I had a bunch of fun today picking apart the site to make the Better Editor for meh.com Forums on Mobile Devices for @Thumperchick. After it was done I was poking at things when I came across @Barney’s thread about meh needing more purple when inspiration struck. The default Meh themes are nice and all, but I could see some room for improvement and dark / light don’t really offer much room for customizing to suit your unique tastes. As such, MehChromatic was born!
Given that I was in @Barney’s thread I couldn’t not do purple first, so here it is, I present to you MehChromatic : Heliotrope Edition
If people like this idea, I’ll do other colors and themes too, so let me know if you like this, even if purple isn’t your cup of tea. Feel free to suggest colors or even color combinations for future editions of MehChromatic and I’ll try to take user interest into account when/if I do future installments.
If you’d like to use MehChromatic : Heliotrope Edition here’s what you need to do:
Installation Instructions
Implementing this theme requires a User Style browser extension/add-on/plugin like Stylish. These instructions will specifically relate to using Stylish with Google Chrome, other browsers should be similar.
- Install Stylish ( Chrome, Firefox, Safari )
- Install MehChromatic : Heliotrope Edition
- Profit
That’s about it, not so bad, right?
Be sure to let me know what you think. If you find any issues with the styling (unstyled bits) please be sure to let me know and I’ll get them sorted out. Cheers!

Cool beans! How about a nice navy blue…something less harsh than dark mode but not as bright as purple? I love dark mode … I hit the incognito tab button by accident the other day and wow was the white background very bright!
@mikibell it’s funny you should say that, I was toying around with the working title MehChromatic : Ultramarine Edition just this afternoon…
I am trying to be more creative with names, rather than just using the common word everybody is familiar with. Hence, purple = heliotrope
@jbartus beryl or azure would work too!
@mikibell beryl usually makes me think of a blue-green color, but ‘Azure Edition’ alliterates nicely. Azure feels a little played out what with Microsoft using it and such lately but I might go with it regardless.

@barnabee oh no…not a purple hater…my bedroom wallpaper, when I was a child, was purple with white polka dots, and, I think, pansies…pretty purple flowers whatever they were…hahah your reply disappeared, so now I look crazier than normal!

@mikibell I do have a nightie that is lavender and says “There is no place like home.” I won’t go into any further details.
Another update guys, added support for collapsed replies on comments. (comments with a large number of replies get collapsed if you didn’t know that). You can get this and other updates through Stylish by going to manage styles, checking for updates, then installing the update.

@shawn I didn’t want to pester you on the weekend so I waited. I just wanted to know if offering these kinds of mods and stuff is kosher or if I’d be stepping on your toes / creating hassles for you. Let me know if it’s a problem at all, I am happy to comply.

Regarding your points:
I’ll probably post up another tiny mod soon for giving non-emoji images a uniform width. Pet peeve of mine is posting a GIF that’s legible on Giphy that someone resized down once upon a time to save space or whatever and when posted here native, instead of being stretched to width like Giphy, it ends up unreadable. Testing out that tweak on my end right now before offering it up. (Plus was waiting to see your position on this one) ^^

A new update has been pushed for MehChromatic featuring:
Partial credit for this update goes to @mikibell who requested the editor be styled to match. Not 100% certain I’m happy with where it’s at yet but it’s close, still contemplating what I think of the editor toolbar. Let me know what you think!
