Re item #1. I might follow guidelines regarding actual “complaints”. However, I would not agree to any restrictions regarding the activities of “bitching” or “whining”.

I will echo what @zachdecker mentioned however…you may want to keep things a bit more focused and pointed. Deciphering what the fuck is actually going on with the exchange and this thread is a nightmare to me.

No chit chat other than to answer questions. Short, to the point, people will understand what the deal is, more will sign up. I have read this entire thread (quickly though) and have missed how you sign up - don’t feel like re-reading right now to figure it out. What you need is our screen name, real name, address, email address, how many boxes, and if they have participated before, reminding the newbies that they can only do one. How about just asking studerc for a copy of what he used? He likely has worked the bugs out of it so it will reasonably painless. You also need to get from him the list of people who have screwed their fellow mehonians in the past by receiving and failing to send so that you can either assign them to each other (would serve them right) or exclude them and/or ask studerc how he dealt with it.

@zachdecker Umm I am having the opposite problem with a student right now. Short two paragraph assignment (two goals and short action plan for an applied project). Very specific directions. Got all this vague, poorly written trash from her that could be interpreted several ways. So I gave her feedback, copying the offending sentences, stated (for each one) this could mean X or this could mean Y. Which are you intending? Please redo this to make that clear. She turned it back in without fixing the offending sentences but redid other parts. I gently pointed that out. Her response was that she was an English major and I was nit picking her sentence structure. So I gave her the grade she earned via the rubric. I’d suspect there will be fireworks. Poorly written fireworks. Sigh. Fortunately I have a decent overlord. Unfortunately I am stuck with her for 8 more weeks.

Yes please, let’s not turn this little kerfluffle into a full-on brouhaha. I don’t always pick up what @Yoda_Daenerys is putting down, but even with the extra creativity the form was navigable. Having done this before might help, and the thread is a little confusing. But there’s no reason we can’t have a little surreality stirred into our misuse of the postal system this go 'round.

@Yoda_Daenerys actually you are not “fine with other people taking over…” since you then said you didn’t want organized and you’d take your toys and go home and have your exchange just with the people who signed up so far and everyone else could be in a different one… As I said elsewhere I’ll butt out. @timmyboy1 Except he asked me to do something, then wondered why I had not done it yet (I was working), then told me to do whatever I wanted and then didn’t like what I was going to do so said we could have 2 exchanges. That makes no sense since that defeats the purpose of a community activity. So I backed out. No skin off of my teeth. Although I was the first to volunteer to run it (so was sort of surprised that someone else was), as long as someone runs it so it happens then all is good.

Being bothered seems kinda built-in to the species. More, perhaps, than we would like? I would not know how to model the consequences of alt designs. The form asks for a word or phrase that you think up. Can be the same as someone else’s, or not.

Enter the phrase, plus your address etc, on the form.

Then comeback to the thread and enter the passphrase in the thread.

That confirms it’s you who is participating, not someone who followed the link but who grabbed your uid off the forum for mischievous reasons.

@Thumperchick i don’t think there is going to be another thread anymore. I was asked to start it. Posted what I was going to do. The response was s/he didn’t like it so would do a separate exchange for those who have signed up so far, and everyone else could join the other one. That would have fractured the community fun so I backed out.

There is a way to sign up but it is buried many posts down and not found by some. Also someone thought all they needed to do is “like” the post to sign up. Maybe edit the original post with a clear statement to “click here to sign up” and state the process since apparently one has to post a phrase on this thread and then repeat that phrase on the sign up sheet. Not sure if other rules are posted anywhere or not in this thread. If there is a link to them that probably should be also listed in that edited post too. If there isn’t then maybe put some.
