Mediocritee is (almost) here!
43A while back we announced Mediocritee in a newsletter. Well, it’s finally (very nearly) ready. This Monday at 11am Eastern, the first designs will launch at Mediocritee. We’re calling them the Mediocritee Launch Tees. Clever, eh?
So what is Mediocritee? The easiest answer will be to go visit at 11am on Monday, but who wants to wait for that? I put together a FAQ on Mediocritee to hopefully answer some basic questions. Head over there and check it out! It should seem familiar to you if you remember the shirt events on Meh from the last year or so, but there’s a twist or two.
Then come back here and ask me about anything I forgot to put in there. And, of course, feel free to hang out in the mediocritee.com forum for any other design/art/shirt talk.

Of course we have questions. Like: When’s the first cat shirt? Asking for a friend. That is, assuming I can consider @narfcake a friend…
@cinoclav Good question! I’d like to know too, since I’m not wearing a catshirt today.
(My shirt of the day is @acraigl’s Simple Reminder.)

Simple Reminder
Price: $19.00
Condition: Probably New
2 shirts enter, 1 shirt leaves!
/giphy thunderdome
@medz Appears the second shirt leaves too - at half price!
@cinoclav I’m just hoping for stats on which shirt sells better.
@medz Stats are always cool to see. Eh @dave?!
Yes! I found a couple inches today on a shelf that’s not full of t-shirts yet!
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Rule #1: Did you check the sizing chart?
My years spent in the shirt.woot forums:
FAQ suggestions:
@narfcake Great suggestions, thanks.
@narfcake I pretty much added everything you suggested. Thanks again.
@dave You’re welcome! If I think of anything else, I’ll post them up too.
@narfcake I think I also have more copies of Fresh Cake in its various forms than any other shirt.
@dave More thoughts:
Why don’t you offer any children sizes?
(I don’t think many folks realize the additional certifications/testing that is required to be compliant with CPSC/CPSIA regulations.)
Can I get these any faster?
(No!)
How many can I purchase?
@narfcake Thanks again, I added those, too.
@dave
(No. That’s why we told you to check the sizing charts!)
(Contact support with pics of the problem.)
@dave
(Our shirts are printed by the classic time honored method of screen printing – not with a giant ink jet printer.)
/giphy Hurrah!
Awesome!
POPSOCKETS! COURT DOCKETS! FOLK ROCK HITS! AWESOME!
Are these the typical heavier t-shirt where if you wear an XXL or even and XL, they strangle you?
@Cerridwyn are you talking about men’s or women’s sizing?
And do you mean strangle around the neck? I can measure a shirt I have.
@RiotDemon
a lot of my mid range woot shirts (pre-Bezosland) are actually uncomfortable to wear, especially sitting down. the neck hole is either to high or too small for the size of the shirt. as a result you pull on it a lot and it gets ugly and stretched out of shape.
I have 2 coffee shirts, the one of the pretty lady, on an almost pale yellow beige (it’s now on blue) i bought one and several years later my daughter bought me one and they fit so different even though the size is the same. One is comfortable, the other is not (and it’s all in the neck, not the belly or chest)
@Cerridwyn @RiotDemon
The shirt.woot time frame goes like this:
The Next Level Apparel blanks that will be used here are most similar to the American Apparel blanks, with the women’s shirts a bit slimmer and tapered. At least for the men’s shirts, the neck line is also on par with the AA blanks. It’s a lighter weight fabric; 4.3oz is the same spec as AA.
@Cerridwyn @narfcake @RiotDemon
Hope not too lightweight.
I like the fabric to be heavy enough to have some body and shape on its own.
@f00l @narfcake @RiotDemon
110 in the shade in the summer
…
i really wish places would offer two weights, light weight for us menopausal women who live in the desert, and heavy for youall you like them to be able to stand up by themselves.
@Cerridwyn @f00l @RiotDemon Alternative for anyone wanting a thicker shirt: wear a second t-shirt underneath. If Doug DeMuro can get away with doing so while reviewing cars worth
$1,000$5,000$10,000$25,000$50,000$100,000$250,000$500,000$1,000,000$2,500,000$10,000,000$20,000,000, then so can you.@f00l @narfcake @RiotDemon
LOL
I’ll believe it when I see it
Pics or it didn’t happen (not Doug, you)
@Cerridwyn @f00l @RiotDemo and like others said, thick enough it isn’t see through and not so stretchy it is tight and form fitting. I don’t like to have to wear a bra if I don’t want to just because a shirt is thin, clingy and flimsy. And wearing two - why should I have to buy two just because the fabric is so crappy thin? I don’t want to have to buy and wear two shirts when up until recently shirts used to be thick enough.
@Cerridwyn @f00l @Kidsandliz Some shirts are thicker because of all the impurities and short fibers in the cotton are left in. That doesn’t make them better, though. It’s just “filler” that makes it a thicker and coarser shirt.
http://blog.bellacanvas.com/t-shirt-jargon-101-dissecting-the-tee/
@Cerridwyn @f00l @narfcake Well yes that can be the case but there can also be nice fabric that isn’t paper thin (I am guessing this is the clothing version of the 1/2 gallon of ice cream that is now 1.75 quarts). Most of the older shirts were thicker - I have some from the 90’s - Gap, JR Crew, LL Bean, etc. and they were all thicker and soft compared to what they sell today. Life is Good shirts are now much thinner and that has only been over a few years. Old Navy stuff might as well be disposable it is so thin and crappy these days.
@Kidsandliz 1.5 quarts nowadays.
@Cerridwyn @f00l @Kidsandliz @narfcake Thrift stores often have “vintage” shirts, and I buy them. The difference is especially noticeable when you put one beside a new shirt.
@Cerridwyn @f00l @Kidsandliz @OldCatLady The feeling is noticeable too. I still have a bunch of Animaniacs shirts from the 90s. Sure, they were thicker, but also scratchier.
Go further back, and the t-shirts of the 80s and earlier were thinner (and slimmer). What’s old is new again, I guess.
@f00l @Kidsandliz @narfcake @OldCatLady
Mountain shirts are an example of heavy shirts that make me sweat in the summer and often kill my neck because they are tight, and sweaty
@Cerridwyn @f00l @narfcake @RiotDemon unexpected Doug DeMuro!
/buy
@Ignorant Sorry, I’m not sure what you’re trying to buy. Make sure you’re posting in today’s deal topic.
@Ignorant @mediocrebot /buy
@DrunkCat @Ignorant I find great irony in the two people posting the buy command being ignorant and drunk.
@cinoclav @DrunkCat @Ignorant
If ignorance is bliss, what does that make the combination?
Can you turn my run-of-the-mill dresser into a Dresser of Holding so that I can have some room to store all these shirts?
@SSteve

