But wait a minute... apple users can't wear something that says Oregon Scientific....not unless a teenage pop star wears it and tweets about it first...
Is there a monochromatic Beats case for this or something?
What does Oregon Scientific not understand about marketing? You're going to sell so-so products, better have an Android app. Going to sell slightly-better products at outrageous prices - then you can go Apple only.
@ergomeh OS always tried to be kinda like Sharper Image (the old version), but with a pseudo-scientific or educational slant. But they go to China and slap their name on stuff that seems to fit their needs just like everyone else.
As an avid iPhone owning, iPad browsing fitness nut I have to say I really love my Oregon Scientific Smart Watch Trainer SE900!!!! I love how I can go jogging then do some yoga, then get a smoothie, then jog some more, all the while I know the Oregon Scientific Smart Watch Trainer SE900 is keeping tabs on my movements!!!!
I got 2 in black and of course I got the VMP... can't beat the value!!!!!!!!!!!
@FroodyFrog Given the seamless upgrading from my 521 to the 635 to the 640, I have to say they're quite compatible with each other.
(I hope moreso that you saw my comment as a throwback to the days when Windows compatability was the norm and Mac compatibility was always questioned.)
@conandlibrarian Okay, I am biting. My fat ass needs to finally begin swimming, like I promised myself I would nearly two years ago. Luckily, this is so cheap I will not get mad if it gets ruined in the pool.
@rlesueur none of the above...kid needs alarm and stop watch, as well as water resistance, for lifeguard job this summer.. She loved the OS watches they sold last year on Meh, but I doubt she knows where they are this year! Almost didn't buy because of apple bias ..bleck....
I was totally in with those 5-buck Oregon Scientific Talking Clock Radios from Meh. That huge display is amazing even if the way they scream (the "talking" part) at us is much less cool.
But I'm not quite there yet with these step-watches.
@RedOak When did they sell those??? I've been looking for a nice, cheap clock radio. The cell phone works fine, even better in some ways, but it's just not the same!
I'm totally on board with the "get a different fitness specific band/watch just for exercise and wear your nice smart watch the rest of the time" position. I'm even on board with it not having apps and it's lap timer working like a 1980s Timex Ironman. But if I'm getting a watch to wear during exercise only, it sure as hell better have a well functioning heart rate monitor. If not, you might as well use any non smart watch or pedometer.
It's waterproof-ish and counts laps. I'll use it to check and see if my Speedo Shine counts laps correctly. Except you aren't supposed to push the buttons if it's wet.
Oregon Scientific has the worst customer service. If it breaks, you might as well throw it away. Most of the time their customer service won't even get back with you. Buyer beware.
Wait...did you actually sell out on the Fagors? Thought I'd have until 9AM. After I saw this watch I really knew I wanted that juicer. Let me know if you have one for me. Until then I will have to masticate without it. Thanks.
middle button till you see connect then top button
middle button until you see “update system” then top button
various presses confirming overwrite, update, start etc
once it’s ready on the watch goto the app and click the sync tab and then click the “connect with watch” button it will then slowly update, the watch flashes between “please wait” and “system update” while the bar on the app moves from left to right.
Once it has uploaded the firmware the the app changes back to “connect with watch” and the watch itself changes to “please wait” until it is done and then it reverts to the clock mode.
I couldn’t ever get it to “update profiles” before the firmware update, after the update it seems to update them. I never paired the device, it seems the app just takes control of the bluetooth and talks to it that way, I don’t think I see the watch in my list of paired devices either. My iphone is a 6s.
@thismyusername Thanks! I now have the firmware updated and still have no idea how to use it. The print in the manual is tiny. So I will use it as a waterproof watch. I had to set the time manually too. I would have thought that the update would set the time from my phone, but no. Still worth 12 bucks.
@sammydog01 I loaded the “activity”, the “stopwatch” and the “world clock”… I don’t think this quite up to fitbit standard but yea it seems like a water proof watch at the worst
Have yet to app. Great watch for casual rugged wear. 12 bucks, got two. I am traveling to the woodlands in Dover and to the Philippines this year. Yay water-resistant.
Watch me not buy this
@mehhead it's about time.
@mfladd

@FroodyFrog does this clear things up?
It may be almost useless, but at least it's ugly.
@warpedrotors Hey, hey, I may be ugly and hate-filled, but I... um, what was the third thing you said?
@stoopkid I only ever say two things.
But wait a minute... apple users can't wear something that says Oregon Scientific....not unless a teenage pop star wears it and tweets about it first...

