@ironcheftoni Try hitting the packing tape with a hairdryer first. I got out some drawer liner paper that had been in a chest of drawers for years and years just by heating it.

@brainmist @werehatrack yeah, It depends how much they charge if it’s worth it. I try re-tracking it myself and the ends are embedded into the hinge pretty far back.

Thanks Kyeh, sometimes I forget I can search for that kind of stuff. That gumball machine is awe-some! I would’ve LOVED to get that! I’m a little obsessed or just in love with the one I have from the 1950’s that came from my grandfather’s first TV & appliance store. I’ve had it since I was a teenager, I added marbles and turned it into a nightlight.

But, really- how do you know?
That’s the question I bump up against every time i have to consider whether to push the buy button or not.
I actually don’t mind when they have stuff like today’s item that I don’t [wouldn’t] even have to think about buying, because it doesn’t require any thought to mash the Meh button.
Likewise, when the IRK’s are priced much above the $20 price point…
My only question on those days is whether or not I’m wasting $5 every month…

PS: Mine just flipped over from processing to shipped in the early morning hours today…

10 years of IRKs- I don’t really regret them. On balance they’ve been probably worth what I paid (I only buy when less expensive though)

Some have been super fun, but I’ve never received anything amazing- I don’t expect to suddenly get something super expensive after years of “ok”.

@OnionSoup same. Well I didn’t cancel mine but the pans are what I’ve had my fingers crossed for but that’s been years in the making so I’m not holding my breath. Mine is supposed to show tomorrow but I’m doubtful it will be the unicorn.

@werehatrack I have, but mostly close enough to ocean there was still a breeze, and minimal/ no mosquitoes (huge bonus).

In my area, there’s a lot of ag, particularly corn, which releases a whoooole lot of moisture. Currently enjoying the brief respite between painfully arid winter and painfully soupy summer…

I actually looked at the sauna bag. I had one done at a professional place and it was so relaxing.

@kknuutila I’ve gotten the stand mixer before and one set of the beaters didn’t fit into it. Dash customer service was able to replace it for free.

@Lynnerizer the oven is a little dented/caved in near one of the feet, but it seems to turn on and work just fine. i’ve noticed that the fan never turns off, even when you set the fan to off, but i’m willing to deal with it.

The bag of socks had three pair in it one quite a bit heavier than the other they have that bottom like the ones you get in a hospital have on them to be able to walk in them. It’s already hot here so they as well go in a drawer until winter and I decide if I want to keep them or not everything else can go away except the bag

@Ignorant The bottom half of our house is divided into two apartments. We decided to just leave it that way instead of spending a shit ton of money to remodel. One side is our “guest quarters” and the other side is my husband’s Man Cave. So yeah, we have three kitchens.

@Cerridwyn @duodec It’s not bad really. Just didn’t care for the flavor all that much. I will give it another try before I discard them. Even if I do decide I like it, I doubt I will like it enough to consume all 120 of them.

@cbatte @Cerridwyn I looked through the ingredients. One stood out: B12 Cyanacobalamin. I don’t remember the name of the ‘good’ B12 but this one is shit and is what you often find in generic vitamins and supplements because its cheap.

I haven’t tried it for flavor yet but will today.

@fjp999 I’m not sure how the cherry limeade packs will influence your decision about the Liquid Death packs, but I’ll share my experience:

I got 10 packs of cherry limeade last month. I like cherry limeade so I was happy to try one. But I found it to taste like a glass of lime zest with maybe a homeopathic essence of cherry. Like it dated a cherry all of junior year of high school before cherry went off to college without it, and every once in a while it still has fond memories of cherry from back in the day.

The cherry limeade packs are sweetened with various non sugar things, while the liquid death packs are sweetened with sugar. The liquid death packs also had positive comments on the flavor from users here and in reviews.

I can’t give away the cherry limeade (my sister tried hers and didn’t want any more), and I ordered the liquid death to fill the hole in my life the cherry limeade created a slot for and then vacated.

The cherry limeade might be good added to a big cup of the cherry base Firehouse Subs gives you in their DIY cherry limeade, but that would defeat the purpose of all the alternative sweeteners and I’m also not going to make the effort to find out. If I make it to Firehouse Subs I’ll just use their limes.

I like to lightly add flavor to my water. I just tried this cherry limeade and it is fine for me. I probably added 1/3 of the pak to my water bottle and could just taste the cherry but not much of the lime.
I usually just use a tiny squirt of GV watermelon or blueberry with a packet of RealLime!

@fjp999 Hmm. My experience was very different, with a very strong and almost bitter lime flavor. I wonder if I got a pack with a big clump of lime flavor in it or something, or if it’s just that we have different taste buds. I’m glad you like yours and maybe I should give it another shot.

