New Slash Command: /concerned
32We’ve got a new slash command. It’s a small one to turn /concerned
into the ಠ_ಠ emoticon.
More important than the command itself is the fact that is was coded by our own @woodhouse who’s now a contributor on our Mehdown project. Congrats to @woodhouse on his first code contribution, his first time using GitHub, and a nice little addition to our forum here.

@shawn
Can we get another / command?
I want
/ragequit
Instant logoff.
Even better if the person can’t log in again for 10 min or something.
PS forgot to say:
Thanks for this new one.
@f00l Yeah but rage quitters don’t really leave, they are compelled to see how much we miss them in a vain attempt to validate their rage.
@therealjrn
Exactly.
@therealjrn Yes, perhaps it logs them off, doesn’t let them log in for X minutes, and emails and texts them every followup message in the thread that made them rage quit…
@rprussell umm but then that would be: /rage-torture-me LOL. That would be humorous (and just returns for someone having a public temper tantrum) but if they knew that is what that command did they’d not use it. Not to mention then they’d troll the lot of us once they could get back on.
@f00l A friend of mine rage quit a board game Wednesday night and stormed off, leaving me stuck driving the other guy home when he was supposed to do it. After he left I said, “Well the box does say age 13 and up”. He’s 49 going on 10.
See @Barney, you are adulting just fine.
@f00l automated announce departure. Hmm, Irk would be meh.
@f00l Do we also need a whinequit ?
I kind of like the dual meaning. I think we could use it both ways and context will usually make it obvious. Or we can use it ambiguously on purpose to be funny.
You can always think of it as “concerned with your lack of judgement”. Though the face definitely looks worried to me… I think the original redditor messed it up for all of us.
Good job @woodhouse! As your sometime mentor I’m so proud.
@katylava I probably should have done more research on the “internet-approved” name for this face, but “concerned with your lack of judgement” was how I thought of it.
Ambiguity can be fun with these text faces

Nice goin’ @woodhouse!
I’m not

@woodhouse Congrats on figuring out how to code that…
One small detail though. ಠ_ಠ is usually used to express irritation or disapproval. Google claims that too (via urban dictionary, knowyourmeme, http://wrttn.me/30dbfd/…).
This might get confusing to have a different meaning here since being concerned can also imply concerned about someone in a good way vs being irritated with them…
As http://wrttn.me/30dbfd/ , which has a pretty extensive list, doesn’t list one for concerned (and with a brief search I couldn’t find one - although one might be out there in obscurity), perhaps there is an opportunity to go down in internet history as the inventor of one?
These eyebrows make the face look more concerned (the mouth shape helps too)
Maybe modify it that way for meaning what you want it to mean for that (and keep the way it is but change it to mean expressing disapproval or irritation)? Then everyone can use it/submit it in/to the appropriate places to get it noticed and you will then be
infamous and have credit now for 2 of them here (grin)Well that last paragraph was confusing and I ran out of time to edit
I meant
infamous world wide and on here (grin). I mean, not every day someone can invent a face that becomes accepted, standard use.@Kidsandliz @woodhouse’s definition (concerned) is the meaning I’ve always taken that face to be.
@Barney I have had it used on a meh forum aimed at me with the meaning of irritation when I accidentally posted (forgot to refresh the page so didn’t see it and thought cyber space had eaten it) the same request for help (to a meh employee) just an hour apart (which was a big woops on my part and they were justifiably irritated since known normal turn around is much longer than that).
@Barney I went back and forth between “concerned” and “disappointed”, but concerned seemed to fit best.
@woodhouse I wouldn’t change it, but then, I’m a failed adult. Oh, and I live in Kansas.
@Barney
ಠ_ಠ
@mikibell You are concerned I live In Kansas? Me too.
@Barney It is figuratively freezing here… so be glad you are there!!
@woodhouse I was just going by what the urban dictionary said (which is what I used the first time I ever saw that one) and since it was going to mean something different here, I re-looked it up to make sure I wasn’t wrong and found more places that listed disapprove as the meaning (and no alternative meaning that I saw).
I guess I will just have to remember that meh has a different meaning for it here that will be used by those who get there via “/” than I am used to and potentially a different meaning by those who used copy/paste to use that one.
Here are the ones from the websites I listed…
urban dictionary top two definitions
and the third site
@mikibell Yeah, we’re wearing our sweaters today, too. Only going to be 92 instead of 100.
@Barney It was 60 when I went out earlier!!! 60 in July!! Really do think I should be considering Christmas in July at this point!
@mikibell Maybe… but I also notice the back to school sales started today, or maybe it was yesterday… sigh.
@Kidsandliz now it’s gonna be /consproval
ಠ_ಠ
@Kidsandliz already done with back to school shopping – they need to get up earlier in the morning …
@woodhouse don’t you mean /confuseproval ?(grin)
@Kidsandliz
ಠ_ಠ
@Thumperchick so concerned or disapproving? (grin)
@Kidsandliz
/giphy let it go
@Kidsandliz - We can use any emoticon we wish to express whatever we wish. This expression is open to the interpretation of the one posting and those reading, not to some arbitrary “rule”.
So is this one:
(┛ಠ_ಠ)┛彡┻━┻
I support and enjoy the slash command feature here.
Wish there were a way to list them in these text boxes - as with the emoji option?
@Barney
ಠ_ಠ
Sorry about the Kansas thing.
@f00l It’s better than living in a state that begins in T and ends in S.
@Barney
ಠ_ಠ
“I feel your pain”.
Just saying’.
@Barney That’s great! Gov. Brownback now has a perfect excuse for cutting down on the budget for state government offices, especially if he can narrow down the line item to “utilities.”
@Barney regarding the “Let it go” reference you made: I am not the only one who agrees it already has a meaning and am not the only one who is arguing we should stick the accepted one - although I had already made my point and stopped posting by the time you posted.
Meh can do what they want - redefine something used differently elsewhere or not. Their choice as it is their website and we don’t have to be here. For communication clarity I hope they don’t do that since there are enough communication “mishaps” online due to lack of the other cues you get in face to face communication, without adding a deliberate point of confusion. But no doubt those of us who disagree with redefining something will survive and ask for clarification if we care to know which use is being used. As I said before, I have already made my point. We can agree to disagree.
@Kidsandliz - (゚ー゚) [cool]
(And thanks for the http://wrttn.me/30dbfd/ link!)
/dag nabbit
I agree with others. This isn’t a concerned face. It’s a pissed or disapproving face.
Yours is like these:
or
Whereas these are concerned faces:
@medz - I’d say it’s concerned about disapproving.
I Lve it!
Only slightly
ಠ_ಠ
that @woodhouse might be
ಠ_ಠ
about something of
ಠ_ಠ
/tableflip
@medz yes!!
@woodhouse - table flip!
@Thumperchick @medz (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
@Thumperchick @woodhouse @medz And then @mehbot comes and puts the table back?

Doesn’t look “concerned” to me, but if you say it is, it must be.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@therealjrn I was thinking that picture meant irritated
@Kidsandliz
I thought it meant the person posting had transfigured into a owl.
ಠ_ಠ
/image robocop i like it
/disapproval
Who votes to change it to
/disapproval
?
@RiotDemon Rereading this, I don’t see where @woodhouse asked for a vote on changing it.
@Barney @RiotDemon I’ll add my vote on to Barneys. So far, 2 votes in favor of renaming!

Wait, is there a /shrug? Did I miss that one?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
