My Birthday Wish This Year...
24I have never posted on the forum before. Usually just check the page at night when the new item goes up. I browse the forums every now an then. A lot of you seem downright amazing. I digress…
As I posted in the Meh Birthday thread, mine is coming up on the 13th.
I don’t know about all of you, but when I got to a certain age birthdays became less about material stuff I was getting and more about things that leave an impact on life in general.
My wish for this year is pretty personal. I have a ten year old daughter, the light of my life. Fairly certain that I lucked out when she was born. ❤️
Five years ago, she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. It’s been stressful for me as her parent, but everything has been great since her diagnosis. She hasn’t gone the ER since that day.
Since 2013, I’ve been doing the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) walks. My daughter joined me in 2014; we created our walk team ‘Kali in ONEderland’ in 2015. This year, we will be doing to the walk again, as a mother-daughter team.
I am asking, wishing, hoping for a cure to type 1 every day. The bionic pancreas may be available in as soon as two years. Yay!!!
In the meantime, the JDRF benefits from donations that walkers collect. If any of you, could donate to our team (mostly on my daughter’s behalf) it would mean so much to me. If you aren’t financially able sharing our walk page is a HUGE help.

TL;DR
I’m getting another year older. I don’t want cards, presents, Fukus, or Fukos…just a donation to JDRF One Walk team ‘Kali in ONEderland.’ In honor and on behalf of my 10 yr old daughter, Kali, who has type 1 diabetes.
Thank you!!

Good luck on your walk, I hope the weather is beautiful!
Oh, what a pretty logo!!
@mikibell @barney It is PURPLE!!
@mikibell I love purple. @MzSooze Good luck, I hope you meet your goal.
@mikibell @barney Thank you!! Our original was a little rough, so I updated it this year. Not too bad for using GIMPshop.
The walk is October 2nd, so I am hoping for ideal Chicago weather.
Hey, @mfladd … a good cause and a lurker, all in one post!!
@mikibell Yup!! I like hide in the shadows, like a meh ninja.
@mikibell where’s he hiding anyhow?
@mfladd, @mfladd, where art thou @mfladd?
Happy birthday!

@KDemo Yum, pizza!
Sweet! You are 169.75 from what it looks like you raised last year… and 1274 from your goal!! You are getting closer!
Hah, I was so confused. Totally forgot that I posted that photo from last year. You can tell my little warrior was proud.
@MzSooze Welp… I can’t donate at this time, hubby is out of work for 2 months and is self-employed. So the best I can do is keep politely bumping this thread for you I have it on my calendar in September to evaluate where we are financially and donate!
@mikibell Understandable. I appreciate the bumps. Feel free to share the page on any other forums, social media as well. It has taken over all my personal accounts. As it should.
@MzSooze gonna take a page out of @mikibell’s book and earmark you for later in the year. Got some car payments to make and cash is a bit short this month. Best of luck!
@jbartus No worries. Still have about 3 months until the day of the walk, and they usually collect until the end of November. If that deadline changes I’ll let ya know.
Done!
Happy early birthday.
Good luck to you and your daughter!
@dashcloud Thank you!!
Done also, Happy birthday…heck we’re almost twins my bday is the 17th.
@mehbee one of my best friends’ birthday is the 14th. I’ve been calling him my birthday neighbor for years. I love it!
Always fun to have people to celebrate with. Happy birthday to you!!! Also, thank you!
there should be an all star video with Irk and Glenn. I wonder if they get along?

whooo who… you are at 43% of this year’s goal!!! Really close to last year’s amount…
@mikibell It’s exciting. I’ve posted the link on a couple celebrity posts on FB and Twitter. It worked.
Yippee!!
Hurray, MzSooze !! Your babydoll should be proud!
@mikibell she is. as am i.
You beat last year’s amount, still just about half way to this year’s goal!!!
Love the minions. Made me smile.
In college I got to know a grad student who was early diagnosed w Type 1. She became an ER physician, and, last I heard, is considered v healthy and in great shape at over age 60.
I wish your daughter great times. Will donate.
@f00l It’s stories like the one you just shared that give me hope. Knowing that someone has lived a long healthy life with type 1 diabetes is amazing! Makes this mama feel a little better.
Less than two months until the walk. We’re getting excited!! Yippee!!!
@MzSooze
Pls bump this every so often. Was thinking about this yesterday, don’t want to forget.
@f00l will do. I randomly thought of it as I posted links on Kali’s and my personal accounts.
Less than a month away!! 50% to goal!! (Gentle bump!) It just popped up on my calendar to go donate.
Last week to donate…
Wish I could donate…lost my job last December and for health reasons, unable to work at the moment but praying for your daughter and for a cure.
Last day, people… Kali is at 69% … don’t leave her at 69% … let’s get her to at least 75%!!!
Have a wonderful day tomorrow, Susan!
Hurray… Kali made 100% of her goal… With a penny to spare! Her team goal is at 71%. That is amazing…
A friend of mine was diagnosed with that as an infant. We ran a school camp together many years ago. He went on to have a long career climbing mountains all over the world, doing many other adventure activities (finally quit that when he decided rather belatedly in life to have a family). Yes he had precautions to take and his risk of certain diseases is higher because of that diagnosis, but like many other things in life it is what it is, you take precautions when necessary, use work arounds if you have to and proceed to then enjoy what life brings…
He told me that as a teen once he decided he was tired of the insulin gig and decided to do without. His parents weren’t happy when they discovered this and he didn’t like the outcome of that either… on the other hand many teens do stupid things, some more dangerous than others and in his case that was a lesson learned. He was one of the early adopters of the insulin pump and said that made his life a whole lot easier. Hopefully in your daughter’s lifetime they will come up with even better ways for people to deal with this.
