You can get better results by buying a “baking steel” and preheating it to 500F in your home oven. A slab of steel transfers heat quickly enough at 500F to give a similar crust that would take 700F+ from a pizza stone. If you really want to cook outside I’d look into a pellet grill and a baking steel.
@Alereon I cook take-and-bake pizzas on my wood pellet grill. I start them out on the paper they come with, then after a few minutes when the crust is solid enough, I slide the pizza off directly onto the rack to finish. Delicious crispy crust with a smokey note (and a soupçon of yummy carcinogens!) .
You’re doing it wrong Meh. Imagine if instead of selling all those pizza ovens you hired someone to cook pizzas on those ovens and send them out in mystery boxes that you sell for $20 a pop?
Will it be pepperoni? Will it be Pineapple… You never know… Most likely it will be a soon to be expired beet granola bar topping the pizza. Or vegan cereal.
Instant Regret Pizza… Or IRP. You’re missing out on a massive money spinner here meh!
I don’t want a pizza oven, I want an Instant Regret Pizza.
@agnesnutter@wyvern The only acceptable use for celery is in seed/salt form, juice in V8 or curing meat. And maybe a little in soup, if it’s thoroughly cooked, or the cream of celery version as a substitute for cream of mushroom in a recipe. But that’s where i draw the line!
@wyvern Celery is much too fibrous, for one thing, but also I just don’t care for the flavor (if there’s enough that I can notice it) — too bitter or something.
@agnesnutter@lisagd You chop them into small slices so the fibrous texture isn’t an issue (and don’t forget they are partially cooked with the pizza), and bananas are only good on a dessert pizza.
@agnesnutter@wyvern I was talking in general, not just about pizza. Maybe it’s because I’m a super taster, but those two foods overwhelm whatever dish they’re in.
@mediocrebot@Xtoff yeah the bot seems to be getting better at making humans with the right number of legs and things. Also quite attractive women? The 2 ladies on the back left look like they are about to get quite intimate. Not that there’s anything wrong with that….
@mediocrebot@pmarin@Xtoff It still screwed up massively in one area.
<mode=“Hank_Hill”>Dang it! They can’t store pro-pane bottles inside the store! Not even empty ones! That’s eee-legal! And dangerous!</mode>
@mediocrebot@pmarin@werehatrack@Xtoff I wonder if this varies by state. I know a tank can’t be taken inside if it’s been used, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen new, never-used tanks for sale indoors before.
“Can it make a margarita: No, but it can make a Margherita YESSSS I’VE BEEN WAITING SO FUCKING LONG TO MAKE THIS JOKE WOOO I DID IT I FINALLY DID IT” made me lol so hard
I had one of these. It does get really hot and make good pizza. But it’s tricky because the opening in the front is quite skinny and there’s not a lot of room to work the peel on the stone. Takes some practice, especially since the pizzas cook so fast. You’ll make a few messes - and probably cause a few fires (pushing the toppings off the edge of the stone) while you get the hang of it.
We had actually considered building a pizza ove (we have a lot of old bricks, long story). Too much hassle, space, etc., for something we would only use occasionally. For the price this will be a great addition to our outdoor kitchen setup AND camper set up
I have an outdoor pizza oven with a rotating stone - it’s the best (even has a battery-powered motor if I want to take it to a park / the beach - I converted it to a plug-in rotisserie motor). Sadly it appears it’s no longer being sold on Amazon.
Had this one for years. Works great. Let the oven preheat, their dual layered stone is their secret. Takes around 5-6minutes, the crust is done at 3minutes, use the peel to lift the pizza up to the dome to finish off. Looks like Pizzacraft no longer, they did sell a door for the front. Be sure to try and snag the stand. The propane tank sits inside the stand to provide stability. It withstood 50+mph wind gusts no issues. I used a 55gal contractors bag as the cover, fits perfectly. Their cover turns brittle real quick.
@pakopako@rosros It’s a heavy-gauge plastic bag sized to fit inside a standard 55-gallon drum and overlap out the top. They’ll generally last about four months in the Texas sun.
@marclove 900 degrees will do it. I’ve got an Ooni Pro and use cowboy charcoal now ever since the propane tank ran empty the first time after I got it years ago.
My family lives on an island part of the year and while there is some good pizza to be had, it can get expensive. Thus we make our own. This will help up our pizza game.
In for one at the end of the sales day. I’m down to clown.
Thanks for asking! I love talking about it. It’s a place called Beaver Island, way out in the middle of Lake Michigan. Right at the very northern end of the lake. A 2.5 hour ferry ride or a 12 minute flight gets you the 32 miles across to the island. About 600-800 residents live there year-round and about 10X that number are on the island any given week of the summer.
Fun fact: by virtue of being so far away from land and having a small and very dispersed population that’s relatively committed to conservation, the island has some of the darkest skies that can be found in the US. They were awarded Michigan’s first international dark sky sanctuary in April:
@melonscoop
WOW, that is amazing! I’m blown away by those pictures of that sky. The northern lights and the galaxy are unbelievably breathtaking. No wonder it’s been given awards! Thanks for sharing, those articles are great, I must’ve read every single link they had. What an amazing spot you found to call home. Do you ever plan on moving there year round?

