@AttyVette@stinks now the question is do you pull the trigger or wait until they are even cheaper? Is there really only 1000 left? If there are only 1000 left, will they even be able to sell that many today? Stay tuned next Friday to find out!
@akparker777@AttyVette This is exactly the quandary. I’d like a cheap notification watch for traveling this summer, but it feels like $15 is my impulse threshold.
@studerc emerged from the shadows and decided to purchase one. Punish his foolishness by giving him all remaining stock after the day and require him to chronicle is journey to rid himself of all of them.
@shahnm I thought I read a post that they couldn’t setup the watch anymore… which would make the meh coupon warranty go into effect right?
warranty info in writeup:
but I thought that as I saw it sold out at 600 of them… but now that I look at the page again it is no longer sold out… and I can’t find the post… so maybe the servers are still up and they will still work?
edit: it now shows 27 sold… I guess I jumped to conclusions… didn’t know if it was a “oh shit” thing and they stopped sales at 600 etc.
@shahnm@thismyusername I don’t recall either of these needing a server for anything or account creation. You do have an option during setup to register, but that’s warranty registration, which you can skip. I think the worst that could happen with these models is whatever weather API they’re using could require an update some day and stop functioning. Of course, Apple could always break it with an iOS update too. They’ve done that to a few of my devices and of course it’s up to the developer to chase the changes. And of course the developer is out to lunch indefinitely on these. But heck, my AE02 works so damn well, I just bought 2 more to give away to friends and a PT01 for myself. I come from a long line of this tech and didn’t think these would grow on me like they have. Really enjoying it. Definitely nicer looking in person. Most smart watches are.
@thismyusername You’re thinking of the Olio watches. The servers required to set up the watch are down, which renders it a very nice looking paperweight.
but I guess it was just a bad unit… and I might have mixed in the olio watches as well… this whole post is based on me thinking meh was accidentally giving a discount, but turned out to just be me not paying very close attention.
@shahnm@thismyusername
site works and you can setup the watch, there is no issue that we are aware of with the app or the setup. We check that issue often.
How many times is this shit going to be for sale this week. Did you all not get it the 1st time it didn’t sale out? These are selling out worse than that time snapster sold out to Amazon…
i bought a VIP watch earlier and though it was nice looking but realized shortly that my least favorite things about smart watches is that they vibrate when you get a text and buzz when you lose blue tooth connection. That’s like, most of the smart features of this watch. I went back to my dumb watch that at least has a day of the week indicator.
I’ve got a thing for these Martian watches. Pretty sad they are going out of business. Used to have a notifier. Psyched about the mVoice I just ordered. It will probably look like a boy watch on my skinny girl wrist but I’m gonna rock it anyways.
I bought an Olio, and it still works, but it’s paired to a dying phone I no longer carry about. Without a network connection, the Olio keeps really bad time. Hopefully this watch will work well as a time piece should the smart part stop working.
/image worthless-huge-phoenix
I don’t want the Smart-ass fone because I don’t know what it does. You might benefit by revealing what functions they perform instead of clucking on so much about a useless warrenty. You tell me what it can do for me & I Will buy it!! Don’t & guess what?..Simple as that!!
I Was gonna buy one, at least one, but since you all or your computer keeps moving changing the screen around like some Sick Joke, keep your fucking watches & move your fucking screen as much ass you like & ass funny ass you think it is!! Funny is not Money, Honey!!
My mVoice from when Meh first started selling these has taken some damage over time, but I’m trying to land a stable job here, so, Meh, you’re losing out on a sale because you insisted on selling these things like once a week until they’re gone. Maybe if I’m lucky, you’ll only sell like 500 today and there’ll be some left over for when I can afford one in like a month.
I’m thinking the next Fuck-you buckaroo grand prize will be a pallet of these on your doorstep! You know what their reaction would be…(Hint: the name of a very familiar website)
Meh. I don’t wear watches. And if I was going to spend money on a smart watch that may lose it’s smart technology… I would prefer the black face ones, which of course are more. Of course, even $19 is too much for something I’d probably just throw in a drawer anyway.
