 1.
2 + 1 = 3
"DELIVERING THE FUTURE" = 3 words
HL3 confirmed.
@JonT @thismyusername Black Mesa Research Facility is an anagram for "Aaliyah backfire steel RSMCC," a clear reference to Aaliyah's plane crash; RSMCC is likely code for the detonations in case the plan backfired and the steel didn't melt.

Valve "delivered the future" by helping Bush do 9/11.
Half Life 3 is releasing on September 11, 2015.
@JonT I have a theory that Valve's next big announcement will simply be "3." That'll give them time to work out which "2" they want to make a sequel for.
I know you've seen this one before.
But it really does work as advertised.
@2many2no You are so right! These are great. They hold ice for almost 2 days. No more warm drinking water at the bedside.
@Teripie Coffee stays hot for 5 to 6 hours.
@2many2no I made a mistake not buying these. I hope they come back.
@phatmass I actually like the Contigo mug better, because of the spring-loaded open/close, but the "24 ounces" got me. I hope they sell some Contigo auto-close vacuum mugs in this size. That would be excellent.
Never needs cleaning, always turns up next to the coffee pot without any effort at all!
My husband and I tend to get Starbucks mugs when we travel. Our haul from our trip to Europe in November:
My most favorite one so far is this one from London.
@hollboll your favorite mug wears a bow tie. That's totes adorbz.
@JonT Bow ties are cool.
@hollboll
@thismyusername I knew someone'd get that. ;)
This used to be my everyday mug until the cracks developed. I guess you do need to listen if it says 'Do not use in microwave.'
@looseneck The cracks give it character.
@PocketBrain Character and seepage :)

@curtise But EXIF data is creepy data only used by creepers to creep on people.
@editorkid and only used by virtually every photo app. And most operating systems now too.
@curtise I like the date as it appears on the picture. I'm an old fart who is still living in the last century. The EXIF thingy you refer to is way out of my league. But thanks for the info. Maybe some day I'll figure it out and will be able to see when I took a bunch of older pictures.
My go to cup at work. It says "Get back to work!" in the bottom.
Currently filled with Yerba Mate with a few empty cardamom pods
At home it's vintage 1960's mugs - bone china for sipping, Pyrex/Fire King for quick drinking
I realize I am late to the party with this post, but this is my goto mug at work:
And this is my goto mug at home:
This is my coffee mug at work:
One of my favorite gifts!
@dashcloud that is awesome, it just looks like its duct tape?
@thismyusername Yep!
i have this on a coffee mug
and on a tshirt
http://www.teefury.com/my-blood-type
And a ton of others that I vary, i like coffee mugs
My most functional one is a promotional mug I got while working a 2 year stint at a pharmaceutical marketing company. It's not much to look at, but is so well insulated that my coffee stays hot so much longer that any other (outside of a contigo or something).
This one:
Replaced This One:
which holds a full pint...
Just got it like a week ago. Already my favorite!!!
At home, just a nicely glazed one that's a pretty shade of blue. It's just oversized enough.
At work this one:
From this Kickstarter:
Get it? scalable vector graphics... lul.
@katylava - I do :D
(without even knowing what vector graphics are)
@katylava but but but.. Is that banana for scale???
Because: caffeine overdose!