Good to know but for the price it’s almost worth it to buy the real deal from Meh!

@Alereon @macromeh a little “amuse bouche” of cancer always makes the meal.
Probably could also be used to de-ice that picnic table in your backyard after the snowfall.
“Can it make a margarita: No, but it can make a Margherita YESSSS I’VE BEEN WAITING SO FUCKING LONG TO MAKE THIS JOKE WOOO I DID IT I FINALLY DID IT”
My work is done here.
@alacrity
Yes! Excellent joke!!!
@alacrity By the way - I saw this ornament on sale at Kohl’s and immediately thought of you!
@alacrity
This still makes really shitty margaritas.
@RogerWilco
So what you guys hit by before you realize it wasn’t an IRK
Hank Hill would approve.

@djslack
Pizza, Pasta, put in a box!
At least it’s not a repeat… That’s all i got.
Anyhoo, Happy Meh Year everybody!
@ircon96
Not yet anyway.
@yakkoTDI True! <sigh>

/showme an Instant Regret Pizza
@mediocrebot I think I’ll regret that pizza more the next day.
@OnionSoup Did the bot try to sneak a black giant naga on there? Is that its version of hiding the baby Jesus in a king cake?
The best not meat topping (not counting cheese, which should be a given) is celery! Good flavor and a great textural counter.
@wyvern mushrooms! Or Sun-Dried tomatoes!
@wyvern nooooooo
@agnesnutter What is your disfunction with celery on pizza?
@agnesnutter @wyvern The only acceptable use for celery is in seed/salt form, juice in V8 or curing meat. And maybe a little in soup, if it’s thoroughly cooked, or the cream of celery version as a substitute for cream of mushroom in a recipe. But that’s where i draw the line!

@agnesnutter @wyvern The flavor is exceedingly strong, just like bananas.
@agnesnutter @lisagd You chop them into small slices so the fibrous texture isn’t an issue (and don’t forget they are partially cooked with the pizza), and bananas are only good on a dessert pizza.

@mediocrebot Eh, not exactly what I was going for, but I’ll take it.
@mediocrebot @Xtoff yeah the bot seems to be getting better at making humans with the right number of legs and things. Also quite attractive women? The 2 ladies on the back left look like they are about to get quite intimate. Not that there’s anything wrong with that….

@werehatrack I was thinking the same thing, not to mention one of the heaters on the floor being LIT! Must be a Lowe’s…
@mediocrebot @pmarin @werehatrack @Xtoff I wonder if this varies by state. I know a tank can’t be taken inside if it’s been used, but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen new, never-used tanks for sale indoors before.

@DavidChurchRN
I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t get the first time I read it when alacrity said it earlier in this thread.🫣
I like this offer! (doesn’t mean I’m going to buy one) And it’s super nice to see something different!
@cselland The included peel is stupidly large - a smaller peel would make rotating a lot easier.
I have a 10" peel and it works better.
@cselland I worked for Domino’s for over a decade so I’d probably be OK at it!
@cselland @Pufferfishy
How has it been over half a day and no one has made a “that’s what she said” joke yet?

@rosros “contractors bag”?

@rosros @werehatrack ah, I see. It’s too heavy to be moved back and forth like a grill?
“Pizzacraft Pizzacraft”
A subsidiary of Little Caesar’s?
@lisagd lol! My title edit last night did not go as planned.
@lisagd I could not figure out how to land that line last night. You nailed it!
@lisagd @troy I saw it, wasn’t sure if it was intentional for some impenetrable reason, decided to give a shrug and didn’t say anything.
OBTW, you missed the second one in the text way up at the top of the forum topic.
Can’t speak to this one - but we have an ooni and use it all the time. Makes great pizza, really fast
@marclove 900 degrees will do it. I’ve got an Ooni Pro and use cowboy charcoal now ever since the propane tank ran empty the first time after I got it years ago.
