I guess I completely forgot about Girl Scout cookies this year because of coronavirus you’ll see them out and about in front of the grocery stores and this morning the stores unless he just didn’t think about that so I wound up not eating any
@chienfou@f00l Around here I haven’t seen any, just as well. A couple of years ago some "smart cookies " (hardeehar) set up their stands outside of the pot shops. They made a lot of sales!
@Kyeh
Genius!
Other than the fact that the granddaughter is a GS and there’s the altruistic side of it, Aldi sells ‘knock-off’ versions of some of the cookies (Tagalong and Samoas for sure) that are really good and about $1 a box (plus available all year long).
@Kyeh
They are a recently new addition to our retail landscape locally. I now have 4 within about 35 miles of my house with the closest being less than 20 miles away. They are an incidental stop when we go to the ‘big city’ for other things. I never go in unless I have at least 3+ time critical stops to make since it is about 32 miles to Montgomery from here. The next shop on my wish list is a Trader Joe’s.
@Bandrik@chienfou Well, if it’s not a costume, he’s the largest Blue Jay I’ve ever seen. Speaking of owls, the ones I was watching on the owl cam last year really liked bunnies.
Roasted peeps are great! The sugar on the outside gets a nice caramelized flavor like crème brûlée and the inside is all melty. Yum!
The sour watermelon are really good roasted, stale, or fresh.
@njfan@sammydog01
Waiting to go to Dollartree 'til after Easter. Need a few plastic eggs to put in the nesting boxes to encourage the hens to lay there instead of in the corners of the coop. Should be half price that Monday or Tuesday (4/5-6)
Anybody have a way to speed up the stale process of peeps? I hate waiting for them to get stale and we have tons of plants in our house so it takes forever.
@RiotDemon@Star2236 I was mildly horrified by the armada of blue peeps on that conveyor belt. It looks like Dalek preparations for the end of the universe in some Doctor Who episode.
Some of us were trying to be good.
@f00l So you’ve made it through Girl Scout Cookie season unscathed?
@Kyeh

@f00l I haven’t seen them being sold either so I’ve dodged that temptation. I did just find some paczki at the grocery store tonight though!
@f00l @Kyeh
Local Sam’s had a table out front with one girl and a couple of adults manning it today…

@chienfou I wish we had Aldi’s here!

Bunnies are better – they get perfectly stale more uniformly.
@katbyter The chicks are more fun to bite the heads off.
I agree that stale Peeps are the best Peeps.
This makes me happy
Got my peeps right here.
@Bandrik Wow, fabulous costume!
@Kyeh Thank you!
@Bandrik @Kyeh
what made you sure it was a costume??
I’ve had owls eat my baby chicks before!
@Bandrik @chienfou Well, if it’s not a costume, he’s the largest Blue Jay I’ve ever seen. Speaking of owls, the ones I was watching on the owl cam last year really liked bunnies.
@Kyeh
Hugh Hefner reincarnated?
@chienfou Umm, liked to bring them back to the nest and feed them to the owlets - it could be a little gruesome sometimes.
@Kyeh
Oh, I see. HH took his bunnies back to his nest for his personal use!
Peepza
@heartny The hot tamale ones might be good for that.
@heartny @Kyeh
I can’t see those being good for anything!! YUCKA!
Roasted peeps are great! The sugar on the outside gets a nice caramelized flavor like crème brûlée and the inside is all melty. Yum!

@callow
Wow… never thought of that. Might creep out the grandkids though…
If anyone is looking for some, I saw them in Dollar Tree over the weekend.
@njfan I bought some at the grocery store. They’re one of my favorites.

I was at the grocery store last night looking at them but I didn’t see the cotton candy flavor, I defiantly would have bough those.

@Star2236 open the bag?

@Star2236 As for drying, maybe putting them in a ziplock bag with a bunch of uncooked dry rice might do the trick. Sort of like a cell phone.
@mehcuda67 @Star2236 That sounds like a very clever idea!
@Star2236 open one end of the package. Put it on top of the fridge
My daughter’s favorite slippers:
@sammydog01 So cute!
@heartny Adorable!
@PocketBrain
that’s genius!
I saw Fruit Punch peeps and Chocolate Pudding flavored Bunnies at Walmart today
Made Peeps vodka one year. Kinda fun drink, but the eyeballs floating around in the jar were a bit creepy!
@chienfou did you really? That sounds pretty fun. I may try it.
@moonhat
yep, sure did. Wasn’t too bad as a one-off thing done on a lark…
@chienfou @moonhat You put a lark in vodka?!
@mehcuda67 @moonhat
No, I had to give up… Too hard to get the lid on before the little bastard slashed it all out!