@sourhead
I just got my CL02 model = wrist brick, Irish confetti, or hockey puck on a strap. It looks nice, tells the time OK but can’t connect to anything.
It can serve as a self defense weapon that can be taken through airport security…
CL02
[1]:
I’m still looking for somebody under the age of 70 who actually wears a watch on a daily basis. I’m guessing that most of the smart watches bought are worn for maybe a month or so, then sit forgotten comfortably in a drawer.
I never have understood the need for any smart watch when your phone is…right…there… The majority of my day I’m either at my desk - with my phone sitting right next to me, or at a restaurant - with my phone sitting right next to me, or at home - with my phone sitting right next to me, or in bed - with my phone sitting right next to me, or somewhere where I don’t care about my phone or messages.
@gdibig I wear my smart watch every day. The handiest feature is that five times a day it shows me that someone is calling from my same area code and prefix, which means that a gentleman from India would like to sell me windows. I can swipe left and ignore the call without getting my phone out of my pocket.
@gdibig I wear one every day too. Now it’s an Apple Watch, but before that it was a stainless steel atomic G-Shock. I need to keep my phone on silent at work (and other places) so having a smart watch that notifies me of calls/texts/reminders/appointments, etc. via a subtle vibration is very handy. There are plenty of features I use and don’t have to worry about pulling out my phone.
At this price, I’m tempted.
They’re cheaper than my standard Timex Expedition and slightly nicer looking.
I actually have no interest in any Smart features, anyway.
Anyone know if the screen has any function without synching to any external device?
E.g., day/date, timer, that kind of thing.
I’ve used the heck out of the Martian Notifiers when I want a simple & aesthetically pleasing smart watch—and may not want to risk one of the “good” smart watches (or if I don’t want to worry about charging it for five days). No complaints. Got my mVoice from last Friday’s meh sale yesterday, and had a hell of a time trying to get it to sync to my iPhone until I realized THE SETUP INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MARTIAN WEBSITE ARE WRONG. The instructions say press the bottom button for two seconds to put the watch in pairing mode. Nope—this just turns the watch off (or on). If you pick up one of these, press the TOP button for 2-3 seconds, and the LED will start blinking blue—indicating it’s in pairing mode. Once you do that, pairing was simple. So, with maybe 12 hours of review time under my belt, I’d say that the PTL02 is a very sharp looking watch. No regrets whatsoever about picking this up last week. No regrets about any of my Martian watches. And if an iOS update eventually bricks the software (as happened with the Metawatch), then it was a good ride while it lasted and at least the watches still tell time.
@zerobxu Alright so I just paired mine and you hold the top button after the watch is turned on! So hold down the bottom button, turn the watch on, then hold the top button down.
I can’t wait to see these show up in the next weird Meh bundle. If these came with some caffeine gum and another one of those RC cars, I might pony up $20 for it.
Received mine today. Plugged into USB and flashing red LED light on face… not charging. Guessing it may have something to do with:
“Warning: Due to the nature of the Lithium polymer rechargeable battery, a Martian Watches lithium battery that is inactive for over one year may fall into a deep discharge state or could cause the battery to permanently lose it’s ability to charge”
I’ve worn this watch for about 10 hours, and I think I will wear it daily. Notifications seem to work OK. I don’t use voice control, but the functionality is there. The watch seems to run slow, but it’s only been about 10 hours since I synched it with my “atomic” clock.
Also, the flashlight feature is trippy:
The pins attaching the band to the watch have little levers which can be operated by fingertip, so I may try to replace the leather band with the stainless steel band from my Olio.
I believe I saw the same watch on the Woot app yesterday for more than twice what I paid here.
/image I’m happy
Absolutely useless app for the watch, that really screws up any of the features you want with this app. What a complete joke and waste of money, when you compare this to the flawless Martian Notifiers they sold a while back, and even the Titan JUXT not too long ago. At least those watches didn’t have constant connection issues to the point where even the base notification features don’t function

