YOU LIE! It’s a zero sided die!
@narfcake You’re a zero sided die
@lichme Whaaaa?
/image I’m here to break things
@narfcake It works that way by design!
@narfcake Looks like someone (?) misplaced and exit test in a loop.
@phendrick “an” not “and”
I’m actually really hoping my most recent (and in my opinion most useful) submission gets greenlit by @shawn, but it’s slightly more risky/involved.
@lichme It’s a good idea!
@brhfl
@lichme
I hope, too.
Come on @shawn! Approve whatever it is already!
@lichme I love the concept, but unfortunately we’re going to politely pass and hope you come up with other less risky/involved ideas.
@shawn
What fun you’re not.
@shawn I figured that was going to be the case, but it was worth a shot, and a fun project. Back to the drawing board.
@lichme care to share what it was?
@RiotDemon Sure. It was a /search command that returns back all historical sales from meh that contained the keyword. It linked to the sale, provided how many items were sold, and the date it was sold. Similar to the /woot command but for historical. It was also slightly cleaner since it linked the titles to the sales.
So I could have done
/search blue
for example, and got back a list of the bluetooth devices that were for sale at one point.The command itself works quite well, however the risk involved is that I had to create a limited API for this purpose to source the data. I’m one guy running a server on a VPS. I’m sure meh doesn’t want to source data from my box. I’m confident/hopeful that @shawn could implement this in the future with meh’s own data.
^^ And the sale price, forgot to include that
@lichme
You said VPS.
(And yes, I know what VPS stands for. )
@lichme I was wondering if the risk was simply relying on some rando’s API or if I was missing something bigger. Definitely was a good idea, though, when I saw the PR it felt like a no-brainer…

@brhfl Niiiiice.
I’d ask for a practical application of this command, but it’s Meh, so…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Possibilities are endless!
@DrunkCat - here’s your chance. Sorry for tricking you last time.
@lichme I didn’t get an email notification for whatever reason. Meh fuckin’ up.

/coinflip
Your coin got lost in the grass!
Not my day.
@f00l Logically not possible to roll 3.14 sided die, as the .14 of a side would just be smaller than the other sides, but it’s still a side. You also can’t roll a die half a time. You can however assign a fraction of a die as the face value with division.
/roll 2d5/10 --show
You rolled a total of 0.4 using the following 2 dice: [3, 1]
/roll 10d5/314 --show
You rolled a total of 0.09554140127388536 using the following 10 dice: [3, 4, 5, 5, 2, 4, 2, 2, 2, 1]
@lichme
Wow. You must not talk to @f00l often.
@lichme
It isn’t logically possible to roll a 3.141659 sided die in the real world?
Actually, it is. Someone good with tools could make such a die that would be perfectly tossable and rollable.
Please tell me how, in the real world, you would make and toss or roll a 0, 1, 2, or 3 sided die.
In fact, I’d like videos. ; )
Mathematically, and in terms of the possibilities of code, it is possible to code to do all of those things, given the right conceptual model.
But I was just messing with you. No worries. And I am quite happy over this new “/” command and thank all who worked on it. Make it as wonky as you want, I think it’s cool.
(I got pretty far on the path toward getting my PhD in pure mathematics, and taking lots of drugs, and seeing the Talking Heads and Fripp play live, as often as possible, once in another life, a long, long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. Sometimes I yield to the temptation to mess with stuff in the real world using those tricks.)
@f00l A pi sided die is as logical as counting a pi’s worth of bunnies.

@narfcake
Love bunnies but not for eating.
/youtube "count your blessings"
@narfcake @f00l
(Whatever the two of you do, DO NOT do a Google Image search for bunny pit.)
When do we get a
/rock-and-roll
Command?
@f00l More like we need a
/rickroll
@narfcake
/sex-and-drugs-and-rock-and-roll
/youtube it’s only rock and roll
/roll 3d100000
You rolled a total of 44119
I think I broke it; it stopped letting me save when I tried to edit it after trying to roll 3d1000000 and getting ‘something went terribly wrong’ (even after refreshing the page).
Still brings back good memories. On the GEnie information service back in the day, the RTCs (Round Table Conferences, aka chat rooms) had /ROL commands that used this same syntax.

@shawn
@lichme
In the help and the coding someone needs to specify positive integers only for # of rolls and # of sides.
Minimum # of sides of dice should be 4.
Minimum # of rolls should be 1.
Else, open the algorithm to fractions, real numbers, negative numbers, imaginary numbers, orders of infinity, etc, and see what happens.

@shawn since you’ve already stopped what you’re doing, can you fix the spacing on reply comments over at mediocre.com mobile site…If a reply has 3 stars the bottom of the 3 gets cut off on mobile. Thanks

/roll 2d10
You rolled a total of 12
/eightball isn’t 2d10 the same as 1d100?
You may rely on it
@Cerridwyn 2d10 gives you a max of 20, 1d100 is a max of 100. d10*d10 would be the same as 1d100
@lichme back in the day, if you were gaming with dice on a table, and you needed to roll a percentile dice, you rolled usually 2d20 because 20’s were cheaper than 10s, but if you could afford 10s you rolled 2d10 where the dice were 2 different colors. So for example, the black dice would be the ‘tens’ and the red dice would be the ‘ones’.
Shows my age and my pastimes, back when I would be the only female at the game table.
@Cerridwyn Not sure how much the sexism dates you, that shit is still alive and well in the gaming community! But at least percentile dice are an integral piece of an RPG dice cube now…
@brhfl back in the late 70s, early 80’s, when i was taking my toddler to gaming conventions, i was anomaly but there were a few others of us. When I would go into a shop where there we scheduled or pick up games, it would usually be me. I still have a few bags of dice I kept just cause.
My dice game of choice back then was the original versions of RuneQuest. Back before they were bought out buy WoTC? or whoever it was. Combat was much better than DnD and I liked the world system better as well. I was usually G.O.D. and we had a ball.
By the time she could fill out a character sheet, about 4, my daughter was playing with us, and played competitive magic for a few years in her late tweens early teens. She and her husband still game, mostly board games.
I eventually moved on line from BBS to MUD to Cybernations to all sorts of MMORPHs and at 61 I’m proud to be old enough to be the grandmother of many of the kids in the games while still having many my peers or older hanging in there.

well some work, i give up finding a combo that works
@Cerridwyn
I spent the better part of 5 years or so playing 2 MMORPGs.
Neither ended well.
The first one I don’t remember (read: I don’t want to say) what happened.
For the second one, I spent a long while focusing mainly on myself. Ended up becoming sort of friendly with the creator of the game in the game.
Ended up being invited to an extremely limited private beta server with incentives in the private server (which couldn’t be transferred to the main server).
Ended up joining a clan, became friendly with the head of the clan.
Shortly after joining, I quickly discovered their ‘rival’ clan.
They quickly didn’t like me.
Long story short: I was banned from the private server, had my accounts suspended a couple of times, dealt with A LOT of spam, and if you Google my username, you’ll find a lot of rude blog posts about me.
