HP GP2-0005/6305 Desktop PC with AMD A4 Processor, 8GB RAM, and 2TB Hard Drive (Refurbished)
Fortified against snail-like load times and passive-aggressive IT guys, this PC tower is the digital equivalent of a medieval fortress. In addition to its massive hard drive, the tower packs an ultra-fast processor that, along with 8GB of system memory, supports multitasking with apps, programs, and a browser.
Ample Storage Space
A spacious hard drive offers plenty of room for large computer programs, saved game files, and multimedia storage. A single terabyte (TB) can hold up to 17,000 hours of music—enough to play your library nonstop for almost two years without ever repeating a song—or 310,000 photographs, the equivalent of one photo every hour, every day, for more than 35 years.
Make Your Own DVDs
The integrated DVD-RW optical drive not only plays discs from your personal collection, but writes them as well, perfect for when you need to back up large files and when you want to make extra copies of a loved one’s dance recital.
Speedy Data Transfers with USB 3.0
A USB 3.0 SuperSpeed port transfers files to and from your computer at more than 10 times the speed of USB 2.0, which is especially helpful when you have a gigantic project on a flash drive, or you want to backup all of your files to an external hard drive. If your connected device uses USB 2.0, the port can still move bits and bytes with no sweat at 2.0 speeds, thanks to its backwards compatibility.

There’s nothing exciting about PCs any more unless you’re spending big bucks on a VR gaming rig. Pretty much any computer you buy these days will be fine for what you’re doing. This one looks like a decent buy. Most cheap computers will skimp on the RAM, but 8 GB is a respectable amount.
@SSteve My new surface pro 4 I got from work is pretty exciting.
@ACraigL I had desktops in mind when I wrote that. All the fun stuff is happening in the tablet-esque world.
@SSteve Totally. But given that it’s a full i7 it can be considered a desktop replacement. Just sayin’. But not cheap, by any means.
@ACraigL the term ‘desktop replacement’ is a meaningless marketing term, having an i7 or not doesn’t really come into play. Think about it, what does ‘desktop replacement’ even mean? That it can do ‘everything’ a desktop can? What are we defining as a desktop? Where is the line drawn in terms of specs and capabilities?
The Surface Pro 4 is a cool machine, to be certain, I’ve been a big fan of the Surface Pro line since it showed up, I am actually even envious that you have one. With that said, at the end of the day it is very much a tablet and subject to the same limitations as any other device in that form factor. The biggest item of note is that the mobile i7 in your Surface is nowhere near a desktop i7, the desktop i7s are quad cores with two threads apeice, mobile i7s are dual cores with two threads apeice.
umm do you mind buying used?
the processor in that desktop from groupon is so slow, there are ultrathin laptops that preform better
if your budget is that low, i would buy a used desktop like this one

@communist I agree with the processor, AMD is crap and now you’re looking to purchase outdated crap. I would look around. I believe you can do better.
I have learned when it says HP on the outside, the odds are not very good that it will be great on the inside.
…but there are always exceptions (aka the reverse lemon).
@thismyusername
I have it from a very reliable source that HP is generally the best brand for affordable PCs. Of course, custom built and high-end gaming PCs, such as Alienware, are generally better.
@thismyusername I’ve been mighty pleased with the higher-end mobile workstations (Elitebook & ZBook) from HP
@thismyusername I’ve owned several HP’s and they’ve been workhorses. You just have to choose wisely per the internals when buying. As it is, I was due and I currently have a pile of components sitting upstairs to build my new pc. I5-6600k build.
*except for the HP touchpad… that thing is still kicking.
@DVDBZN who’s your source? HP hasn’t topped that list in quite some time from what I’ve seen. Dell and Lenovo have been trading blows in recent years (more’s the pity as I’m not especially fans of either) – given my preference and budget willing I’d take ASUS over all three based on their reputation as a board manufacturer alone.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card so don’t expect to do any gaming, but you don’t seem to be looking to do that.
The only bad thing about this is that it only has a single VGA video output. Although VGA is good enough, DVI and HDMI would have been preferred, and at least a second one in order to run a dual monitor setup.
Decidedly not based on the fact that Walmart sold these for $176: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Refurbished-HP-6305-SFF-Desktop-PC-with-AMD-A4-5300B-Processor-8GB-Memory-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-7-Professional-Monitor-Not-Included/49333480
That computer isn’t worth $787.60, don’t buy the hype. That might have been the list price when new but that was long ago.
communist-thank you. Great idea! Buying used fits my limited needs and budget. Bidding on one now on Ebay. HP i5. Seller has great feedback and return policy. And my thanks for the other helpful replies.
@dhackle also wanted to
thank @communist for the suggestion. Found some great deals.
I have also found some great deals on Amazon for used/refurbished computers. An Apple user here and the current Apple line-up is a bit long in the tooth, imho, making the e-bay/Amazon used sellers very appealing.
