October:: fall is in the air
1So. Today I realized it's not far from winter with a 7:00 temp of 37. Awesome right???? Well apparently not so great for foliage as it usually is weeks. It went from green trees to colors and falling practically overnight (few days ago) it's great for me. I hate the stupid tourists that stop in the middle of a 40 mph road to take a picture holding up traffic. But not so great for local businesses and economy. I saw a what's the worst thing about October haven't seen the best thing yet. (Or I'm fucking blind in which case email this to me close/delete the thread I'll move my comment over there.

Pumpkins! Alright, alright, I know the new trend is to hate any and everything that begins with a 'p' and ends with a 'kin', but I'm not talking about a loaf of pumpkin latte beer bread. I'm talking going to the pumpkin patch (waiting for the Great Pumpkin to arrive… oh, wait…), pulling off as many pumpkins as you can manage to cradle in your tiny arms, getting super itchy from grabbing their little spiny stems, weighing them, taking them home, cutting them in half, roasting them up, filling your fridge and freezer to their respective brims with fresh pumpkin 'purée', oiling and seasoning the seeds, roasting the seeds, and nibbling on them as you decide how much to save, how much to make soup with, how much to make dessert with, and how much to make sauce with.
…the seeds are in the oven right now… mmm…
@brhfl yes! Pumpkin cheesecake is a favorite here - and well pureed pumpkin will freeze really well!
@brhfl - You had me at roasted p-kin seeds.
@brhfl pumpkin things are totally fine. "pumpkin SPICE" things, which rarely contain pumpkin, usually suck.
there's a vegetarian food cart downtown on Broadway that sells roasted pumpkin and it's freaking great.
@Lotsofgoats I don't understand how anyone who loves real pumpkin anything can love pumpkin spice. That fake, chemical taste is disgusting.
@jaremelz pumpkin spice is usually just nutmeg and cinnamon and such, but often really shitty quality stuff. even just the difference between good cinnamon and the cassia you normally find labeled cinnamon is HUGE.
I've never run into artificial pumpkin flavor yet, thank goodness D:
@Lotsofgoats We used to make our coffee by putting a stick of good cinnamon in with the grounds. It is delicious.
It seems your fall already fellandnowyou'reintoearlyNovember. You must have blinked.
The wool blankets and winter coats are being aired out from storage. Soup stocks are being reviewed. Preliminary Thanksgiving menu options being discussed. Food Network is being contacted again to ask them for a new Thanksgiving Live show, and for past ones to be available on demand. McRibs are back at McDonalds, and fall custard flavors are available at Culvers! Furnace maintenance is next week. Cars are getting winter prepped. Pretty soon, Monopoly time at McDonalds too.
I like Fall.
@duodec Wait, McRibs are back? They're not here yet.
@duodec frozen custard? The egg shortage has taken a toll on frozen custard 'round here.
@nadroj Not at Culvers. Good stuff.
@OldCatLady Yep! They even advertised McRibs on TV a little bit.
