@cengland0 Found mine of a shelf, they were coated in dust that didn’t want to just blow off. Don’t know how many years it’s been since I touched them.
@blaineg Did you get the new ones yet? Wonder how much smaller they really are. Also, I understand the magnets are not as strong on the newer ones – for safety purposes.
Here’s a nice video comparison that gives you a sense of how ridiculously tiny these are compared to the original Buckyballs. The ones in the video are Zen Magnets and “Compliance Magnets” but they’re the same size as Buckyballs and Speks, respectively.
Thirty bucks? I’ll just take apart some SAS drives and injure my fingers with the magnets I find. Injured fingers means I can’t buy dumb Meh merch. Win-win!
I ride a motorcycle and I’m always looking for good mobile anti-asshole munitions. I wonder if it would be worth it to buy these just to have some nice magnet hand grenades. Imagine the damage these could do to the hood of a freshly-waxed BMW whose driver couldn’t give a shit less whether you live or die–removing them alone seems like it would be terrifically destructive to almost a paint job. I wonder if matte or metal would be worse.
@dvermilion Nah. I have proper sized ones, they’re easy to just pull apart, and that’s between two magnets. The would either ricochet completely, or just be plucked off easily.
How about paintballs?
I bought some actual Zen Magnets for an xmas gift, it went over really well. Not much more than 2 of these, and probably more magnet, with larger size.
@djslack Way to actually make me read the dang write-up. That’s equivalent to saying “There’s an Easter egg in the write up… and I’m not telling you where!” I assume you’re talking about both “you need other things things” and the unnecessary comma in “Now you can choose between 6 cool matte colors, and 3 metallic varieties.” Anything other Easter eggs I’m not seeing?
(Wup, before hitting “Say it” I see the “learning new cooking techniques as a go” in the first 'graph. Double dang it, now you’re making me read it twice, and even more closely!
Ok, and an “and and” in the second ¶.
And although, on second read, the repeated use of infinitives (“I love to read the comments … or to follow a…”) when gerunds would sound more natural, I’m going to let stand, as a valid stylistic choice, I mean rut that the first sentence got the writer into. At least they stay parallel in construction.
@AbdiViklas either you or Grammarly hit up the write-up this morning. It has dramatically improved. But there’s a bonus Easter egg in the bullet points.
@AbdiViklas@djslack I like to think @dseanadams puts then in the write-ups just to make people twitch, but it happens too much for them to be a one of mistake.
@dseanadams if only you could get one of those volunteers in sequence before posting…
I would totally do that for you unless it meant I could no longer purchase from Meh. If that were the case, I’d need a little insight into how Trackr-heavy the future would be to decide.
@AbdiViklas I will grant you a like because I oftentimes “live-tweet” the progress of something in a comment and I feel it would be disingenuous to omit the process that led me to my conclusion.
FINALLY!! These have been released in grape, cinnamon, mint, raspberry, blueberry, strawberry, lime, vanilla and what I can only guess is mocha or bacon. I can’t wait to try them out!
I have the regular chrome/silver ones and I love them. However, this price seems high for how small they are. I really doubt I paid this much for them last time.
EDIT: Actually they were 2 for $24 last time. That must have been before I moved across the country, bought a house, a car, and had a kid on the way.
Yeah, but these aren’t great BIG balls like the ones cengland0 has on his mantel. These are teeny-tiny LITTLE-BITTY balls!! 2.5mm is almost-but-not-quite 1/10th of an inch. Soooo…10x 10=100 of these little balls fits in 1 square inch. 10 teeny-tiny balls high makes a 2-1/2 inch cube of tiny balls. So 1024 teeny-tiny balls only makes a cube about the size of the short dimension of a credit card, with 2 dozen teeny-tiny balls left over. For $29??? (PLUS s/h for me). I don’t THINK so!!! Meh to the nth+1 power!
@drz you somehow grew a lot moving into the third dimension.
A single set of these (512 balls) makes a cube just over 3/4" on a side. Two sets gets you a cube about an inch per side and a few balls left over. You’d need (I think) something like 32 sets to get yourself a two and a half inch cube and you’d have a few left over.
Great idea: put the ceiling fan on a seasonally inappropriate setting, remove the pull chain and replace with a chain of these little bastards. Watch as hijinks ensue.

Too much work
i assume a layer of color glaze make them weaker, like OG painted buckies?
I still have my set of Bucky Balls.
Here they are on my extremely dusty mantle.
@cengland0 so it appears your balls have sat unattended on a dusty mantle. Surprised they are not blue
@tinamarie1974 Especially the unopened ones that have never been played with.
@cengland0 Found mine of a shelf, they were coated in dust that didn’t want to just blow off. Don’t know how many years it’s been since I touched them.
So why did I buy more?
@blaineg Did you get the new ones yet? Wonder how much smaller they really are. Also, I understand the magnets are not as strong on the newer ones – for safety purposes.
I’ve always got something I can idly fiddle with.
can a magnet flux index of less than 30 power a capacitor? asking for a friend with a delorean.

Start at the 0:54 mark.
@The_Tim thanks for showing this. I was going to buy this until I saw how small these are.
@The_Tim They showed up yesterday, and even having read the specs on the Speks, I was astounded at how tiny they are.

Not a very attractive deal

@dvermilion I’m pretty sure pocket change works. Bonus: it costs just pennies per throw.
I don’t want to run the risk of sending mixed messages

@dvermilion please dont
@username ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) i won’t if you give me your @username
@dvermilion These are so tiny, they’d never be noticed.
To weak to stick on the plate in my head.
@heartny oooh A+ for effort!
You know what else you could idly fiddle with? Grammarly.com. Or at least giving the write-up a once over before sending it to post.

@AbdiViklas @djslack @therealjrn Sure. Let’s go with that.
To be fair, though, there’s no need to proof things too much when I have so many volunteer copy editors!
@AbdiViklas @djslack @dseanadams
I said “one of mistake” one of mistake…
@AbdiViklas @djslack @therealjrn
Welcome… brother!

I want these, but not at this price…
Are these strong enough to pinch my intestines together?
I’d hate to swallow them and have them pass right through.

Awesome fresh candy colors! Great gift for your friend with that kid you don’t like.
Most of these types of magnets have been recalled for safety reasons.

Bucky Balls. Had them for years. Got banned, repaint, voila! Not bucky balls (but they are), same fun.

Ridiculously small. DON’T Buy.
@McLiney The photos on the product page had a gif of them in someone’s hands. What were you expecting?
I guess they were a success. They arrived yesterday, and SWMBO asked what they were. I told her “magnets, to fiddle with.”
She surprised me by saying: “Oh, you got a set for me too? Thanks, you know I like to fiddle with stuff.” And she absconded with the purple set.
Two for Tuesday fail. I only got one set.
@blaineg Ahh, nice. A woman who fiddles.
My kids stole mine. Waiting for them to go on sale again so I can have my toy back.
@John137 Ta Da
Sister site morningsave.com has them. Click on the picture for the sale.