@cshillaber
I think we should change the website name from meh .com to WOOHOO .COM
Windows phone compatible?
/s
@narfcake
First let's wait for Windows Phones to be compatible with Windows Phones.
(This possibly makes sense. Not sure. It's the weekend, and I won't read this clearly until Monday at the earliest.)
@FroodyFrog Given the seamless upgrading from my 521 to the 635 to the 640, I have to say they're quite compatible with each other.
(I hope moreso that you saw my comment as a throwback to the days when Windows compatability was the norm and Mac compatibility was always questioned.)
@narfcake
For the second part of your post - yes.
For the first part - that wasn't exactly the direction I was headed.
@FroodyFrog Then the "not sure" part applies.
It's Ore-gun. Not o-rhee-gan, or or-I-gone.
@skymeat Organ? Origami? Oregano?
Funny thing is... I have a Jawbone Up3... which I have an alarm set... for 9pm... to remind me... about Meh.
@haydesigner I have an Up24 set to midnight. It was the cheapest way to get a vibrating alarm.
I kind of want this...
@conandlibrarian Okay, I am biting. My fat ass needs to finally begin swimming, like I promised myself I would nearly two years ago. Luckily, this is so cheap I will not get mad if it gets ruined in the pool.
@conandlibrarian I kind of don't....
@conandlibrarian My fat ass is trying that right now. If you decide you like swimming I recommend you get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Misfit-Wearables-Speedo-Fitness-Tracker/dp/B0142FFLFM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463353914&sr=8-1&keywords=speedo+shine
and one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Underwater-Player-Black-Acid-Green/dp/B0169RSNPG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463353972&sr=8-1&keywords=finis+duo
The mp3 player really makes a difference for me. I listen to books on tape.
Probably not baby arm compatible. I'm out.
I'm confused by the 23 people who have already bought this. I demand these individuals explain themselves.
@rlesueur 23 slaves to apple
@rlesueur, White Elephant gifts?
(That's all I got, sorrys.)
@rlesueur The Apple Watch doesn't work with an iPhone 4s.
@rlesueur none of the above...kid needs alarm and stop watch, as well as water resistance, for lifeguard job this summer.. She loved the OS watches they sold last year on Meh, but I doubt she knows where they are this year! Almost didn't buy because of apple bias ..bleck....
@sligett and this watch doesn't work with any phone
@mikibell Your reason is the first one that actually makes sense
This may be the biggest meh since day zero......
@somf69 Meh sold a shirt on day zero. That's WAY BETTER than this shit!
@narfcake The shirt was great, this appears to be shit, just my own thought
I've had other Oregon Scientific products that have lasted for many years.
Smart Watch Trainer? If I buy it, will it train my dumb watch Rocky-style to be smart?
Only works with iPhone. Screw you ghost of Steve Jobs.
"Watch out" - well not yet as still have some for sale!
@cpierce almost exactly a year ago. And as I recall they sold out pretty quickly. https://meh.com/deals/oregon-scientific-talking-alarm-clock
@RedOak Dang, before I joined! Oh well, I need an AM radio to listen to sportsball games anyway.
@cpierce AM is for sportsball games, while FM is for listening to five man electric bands.
Oh no, this cheapo "smart watch" isn't compatible with my Android phone! Guess I'll have to wear something that isn't crap
How well does this work as a cheap $12 time telling device?
@dalekjoe
Horrendously I'd imagine; there's no speaker on it to tell you the time.
@FroodyFrog Well, crap. Oh, well. I found a basic $12 watch for $6 on Amazon anyway.
I'd have gone for this one, because you know, maybe I'll try it out on my bike or whatever, but it's just too ugly.
This coming from a guy who routinely wears meh t-shirts.
I'd take one of those purses over this.
Look ma, no hands
Total pass - horrible reviews too

@frozenokie It appears to have a heart rate monitor. Well functioning I don't know.
@frozenokie http://www.oregonscientificstore.com/p-47-oregon-scientific-se900b-ssmart-watch-trainer-onyx.aspx
It's waterproof-ish and counts laps. I'll use it to check and see if my Speedo Shine counts laps correctly. Except you aren't supposed to push the buttons if it's wet.
relaxed-mucky-nose. I refuse to look that up.
Oregon Scientific has the worst customer service. If it breaks, you might as well throw it away. Most of the time their customer service won't even get back with you. Buyer beware.
@aarond12 For 12 bucks who cares
Hmm
nah
No gon no gun no watch no thanks
Only (kinda) works with a freekin' iPhone??? P-A-S-S
Meh AF even if it did work with Android like anything that isn't a piece of crap should.
@Dizavid You're free to say "as fuck" here, y'know.
@narfcake Sure, but I don't always want to break out the big guns.
Does this have a vibrating alarm?
@dschaus13 No, that's an Alarm Cock. This is a smart watch.
Oregon Scientific? Isn't that an oxymoron like seriously funny, jumbo shrimp, or Microsoft Works?
I'm in for two. Not trying to take my fit bit too the Philippines. Yay water resisting abilities.
i fucken clicked update on the watch, how do i cancel?

@HawkgirlDC 6 AM
Schmehdendroide...
I would expect this kind of OS discrimination from woot. But Meh? They are the hard working people that definite..... nevermind.
http://ssmart.oregonscientific.com/index.asp They either haven't updated their website or they haven't updated their app.
@cmrk3 the App Store says the app was updated in September, IOS9 9 fix. Yes they used two nines just like they use two s's in ssmart.
Does anyone know how to update the firmware on this thing?
@sammydog01 here is how I did it:
make sure the app (this is the app I got https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ssmart-watch/id574691312?mt=8 )is on the iphone then:
once it’s ready on the watch goto the app and click the sync tab and then click the “connect with watch” button it will then slowly update, the watch flashes between “please wait” and “system update” while the bar on the app moves from left to right.
Once it has uploaded the firmware the the app changes back to “connect with watch” and the watch itself changes to “please wait” until it is done and then it reverts to the clock mode.

@sammydog01 I loaded the “activity”, the “stopwatch” and the “world clock”… I don’t think this quite up to fitbit standard but yea it seems like a water proof watch at the worst
Come on people, did anyone get this thing to work with an iphone? Is it just me?
This thing wants to use location services when installing the “Fishing” profile… I fear oregon scientific is trying to steal our secret fishing spots.
Have yet to app. Great watch for casual rugged wear. 12 bucks, got two. I am traveling to the woodlands in Dover and to the Philippines this year. Yay water-resistant.
i pressed update, now its broken…
for those who bought it, DO NOT UPDATE IT!!!
@bacon4jason I sent an email to Oregon Scientific about the firmware update and got a response in a couple of days. You might want to contact them.
