WHAT’S INCLUDED?
9x Mystery Foods
Seriously, WTF???
@llangley 9 foods, 402 pieces! See how many go in! Guess how many come out!
Seeing as how I couldn’t stand 65% of the past food offerings on Meh… I think I’ll pass.
With
long gonemystery expiration dates too I’d imagine…The concept of getting the leftover crap that even meh-tizens won’t eat terrifies me.
@DLPanther but if we do get sick from eating it, we know who to BLAME!
@DLPanther hummus, biscotti galore, all expired or close. Ramen is about the best possibility imo
So chances are it will be stuff I don’t like. Donate it? Nope, the local food pantry doesn’t take anything expired. Which is sad because it’s still okay food.
@ironcheftoni
Wait for the A-meh-rican exchange topic to show up here.
@ironcheftoni @pakopako it’s also a way to get rid of a bunch of TrackRs
@lonocat @pakopako Actually, a friend mine has started a mosaic art project using trackrs. I can’t wait to see what he is going to come up with for mine contribution. I think I gave him about 60.
@ironcheftoni @pakopako
First rule of meh exchange, only give stuff you would want to receive. Nobody wants your leftover, expired, nasty food from a mystery bundle you know you shouldn’t have bought in the first place.
@ironcheftoni
Pretty picky for beggars.
But, if it’s good enough for me, then it should be good enough for those people who come to pick it up, driving later model cars than mine.
Then there’s: https://patch.com/california/san-francisco/san-francisco-woman-continues-feed-homeless
@phendrick yeah, the lady that started the pantry has her reasons. When she was down in her luck, she went to apply for food stamps. She was rejected. Instead, they gave her a grocery bag of dented cans and expired food. She said it was a humiliating experience and did not want anyone else to go through that.
There is another pantry across town that i volunteered with once. They will take expired food if it’s within a few months. They have a prepared box of food they give clients but then they tell them that they can take as much as they want from the expired shelves. A few rake advantage of it depending on how many people they need to feed at their house.
@ironcheftoni
That’s a great idea, imo.
@ironcheftoni @phendrick The informal food bank I started and run at a once a month free clinic (I stock it with food people don’t want from the food boxes they get once a month in the apartment I live in) I also have two groups of tables - ones they choose from the “current stuff” and I make sure no one takes all of it (I have to ration the meat and cheese as there is not enough to go around and some would take all of it), and then the “expired” table where they can take what they want. We all know canned goods are good for a long time.
Got mine in today, and here’s what’s in it (mostly stuff that’s on sale on Sidedeal already):
6x Nonni’s Pumpkin Spice biscotti (8/box)
2x Verb Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup caffinated energy bars (16/box)
2x Offlimits Flex Cinnamon cereal
2x Offlimits Spark Strawberry cereal
4x Quantum Energy Square (Coconut Almond Chocolate Chip) (8/box)
4x Quantum Energy Square (Caffe Mocha Almond Chip) (8/box)
6x Michel & Augustin Buttery French Shortbread Cookie Squares (Milk Chocolate and Melty Caramel( (15/bag)
6x RunGum (Wintergreen) (24/box)
20 Snack Yums (Chocolate Chip) (single serving bags)
Side note: The biscotti is good, the energy bars are … oaky. The energy squares are -not- good (at least, not the cafee mocha almond chip ones) and the cookie squares and Snack Yums are both good.
@shinino Those shortbread squares are pretty tasty
@shinino that doesn’t sound like it was worth $40 much less $400.
@shinino
Maybe those belong over at Casemates…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@shinino Pretty much ditto for mine, even matching your counts, except that there were 23 cookie bags in mine. But several items including two cereal boxes & the Nonni box had been sliced (by box cutters?). Hope contents are OK.
Liked the shortbread squares and biscotti enough to have already repeated orders of those, so i’m fine with those in my “mystery” box, but had deliberately passed on all else when it had been originally for sale. Guess i’ll get to try them all anyway now.
Memo to self: Self, skip the food mystery box next time; too much of a crap shoot.
@shinino oof, thank you for your sacrifice.
@shinino Thanks for your list. Valued this based on SideDeal prices yesterday. $133.00. Big hitter were the 8 boxes of Quantum EnergyBars. SideDeal total price $64.00
Had 7 Snack Yum bags open with failed package seams. Got even more anal and looked at expiration dates.

@agnesnutter Shipping box is 17x17x17"
@agnesnutter Takes a big and somewhat heavy box for them to get rid of that much unwanted “food” from their warehouse inventory (and still make some money from it).
