Movie Props
12On the way in I was listening to The Ticket (local sports radio) and they were doing something I thought was fun:
“What top three movies props would you like to own from your favorite movies?”
So, what are yours?
I’ll add mine in a bit when I get a few minutes to think about them.

-Jafar’s snake staff from the new Aladdin
-Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch
-Darth Maul’s double light saber
@medz one…two…five!
@medz @ybmuG
Three, sir!
-the delorean from BTTF
-the town of Specter from Big Fish (actually exists and is able to be visited)
-the tiny town from Beetlejuice
@Gypsigirl213 There are companies that will rent out recreated BTTF Deloreans.
@Gypsigirl213 Big Fish is my 2nd favorite movie behind Willy Wonka. Creepy fun fact: Matthew McGrory (Karl the Giant) died way too young and is buried one section over from my father. I made a point of stopping by his grave site to pay my respects.
@cinoclav @Gypsigirl213
FWIW I was in Big Fish as an extra… it was a BLAST to be involved with. Still go to Spectre for picnics now and then.
@chienfou @Gypsigirl213 That’s awesome. What scene?
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!
@cinoclav @Gypsigirl213 Specter auction and the funeral. (No, I am NOT Ewan McGregor…)
@cinoclav @Gypsigirl213 here’s what Spectrer looks like now…
@cinoclav So sorry about your father. If you go again, please pay my respects to Matthew M.—Big Fish is my favorite movie of all time.
@chienfou @cinoclav That is rad! I don’t know what you look like to find you in the scenes, but now I’m hankering to bust out and dust off the old DVD player to watch it again.
@chienfou @cinoclav I wanna go!!! Especially before it’s gone. Tho it seems to have held up well for being 15-16 years old (probably built at least a year prior to the film’s release) without maintenance.
@chienfou @cinoclav @Gypsigirl213 I’ve never seen Big Fish. Recommend?
@JnKL Absolutely! It’s actually a “must-see”.
@Gypsigirl213 @JnKL we just watched it last week with friends who had never seen it. It was as good as I remembered. My daughter was also in a couple of scenes. You can get to Specter easily and it is a cool place for a picnic in fall or spring. Fun to see what it looks like after weathering.
Tim Burton did a great job with this story
@cinoclav @Gypsigirl213
Stage left of EM…
@Gypsigirl213 Thanks but no worries. My father passed away 4 1/2 years ago. But I do occasionally stop in there so I’ll be sure to visit MM’s grave.
It seems. Big Fish isn’t on Netflix @Gypsigirl213
Andúril from Lord of the Rings (Aragorn’s sword, Narsil reforged). One in great shape even if it was one intended for stage combat.
One of the later mark Iron Man suits from the first Avengers movie. I think there was at least one complete prop suit even though, Robert Downey Jr being a wee lad, I could never put it on
The goblet that turned out to be the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Dang, fourth place. Herkimer Battle Jitny from Mystery Men.
In no particular order…
@tinamarie1974
the original jacket or the new Chinese approved one?
@duodec no, no. The original, non-politically correct one!
@tinamarie1974 yeah, baby! Mav’s jacket! Love it.
I don’t want props, I want the real things.
They’re real aren’t they? Hollywood wouldn’t lie to me would it?
@therealjrn
/8ball Is Hollywood for reals?
Without a doubt
@therealjrn I want the Millennium Falcon, but I’ll settle for an X-Wing.
And a light saber, of course.
@blaineg Of course.
@blaineg @therealjrn And a pet Yoda
@blaineg @therealjrn @ybmuG I’d rather have a pet Ewok. I mean, look at this little guy. I wanna hug him and kiss him and love him…
Indiana Jones bullwhip
M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens
1973 Falcon GT XB from Road Warrior
-or-
1983 Family Truckster from Vacation
@ruouttaurmind Hope you got deep pockets. This wasn’t even the real one.

Various vehicles designed by “Q” and driven by James Bond.
The war truck from Road Warrior
Anduril and The One Ring also rate.

@f00l
Also, this Mustang, from Bullitt
@f00l OK, NOW yer talkin’!
@ybmuG
Imagine the sf streets being that clear of other vehicles at any time of day or night now.
@f00l Yeah, but it never gets old!
@ybmuG
Am quite fond of that film.

