2 dogs
14 and 16 years
Probably not long for this world
One is deaf, blind and toothless
The other has to eat special food to prevent kidney stones. He also has a bum hip joint.
Getting old sucks but I think they are still enjoying life. At least at dinner time.
@tweezak Two 13 year old dogs here. One has a bulging disk so not completely controlling her back legs. She has no clue, therefore I assume no pain.
The other has a cough we’re trying to pin down the cause of without taking out another mortgage.
The amount of pills and supplements is growing quickly.
@callow@tweezak My dog (Australian shepherd mix) is somewhere between 12 and 13. He is deaf (from birth) but still pretty healthy for his age (we take 2-3 mile walks most days) but definitely showing his age. I’m guessing we have another 1.5 to 2 years or so.
@kjady One of our cats is the official visitor inspector. She has an understudy, but he’s not usually in the half of the house that has the front door. We have a couple of other cats who will remain where they are when strange humans enter the room, in the hope that perhaps they can attract some scritches. Most of the rest will just hide. Eventually, some of them will come out and inspect the goings-on. And then vanish again.
@kjady@werehatrack isnt that normal for cats (I have none)? I never see them around when I visit someone that has them. They seem to disperse. Personally I think they are meeting to discuss our weaknesses and how to take over the world lol
@tinamarie1974@werehatrack While this is true most of the time, my cats are psycho and literally growl when the door opens.They also stand at attention but flee if it’s a stranger.
@kjady@tinamarie1974@werehatrack I have several that hide but I have one that I am sure is checking to see if I am the best choice of the available humans to feed and pet her. As a result she comes up to anyone soliciting attention. I am reasonably sure were I to come in second she’d try to sneak out the door with whomever it is who came in first. She can definitely be bought by pets and treats.
My friend has no dog, but takes long walks in his neighborhood and always carries dog treats in his pocket. Some of the dogs recognize him and get so excited when they see him coming! He’s the canine Candyman! I guess I’ll get some for him, such a good price.
@Kyeh@tinamarie1974 sister-in-law in Colorado has a dog that gets very excited when the UPS truck drives up. A lot of barking and jumping you’d think she hates the UPS driver. But No, she wants them to open the door so she can go down to the UPS truck where the driver always gives her treats!
Btw only place I’ve seen short-wheelbase 4WD UPS trucks.
@Kyeh@pmarin@tinamarie1974 That reminds me of when my friend owned his bicycle shop. I would go on Saturdays and usually pick up breakfast. His dog was always excited to see the food man.
Charlie goes crazy when the delivery trucks arrive here as well. Lots of barking and jumping, but the tail is wagging like crazy the whole time. Unsure if he is happy someone is visiting or he is asserting his authority.
@Kyeh@pmarin@tinamarie1974@yakkoTDI When I take my dog on our daily walk, one of the routes we take passes 5 yards with dogs. My dog is super friendly and is excited when we pass. The neighbor dogs are all behind fences and it’s hard to tell if their barking is friendly or not. When I remember I take some treats along and toss one to both my and the neighbor dog as we pass in an effort to make friends. (I think we have won over at least 2 of them. )
@Kyeh My list of annoying things dogs do is much longer than the annoying things cats so. No surprise I am a cat owner. I’d suspect whomever wrote those surveys is not a cat fan.
I’d suspect whomever wrote those surveys is not a cat fan.
Or they are a current cat servant that has never had the pleasure of closely observing the demands imposed by dog ownership. (Dogs, IMLE, are much better at nonverbally communicating “Whosagoodhoominden?” as a means of reinforcing desirable behaviors.)
@chienfou@Kyeh@macromeh@werehatrack Well the kitten my friend has (maybe 5 mo old) sure isn’t lazy. That thing was in play attack mode and wouldn’t let up.
My dog is quite arthritic and can only walk about a block before needing to call it quits even though she doesnt want to call it quits. There have been times I carry her home. This makes me sad because it forces me to realize where she is in this journey we call life, and I believe it makes her sad because it embarrasses her.
But hey, I purchased these treats for her several weeks ago or so, and she enjoys them. So we’ve got that going for us!
Dusty (the grey tabby middle child) is our “Inspector General” - move anything more than than a few inches and he has to come over immediately and check it out, and even just a new box from amazon warrants a 15 minute review. One day we were alerted to a lot of huffing and puffing and cat challenge noises, and the local fox had come up to the side door (which has a full glass window down to the base) and was taunting Dusty through the window. Dusty, who’s already overweight and fairly hefty, had ballooned to twice his size and was ready to defend the sanctity of the laundry room from this alien intruder. This went on for about 5 minutes until the fox figured it’d caused enough chaos and wandered away. So that’s sort of a dog story.
My dogs (Newfoundlands) are simultaneously lazy and crazy active. The both are good at holding the floor down until you have to step over them or the door bell rings. Just hope that you’re not stepping over them at the same time the doorbell rings. They clean up pretty well.
I don’t have a dog.
@cengland0 non existant
@cengland0 Me neither.
A cat!
/giphy ocelot
@yakkoTDI was going to answer same way. No cat at the moment but know there are cat-people here that will help me when I am ready; sometime next year?
A
@somf69 definitely not dog-like then.
Pretty sure I have a room mate who is extra furry. He doesn’t think he is a dog
@tinamarie1974 Not like that guy in Japan huh
@Cerridwyn @tinamarie1974
That guy takes being a furry to a whole new extreme!
@Cerridwyn oh gosh no! How much did he pay for that suit? I still wonder how he moves around in it.
@Cerridwyn @tinamarie1974 And not to mention the dry cleaning…

