That WOULD make it more exciting, but, Mary Poppins being done by Disney, and them being “family friendly”-ish, any zombie plot wouldn’t be fully exciting.
Can’t Hollywood, or Disney in this case, come up with fresh ideas for movies? I’m not interested in my favorite movies redone with different actors. I want fresh material, new stories!
@emt305 to be fair it is uncertain whether or not this will be a remake. There are eight books, the seoncd of which is named Mary Poppins Comes Back. They may be doing a treatment of that book and thought Returns sounded more cinematic than ‘comes back’. Personally, I don’t know if anyone other than Julie Andrews could be Mary Poppins for me… by the way, doesn’t she look absolutely astounding for 80?
@jbartus it is not a remake / reboot - storyline details have already leaked - it is a continuation in the storyline in keeping with the subsequent books.
@Pavlov ah, you know more about it than me, thanks for sharing that tidbit. There you go, @emt305, brand new movie with a brand new story drawn from the later books.
Also… look at her, if I look that good when I’m 80 I will be truly lucky.
@jbartus The new film will be set in Depression-era London, the setting of Travers’ stories, and will see Mary Poppins return to the now grownup Jane Banks, Michael Banks and his three children after they suffer a personal loss.
Poppins, through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, will help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.
The studio did not say in any statement whether Andrews, now 80, or Van Dyke, 90, will appear in any capacity and representatives for the actors have not responded to any request for comment.
It is a continuation with different actors, not a remake or a reboot. In serial fiction, to reboot means to discard all continuity in an established series in order to recreate its characters, timeline and backstory from the beginning. The term is used with respect to various different forms of fictional media such as comic books, television series, video games, and films among others. To remake is pretty much self-explanatory.
Just defining the terms for the sake of the audience as a whole.
I’m good with “sequels” until they get stupid, lol! I’m just sick of them remaking old movies instead of new! I think it would be nice if they left well enough alone in some cases (examples: True Grit, The Longest Yard, The Karate Kid, Bad News Bears, Arthur).
IT’s hard to resist the idea of Lin Manuel Miranda being rolled as the male in the new movie, even as much as I hate the idea of a new Mary Poppins movie.
His performance in (and creation of) Hamilton is truly amazing. I have never wanted to watch a Broadway musical so badly.
as a zombie?

@Pavlov another remarkably immortal actor, he’s 90 years old and he hasn’t lost the magic:
Also his workout routine makes me feel lazy as fuck… which to be fair I am but still:

@emt305 I’m with you on most of those. But at least this one they’re not going for a remake.
@emt305 most “new” stories at this point are varying versions of old stories. Truly original content is a unicorn.