I’m not sentimental. I’d just get whichever top three props have sold for the most money in history. I think a couple are on lists already mentioned.
Then I’d sell them. In the spirit of the question, though, I’d use a tiny, tiny fraction of the money to buy the titular cup from everyone’s favorite art film about two girls.
@Limewater super gross, bro
@Limewater It was more asstular than titular, I think.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Limewater
There are so many amazing props made for so many amazing movies, I don’t think I could pick a top three.
The more I think about it, the more cool things come to mind.
And I wasn’t even thinking of cars as props until I read some of the amazing suggestions above. Bullit Mustang, yes please. Bond’s Aston Martin(s), hell yes. Mad Max muscle cars, .
I will pick one, though, the first thing that came to my mind was Han Solo’s blaster pistol - the one he shot first with.
Then I’d spend all my time in front of the mirror with it, trying to recreate the bad-ass, from-the-hip, gunslinger-style ways he had of firing it.
Seriously though, I’m with @Limewater, and not sentimental. Whatever I could sell for the most money sounds good to me.
Although back in the 80’s when I was a teenager and totally infatuated with “V” and “V The Final Battle”, I would have given anything to have one of those red uniforms the visitors wore…
@moonhat Was that show wherein the aliens got drunk with sour milk? If so, that is the only thing I remember about it and I watched it fairly regularly. Weird how the brain purges some stuff-it’s like a gap in my memory. I couldn’t even name one character.
@Gypsigirl213 @moonhat That was a different TV show with a “buddy cop” premise. Never got into V, but liked the show your referring to.
@Gypsigirl213 @mike808 yes these were the aliens that looked human but were reptilian underneath
@Gypsigirl213 @moonhat The buddy cop, aliens get drunk when they drink milk thing was first a movie, Alien Nation, with James Caan, and then there was a TV series that lasted a couple of seasons.

@Gypsigirl213 @moonhat
@mike808 @moonhat OMGOMGOMG! That’s the show I remember!!! Thanks Mike! I even have a vague memory of seeing that alien dude in that scene with the curdled milk.
@Gypsigirl213 @mike808 @moonhat
that was actually a pretty cool series and very poignant at times. The themes of discrimination and racial(species) distrust were nicely handled.
I keep hoping it will show up on Netflix one day.
@chienfou @Gypsigirl213 @moonhat
The movie is on Starz, Vudu, Youtube, Google Play, and the DVD is on Amazon.
The series is on DVD and Amazon and Vudu.
Neither is part of Prime (likely due to Starz subscription). Starz is an add-on to Amazon Video and Hulu.
Try Netflix DVD service or Redbox?
@chienfou @Gypsigirl213 @moonhat
There was a remake film in the works, but Disney shelved the Fox project this summer.
A film about literal illegal aliens being kept by the government in a shithole concentration camp in California’s Mojave desert close to the Mexican border.
What could possibly go wrong?
People or POTUS confusing it with a documentary?
@Gypsigirl213 @mike808 @moonhat oh I use to that show. Gonna have to check my Roku so I can rewatch it!!
Ok my top three are:
Orgrim’s Doomhammer from the Warcraft movie:
Malcolm Reynolds gun from Serenity (Firefly):
Captain America’s Shield
/image most expensive movie prop
@medz oh I forgot about the General Lee…can I have a fourth?
@tinamarie1974 Only if you paint over the roof and replace it with:

desecration. Like the taliban destroying monuments.
@duodec @tinamarie1974
Fun topic. What does @Targaryen want?
@therealjrn I answered about 2 replies up.
Hmmm… Le Chiffre’s Predator 108 yacht from the Casino Royale reboot, Wet Nellie, the actual Lotus-Esprit shaped submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me, and… Mr. Hinx’ Jaguar C-X75 from Spectre.
A working stargate from SG-1.
@mike808
@llangley
@mike808 Dibs on the one from Atlantis.
Star Trek’s teletransporter and replicator
Dr. Who’s Tardis
A star gate would be good too as someone else mentioned
/giphy The Crow
Brandon Lee’s leather jacket from The Crow
Holly Golightly’s cigarette holder in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Prince’s guitar from Purple Rain
That inflatable kangaroo in that one kangaroo movie (Kangaroo Jack??) I can’t recall, my memory is fuzzy…I remember him sitting in the front seat of a truck.
The flying Peugeot from Blade Runner 2049
Tangentially related, Screenbid is a great website to just peruse and see all the random crap that they sell.
For example, just $25 can get you an Entertainment 720 Foot Scraper as seen on Parks and Rec
Or maybe you’d prefer Dr. Brennan’s paperweight and some prop report folders straight from the set of Bones!
Medical bills got you down? Well for only $250 you can get ASAC Hank Schrader’s medical bill from Breaking Bad!
“Hey Doug, what’s with the empty bottle of tequila on your mantle? You’re not in college anymore bud, that doesn’t count as decoration.”
"Oh but you see, this empty bottle of Hornitos was in an episode of Sons of Anarchy! And it only cost $100, can you believe it?"
@Moose Hope they come with certificates of authenticity.
#cynical that way.
There is also https://propstore.com/.
After the original Matrix movie came out I was obsessed with finding Neo’s boots. They were made by Airwalk which was my favorite sneakers at the time. They never released them for sale. Was so sad.
/image neo Airwalk matrix boots
I also love the car from Stephen King’s The Dark Half.
/image 1966 black Toronado dark half
I don’t necessarily need the actual props from the movie, but they are something I’d love to own in my lifetime.
Apparently there is a company that makes replicas. Only $800.