There’s a typo in the last FAQ, Where do the designs come from?
Amazing artists! Over the years [we’ve] made friends with quite a few artists from around the web…
@jimmyd103 @narfcake The typo is still there.
@jimmyd103 @narfcake @OldCatLady thanks, I’ll fix that tomorrow
Will there be cats?
@TheFLP Refer to the original newsletter, as posted above.
@narfcake
You expect me to remember something mentioned in a two-year-old newsletter? I don’t remember yesterday.
(OTOH, I found a newsletter from 1/13/15, so it’s maybe slightly moderately possible that I really have been occupying Meh server space for 1733 days, and was a total slacker for the first 500 of them.)
@TheFLP Nope – no expectation of remembering its verbiage, but it is linked in the write up.
@narfcake
If I believed every two-year-old newsletter I’ve read, I’d have unreasonably high expectations.
Just saying: this should be in the FAQ. I mean, it’s essential. It’s the ur-FAQ, dammit!
/giphy are we there yet
How long till Monday? Can we get a sneak preview? How about a free sample? Will they make my butt look big?
Shirt.meh.com you say?
So it begins.
Sellout to Amazon within 24 mos.
@givemeyoursoul Maybe Rakuten will buy them…
Unfortunately SWMBO has informed me that I can not buy every shirt, even though I keep referring her to @narfcake’s closet. She seems to think that I’m a hoarder.
@2many2no Tell her that if you can buy every shirt it will give the household (eventually) an endless supply of rags.
@Kidsandliz Tried that…
Didn’t go over very well
Screen or digital printing?
@wyk3d Reading is fundamental.
https://meh.com/forum/topics/mediocritee-is-almost-here#5ca8bb8187aec455ea86f2b1
@cinoclav @wyk3d Except for the aspect that I’m just the resident
scapegoatshirtgoat and vol.mod., so I’m moreso presuming that it will indeed be screen printed like all the previous Screenprint Sunday offerings.@cinoclav @narfcake @wyk3d definitely screen printing. I need to add that to the faq, per @narfcake’s suggestion.
@narfcake @wyk3d Well, I was also going by this post. And OMG, was this really 2 years ago already?
https://mediocre.com/forum/topics/mediocres-new-home-with-ongoing-updates#58de5a879cdc4b033093c39c
@cinoclav @wyk3d Yeah. Time flies.
any chance we could get a more open neckline option for the gal shirts at some point? noticed next level seems to carry a decent vneck (#n6480) or pricier scoop neck (#6730) or dolman (#6760). just not a big crew neck shirt fan (not that i didn’t buy a bunch of sunday shirts anyway).
/image t-minus 12 hours
@narfcake Well, it technically launches at 11am
@dave
/Blame goat!
Happy that you offer 4XL sizes! The 3xl were sometimes too small.
@MarkDaSpark We haven’t finalized all of that yet, and it’ll likely evolve as the site goes on, but can I ask where you saw 4XL mentioned?
@dave @MarkDaSpark probably in the linked size chart
@dave @jaybird
As Jaybird mentioned, that’s where I saw it. Plus when I ordered the shirts.
I can’t wait to learn which shirt designers I should hate and for what reason. (ex: too successful, stealing their designs, bot army voting for their designs in the derby, etc…)
@medz Don’t forget being told repeatedly to “take your dreck elsewhere”.
Wait! This mediocritee thing is real?
Whoa!
Imagine how fun the first mediocritee detour in a meh-a-thon will be!
@medz ouch
Oh well. It’s all over. No more Mediocritee.