It is time to stop watching watches!!
Watch out here we go again —- for the second time or third
@AttyVette more like 20th
@AttyVette @TheGreatNico @narfcake
Because I’m feeling generous…
@AttyVette omg. @akparker777 was right.
@AttyVette @stinks now the question is do you pull the trigger or wait until they are even cheaper? Is there really only 1000 left? If there are only 1000 left, will they even be able to sell that many today? Stay tuned next Friday to find out!

/giphy how low can we go?
This didn’t just happen. I bet you had to planet that way.
Martians again? No!!’ Go home !!!
@mcemanuel Calm down there Donald
RIP these watches.
Watch me click Meh on Friday.
No, I do not want a Martian, even one that listens to me.
I am one of the SUPER Elites…do you have a super meh button?
That’s an mNo from me.
The end of the model number critique?
Or maybe these have just returned too many times.
Yeah right I bet you have a few Notifiers lying around somewhere
Wow. I don’t feel ripped off at all that I paid $10 more for mine less than a month ago. Hell, exactly 3 weeks ago…
@seraphmonkey Could be worse, and you could have bought in at $68 in January?
We get it, you want to get rid of these fucking watches. But could you at least give it more than a week between sales?
Side note: When a meh buyer gets a too good to be true deal, it’s probably a sign the manufacturer knows something they’re not telling you.
Idea #46836.
@studerc emerged from the shadows and decided to purchase one. Punish his foolishness by giving him all remaining stock after the day and require him to chronicle is journey to rid himself of all of them.
Pile them in a mehmobile and launch them to Mars.
@kdemo
Sure. Let’s start putting trash on other planets.
@kdemo
Wasn’t that for science?
Or was that just another way of wasting money?
Much like Bezos’s fancy schmancy clock.
wait didn’t the servers already go down? so this was what $40 in meh coupons for $19?
600 of em?
edit: 12:11pm eastern
oh wait they are no longer sold out…
oh wait the servers are still up?
@thismyusername Intriguing. Tell me more…
@shahnm I thought I read a post that they couldn’t setup the watch anymore… which would make the meh coupon warranty go into effect right?

@shahnm hah no I played myself, I was looking at the old sales data from the old writeup page with the warranty on it.
@shahnm @thismyusername I don’t recall either of these needing a server for anything or account creation. @shahnm @thismyusername Where’s the post saying you can’t set them up? Their site isn’t any help; doesn’t even mention that they’re out of business.
@stinks
I thought it was this one:

@sprockett01 I tried to buy them out, but was only allowed 3. Sorry I couldn’t make them go away
@matthews1977 @sprockett01 Yea me too. Lots of gifts
I got a broken Martian watch in a Fuku/o a while back. Does that count toward the coupon warranty?
i don’t understand why anyone would want this for free, much less pay american money for it.
if i found this new, unopened in my house i would throw it away.
@elpepe Dude that’s overkill. Just discard the watch and keep the house.
You’re welcome.
@elpepe
If you found this in your house, you could always donate it or sell it.
It’s not that I don’t buy the warranty, it’s that I don’t think the watches look that great.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhh
Still waiting for mine to get here from the last sale…
No regrets. But this caught my eye at the bottom of the page:
‘we chose the craziest option of all: KEEP TRYING TO SELL THEM, STILL CHEAPER THIS TIME’
Except, they’re all the same price they were sold at the last two times the mVoice and mVip went on sale here.
Cheaper != Same
I’m such a sucker for old, dead tech.
Taking one for the team!

Watches, good. App, connection, bad. Destroy them, with fire preferably.
@Beruud mine paired and worked for two days. keeps good time, tho

Next Halloween: fidget spinners for the kids, Martian watches for the adults.
I got mine from the last go round yesterday. I already can’t sync it!

I bought an mVIP for each of my kids- they’re pretty nice. I’m proud they can tell time with a watch with hands too.
I like the way the MVIP looks that just landed in my mailbox…but the watch wont pair or notify at all with my LG G5…
@fastharry Ditto with my LG Fiesta.
I don’t want the Smart-ass fone because I don’t know what it does. You might benefit by revealing what functions they perform instead of clucking on so much about a useless warrenty. You tell me what it can do for me & I Will buy it!! Don’t & guess what?..Simple as that!!

Friday is watch day

Bring back speaker dock friday plz

Nope. Don’t wear a watch. When I did it was a Skagen. These are not bad though. But NO…
I talked myself out of it last time, even after borrowing a co-worker’s mVoice he got from the first offering. Damn your persistence, meh!

So, uhh, what should we do with 1000 leftover smart watches?
Mmmm… not sell them for $30 ea? How about a three watch bundle for $20?
Watch battery does not charge in this watch. It must be replaced when it dies
Ooh watches!..again.
too much time on meh hands.
sorry, tommy.

DONT BUY THE mVIP IF YOU WANT SMARTWATCH FUNCTIONALITY.
The thing barely works. The app is frustrating and useless. Sometimes it will notify me but usually I get nothing.
If you buy it expect to just use it as a cheap watch.
/giphy droopy-wide-huckleberry
I’m tempted by these every time they come up, but then I remember that I’d have to wear a watch.
ahhhhh Martian watches…the new Speaker Docks of Meh

@broo2 Good news, everyone! I left plugged in for a few hours and the LED changed to solid red (indicating charging) -and it powered on.
@broo2 Mine did the same thing. Charged up to 100%. Whether the battery is damaged is yet to be seen.
I got mine today. It’s neat!

It’s a nice enough cheap watch, pretty thick, but the Bluetooth disconnects constantly. And as someone else noted, the app doesn’t really do much.
Absolutely useless app for the watch, that really screws up any of the features you want with this app. What a complete joke and waste of money, when you compare this to the flawless Martian Notifiers they sold a while back, and even the Titan JUXT not too long ago.
