@cengland0@medz Yup- See it all the time at the local Wegmans and Walmarts.
Back in my day, I liked being warm [kinda like now], so I’d have never have done that.
@cengland0@medz@PhysAssist There is a panhandler I pass frequently who only wears shorts and no socks. And that includes the few days we had below freezing - he doesn’t ever seem cold though as he never zips his various jackets.
@spitfire6006006 Especially the high-centering in our Honda Fit when the DPW doesn’t plow adequately [which is mostly]. It’s front wheel drive and gets snow tires put on in late fall, so it’s otherwise great in the snow, just not >6" of unplowed snow or slush, as is often the case for a day or two after it snows here.
@duodec We also have an all-wheel drive Honda Element and a 4-WD Ford truck, but it’s usually less convenient to drive them than the Fit, due to issues of gas mileage- except in winter.
We live on a rural road, in upstate [Western] NY with an approx. 1000 foot long driveway with an s-curve on the final approach hill- we have to have “real” cars to be able to go anywhere in the winter.

@CaptAmehrican@shahnm those iguanas have overrun certain areas and they are invasive, so I wouldn’t worry too much. People can scoot them into the sun and they’ll be fine most of the time, but honestly, the wildlife would be better if some of them perished.
…Though on a positive note, my batteries are enjoying a little outdoor R&R these days. You can never overestimate the value of sunlight and physical activity in making for happy batteries. True story.
The sun setting so early.
I’d take this weather over the summer heat-n-mosquitoes without giving it a second thought, but mannn, dark before 6pm is tough on morale.
@FrostByte Actually I don’t really mind driving on snow, especially packed snow.
I just hate trying to drive through/on slush and ice- as occurs after the DPW idjits salt the roads before the temps drop below the 20’s- which they do regularly here.
/giphy slip-sliding away
If you’d asked me when my ankle was still broken, I would have said the slippery nature of the ground, but I’m a biped again and now this dry skin is damn inconvenient
Getting out of/shoveling/salting the gravel drive was a pain. The drive is steep and every year, because of a cornfield across the road, massive amounts of rain wash deep trenches in my drive. And one side drops off. Then snow. And ice. Couple with a 2000lb Saturn to get out. Never fun. I’ve had it slide off and towed back on at least twice in six years. Might have been three
But the poor old girl started throwing a rod bearing this fall so I bought an even older ford expedition for $400. Who’s AWD/4WD still works. Haven’t had to shovel yet. And she can tow. Do need it to warm up to do lots of fluid/filter changes and investigate some Gremlins. But so far so good.
@therealjrn suffice it to say I would not have minded having a gremlin but that was probably before me an I meant the WWII monsters villans/weird issues you dig into in systems. You know. The ones they imagined on the a wings of planes.
So far an acclaim with a bad head gasket I fixed then bought off my dad for $500 in highschool.
Then that car got wrecked so I swapped the engine into the parts car in the middle of winter. It made it through the end of highschool.
Then the Saturn at the beginning of college. She was a 99 and I got her in 04 for like $1650. and made it another 15 years after I bought her to ~250K miles. She’s technically not dead yet. But I already swapped the transmission from my dad’s dead Saturn (very easy) and the cheapest route is a used engine.
But she runs and the expedition runs. I know not everyone enjoys it but if you’re good at it and have bought most of the tools. Because they were cheaper than a service call. And you had the time. It’s not a bad hobbey.
I bet I should replace the intake manifold gaskets on The expedition based on current codes but she’s not dead and I could get scrap value which was I paid. And it’s not warm enough yet. Hopefully she holds on
Can’t wear shorts outside.
@cengland0 ain’t never stopped no college kids, I can tell you that.
@cengland0 @medz Nor a couple of panhandlers around here.

None of the above, I love winter.

The FUCKING COLD!
(And I’m a Florida boy…)
@shahnm i hear you have iguanas dropping from trees
@CaptAmehrican @shahnm
(singing) Iguana rain, Iguanaaa raiiinnnnnn…
@shahnm Hey but you will have more room in your fridge in the winter as you can put your batteries outside.
@CaptAmehrican @shahnm those iguanas have overrun certain areas and they are invasive, so I wouldn’t worry too much. People can scoot them into the sun and they’ll be fine most of the time, but honestly, the wildlife would be better if some of them perished.
@PocketBrain @shahnm This would make a great Meh music video. Iguana Rain could be a musical hit. Sung by Irk of course
How much gas I waste on remote start just so the kids aren’t cold getting in the truck in the mourning.
@show_the_maw teach them to man up. One day they will be paying for the gas and thank you.

Not much as long as I get snow!!
/giphy blizzard
Knowing it will be gone very soon and be too damn hot again.
Amazingly, it was 41 degrees this morning. Currently 55 in West Palm Beach. I will be surprised if it stays like this through the weekend.
@JT954 Being in Arizona, you took the words out of my mouth
Running out of provisions so I have to put on pants to go to the store.
@therealjrn Yeah but that’s every season though.
@PocketBrain I’ve been waiting for somebody to say that!
got almost a foot of snow while camping last weekend it was glorious!
Snowbirds.

All this snow on Pensacola Beach. Oh wait…
Honestly, when I first saw this beach 30 something years ago I was amazed how white the sand was.
The sun setting so early.
I’d take this weather over the summer heat-n-mosquitoes without giving it a second thought, but mannn, dark before 6pm is tough on morale.
@jester747
I haz a S.A.D.
@jester747 Came here to say this. The weather isn’t an issue in So Cal, but i look forward to having more sunlight at the end of the day.
The non-stop complaining about winter.
That there’s not enough of it. Off tofor some tomorrow!!
Actually, I finally can get exercise outside.
Climb into cold bed, watch blue sparks all over the sheets. Every grounded metal thing shocks you. Notice hands are bleeding again.
It is my favorite season.

Having to wear extra clothing.
/giphy dress in layers
What is this winter of which you speak?
Oh, you mean when it gets below 50 at night.
/giphy teehee
Never ever being warm again
In Taxes, it’s all the above for the couple days it’s winter.
All of the muthafarking salt on my car, my shoes, my french fries.
@irishbyblood …and causing rust and potholes.
/giphy rusty potholes
@irishbyblood @PhysAssist
And rusty trombones.
@irishbyblood @PhysAssist holy fuck!!
@tinamarie1974 Haven’t you ever seen that clip before now?
IIRC, it’s been floating around for awhile now.
That is quite the deep hole, -but honestly it’s nothing compared to the now-burgeoning: Sinkholes…
/youtube sinkholes
@tinamarie1974 Not to mention @therealjrn’s Rusty Trombones…

Sick people
Everyone hates winter and I love it!
Snow
It’s to cold to wanna do anything

Death.
The cold.
In SoCal the overnight lows can get into the mid-40’s. But it’s great running temps.
Pretending it’s the weather’s fault I’m not exercising.
I live near mountains, winter is best.

@unksol A Gremlin?
@therealjrn I don’t do this enough to get a successful tag of the movies
@therealjrn suffice it to say I would not have minded having a gremlin but that was probably before me an I meant the WWII monsters villans/weird issues you dig into in systems. You know. The ones they imagined on the a wings of planes.

This particular sleepy Friday afternoon, the worst part of winter for me is that I’m not the sort of animal that hibernates.
/giphy want a nap
@f00l man that dog has a weird stomach.
