@dis_member To die, to sleep. To sleep, perchance to dream—ay, there's the rub,. For in that sleep of death what dreams may come. When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,.
@editorkid RadioShack is dying. In the future, compare parts prices with Digikey.com or ebay. No part in that is even worth a dollar, unless you want an exact match for the LCD or speaker. Obsolete old stock can get pretty expensive.
I love boring 1980s LCDs! Low power consumption, generally good contrast, visibility in a wider range of conditions (outside)… I would love a device like a TRS-80 (RIP) Model 100, or a Cambridge Z88, but with a modern ARM processor and Linux.
@hamjudo It's something I've considered cobbling together, and with the $35 B version 2, would make for a pretty capable device. Though the lower power consumption of the A+ could well be advantageous. Driving that display is the part that is completely daunting to me. I have a Z88 with a largely busted display, though, so I guess very little harm can come of that.
@dvillalo I predict you shall have death before you own an Oregon Scientific weather radio.
Death
@2many2no
@The_Baron Strange show, but great death metal. Who would've thought the guys behind Home Movies would turn into Metalocalypse?
@2many2no One song to rule them all
@jsh139 Pirate metal
@2many2no there is only one true Death - right out of Detroit.
@cleverogre Holy crap, 70's Detroit punk. Fuck yeah.
@cleverogre @The_Baron if you haven't seen it, there's an amazing doc about them: http://drafthousefilms.com/film/a-band-called-death
@JonT That is fantastic, I will have to watch it this weekend.
@JonT good find! now in my Netflix queue.
To die would be a grand adventure.

If you prefer diy to die, this thing is probably worth $10 for the parts.

@brhfl that would be cool. It would be enough to have an ARM R processor and the RT version of Linux.
@JasonKim Raspberry Pi model A+ is $20 quantity 1. There are libraries for driving LCD displays.