@macromeh @tweezak What a handsome boy!
My dog is not a dog but a collection of eight cats that act like skittish chihuahuas when we have company.

@kjady @tinamarie1974 We aren’t supposed to know about those plans.
@kjady @werehatrack the dog told me!
@tinamarie1974 @werehatrack While this is true most of the time, my cats are psycho and literally growl when the door opens.They also stand at attention but flee if it’s a stranger.
@kjady @tinamarie1974 @werehatrack
All 8 of them?!!
/showme cats standing at attention and growling
@mediocrebot Yikes!
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @werehatrack If all eight are inside, yes. They are not imposing at all but bless them they try.
@kjady @tinamarie1974 @werehatrack
I’ve never had fierce cats so that’s amazing to me. Watch

My dog is a bitch.
@OnionSoup #teambitch

@Kyeh that is so sweet. I love it

@Kyeh @pmarin @yakkoTDI quickest way to a doggo’s heart is food!

@Kyeh @macromeh @pmarin @yakkoTDI love this!!
Crossed the rainbow bridge about 20 years ago.
☑ Not very active
I think there’s a bias here. The survey on cats was “The Most Annoying Thing My Cat Does Is …”
The dog one is just whether the dog is active or lazy.
@Kyeh Many of us among the cat contingent are painfully aware of just how assholic our little furry beasties can be.
I just spent the last 90 minutes cleaning up one of their special things.
@Kyeh
Yep… Hard to fight those pesky stereotypes!
@Kyeh My list of annoying things dogs do is much longer than the annoying things cats so. No surprise I am a cat owner. I’d suspect whomever wrote those surveys is not a cat fan.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh

@chienfou @Kyeh @werehatrack @Kidsandliz
I don’t think we need a poll to determine if cats are lazy.
@chienfou @Kyeh @macromeh @werehatrack Well the kitten my friend has (maybe 5 mo old) sure isn’t lazy. That thing was in play attack mode and wouldn’t let up.
/showme my purple balloon dog being lazy
@heartny @mediocrebot Good job!
@mediocrebot whosagoodbotden?
@heartny Was at the Hard Rock Casino, saw this display, and thought of you . (Because of the dog, not the poop )

@togle …which is nice
/youtube Bill Murray Caddyshack got that going for me
@togle Get a dog stroller to have her ride in after she has run out of steam walking. She’d probably love that.
@pmarin @togle One of my favorite Bill Murray lines - I use it often.
@Kidsandliz She might be a bit large for a stroller, but it’s worth a try. Thank you for the idea!

@mediocrebot Looks perfectly cromulent to me.
My dog is a cat. She’s not very active.
@tricityladytn so where is your Laser???

@stolicat Great Story! My cat Thor is a slayer of the Red dot! (aka the laser)
My dog identifies as a lion.
@capnjb MY dog had a natural mane; she didn’t have to resort to such trickery.
Also, I wish they could always be puppies.
@capnjb Agreed (post housebreaking of course)
Especially true for cats - kittens are way better.
/showme a non-exist tent
Show me my dog is a cat
@texmarc
/Showme my dog is a cat
Is the correct format
@texmarc I have found that I must put an “A” after the showme. It has not worked for me unless I do that.
@mycya4me @texmarc
Interesting… It worked for Kyeh, heartney and DLPanther above…
/showme a short hair frisky Cat
/showme a Warrior Cat that slays the Red Dot!
/show me a darn cat dog
@texmarc /showme has to be one word, and you have to be a current member.
/showme a darn cat dog
@Kyeh @texmarc That would be a pretty odd critter. It would not know if it is lick ya or wing it self around your legs!
@mycya4me @texmarc It’s quite nice looking though.

@DKBingham Wow! That is a beautiful creature!
@Kyeh thanks! She isn’t always so clean and groomed. Most times she’s digging in the mud and chasing squirrels.
@DKBingham Sounds like a blissful life for her!
/showme a lazy wild newfoundland dog
@mediocrebot that’s awesome!
KRULL! A SKULL! BRETT HULL! AWESOME!
