Got one at Gamespot last night. We play our SNES version a lot more than I thought we would.
An unexpected huge improvement is the ability to save your game at any given moment - so those annoying challenges where you have to jump at exactly the right moment are far less frustrating, and it’s easier to just stop playing whenever instead of feeling like you have to play until the next save point.
@dave But… “Mom, I have to get to a save point!” Was the greatest excuse of all time. Sometimes worked, other times she would just hit the power button. We even convinced her we couldn’t pause the game sometimes. (more true nowadays)
@medz@Seeds The old ones didn’t have this ability. This is the new minis - they all let you create a save state wherever and whenever you want. It’s not super intuitive, but once you get the hang of it, it’s smooth enough.
Thank you! I wanted to get one for our house since they originally announced it. I just always kept missing it and refused to pay the ridiculous resale prices.
@Avalora Nintendo has declared war on the scalpers of these, finally, which is nice. Now if they only did it with their Amiibo market, life would be better.
My local Super Target had TEN (10) in their case yesterday, more of these or the Super NES Classics I’ve ever seen in one case at one time, so I picked one up to go with my existing Super NES Classic.
Nintendo really stepped up their anti-scalper game with the miniSNES’s and seems to have gone all in on the miniNES’s this time too. If you really wanted one, you could have gotten a miniSNES for some time. They were rare (but not impossible) around Christmas, but I’ve seen at least 2 in every electronic store around me for months.
All that said, should you feel 30 games isn’t enough for you, I recommend wandering over to
. The mods there have developed a super easy to use program that allows you to put many more games on your system. My miniSNES has a hundred something SNES and NES games currently and I could put a lot more on if I wanted. It’s almost easier than dragging and dropping to modify.
Thanks for posting. I’ve alerted my siblings so they’ll stop asking to borrow mine
@capguncowboy but, yours is free.
@caffeine_dude I bought an extra one anyway
/giphy oh well
Thanks! Picked one up. Not sure why as I did a Raspberry Pi thing and never use that, but it seemed like the right thing to do.
Amazon too:

EDIT: 100% claimed. That was fast!
I built my own with a raspberry Pi emulator for about the same price, but I used a box for the console so it stores all of the controllers

@dave @medz As long as you don’t need to hold down reset while turning the power off…
@Seeds I guess I didn’t read manuals back then. Never knew about this.
@medz It was just for one zelda game that I remember. I lost all my progress on the second quest twice from people shutting it off wrong