I was drinking a generic crystal light type lemonade drink a while back and even from the same box the flavors would vary from packet to packet! Sometimes it would be sweet and sometimes I’d get a real taste of tarty sour lemon!

@fjp999 so today I tried again, and it was a completely different experience. The lime zest is still there but there is cherry present as well, and it complements the lime. It’s not my favorite, but it’s not as harsh as my first taste was.

@djslack Very interesting. When I went to taste the batch I made yesterday for the second time I could taste a lot more lime with very little cherry!

I wouldn’t wipe that down either, there’s a big difference between a hair straightener and something that cleans your asshole. Now if I’d payed for straightener, it would have been returned. I guess it all comes down to what it looks like. I was just commenting. I’m not one to use unknown products either, especially hair I don’t want lice. I can’t see it up close so I can’t really make a judgement make on it.

Couldn’t find her people so we decided to keep her. She is a muted tortie and boy oh boy does she have tortitude. (really a thing). But look at how she has flourished…photos from when we first found her to now.

I’m guessing the best thing it could do is be a “sacrificial” camera, i.e., you could use it in situations where you didn’t want to risk smashing your phone or your good digital camera, like using a GoPro camera when skiing or mountain biking.

@braveit1 your irk was identical to mine. Mine won’t work either. Be aware that they are rated 2.9 on amazon and not working, stopping working within days/weeks is a common complaint. As a result Amazon unethically dumped the non-working ones and meh was duped into buying them. Make sure whatever battery you buy is returnable as that may not fix the underlying problem. Please let me know if you find one, and where, the cost, and if it solves the problem.

@Kidsandliz did you get yours to charge? I placed it on the base and lined the contact points up with my fingers to the pads on the base. Then wiggled it around until the lights came on. It charges but it doesn’t last long. Like 15min max. But it is a vacuum, so is that normal? I can set the map zones to small areas less than 100f² to sweep and then return to the base to charge before going to another zone. I will probably build my own battery pack rather than waste money on an iHome battery.

@Kidsandliz a long time ago i got the original iRobot 1st gen from a Woot! BOC. It never worked. Woukd never charge. It only had bumper pads and collision sensors. This one is much more advanced woth the lidar amd remotes.

@braveit1 No mine never charged but I didn’t wiggle things around. I will try that.

@Kidsandliz there should be about an inch to an inch and a half between the robot and the side of the base. It doesn’t touch the verticle side when a connection is made.

@braveit1 I think I got the same robot with an earlier IRK. Mine charges and vacuums very well but after the first auto clean it now gives off all kinds of warnings! I have changed the bag and checked the pathways cleaning all I could but no change. I now take it apart and clean out dust manually. It runs pretty smoothly for the most part but gets stuck in the oddest places like corners!?! I think this thing has a lot of different issues! Good luck in getting yours to charge.

@braveit1 @Kidsandliz Agreed! If they were rated higher we wouldn’t be getting them in IRKs. I would honestly rate the vacuuming at a 5. Everything else 1. Manually cleaning is pretty simple.

@bdp I have that food processor and got it because it was the top pick at America’s Test Kitchen. It’s a tank and works so well on anything I’ve ever used it with. I paid good money for it, so consider yourself very fortunate to get one in your IRK!

@bdp @ItalianScallion Pretty much the exact same reason. ATK recommended. Have owned for a decade+. I found the complete extra disc set on ebay a few years back for a ridiculously cheap price.

As an avid cook (little stint in the industry) that food processor is probably the best piece of equipment I have seen on here. Second would be the blendtec, which mine is still going strong.

@bdp @KNmeh7 I have another of these food processors on my kitchen table right now. A friend, knowing I’m a tinkerer, asked me to take a look at it because it just doesn’t do anything when turned on. The cool thing about this one is that it’s a made-in-Japan one, which I’ve discovered are quite sought-after. It’s got a plastic body that’s off-white, but may have been (closer to) white years ago, instead of the stainless steel one, but other than that it looks identical to the one in this IRK.

And I did try resetting the motor safety switch (the one that gets pressed when the bowl is in place), and no dice.

@bdp I have a recipe for a super fast pizza or naan that I use the food pro for. Not sure if you’re into that but if you are I will happily share. I use mine for so many things but the dough is super simple and it’s 90 seconds of kneading instead of 10-12.

I’ve only had to replace one piece because I’m too rough on my gear and I broke a plastic bit. They’re truly the best. The simpler, the better when it comes to kitchen equipment.

@00null00 Might want to reconsider using the sunscreen. Reputable sources, like the Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic, warn against using expired sunscreen since it’s not likely to be effective after the expiration date. They note that children are especially at risk because they tend to play outside a lot. I’m actually quite surprised that Meh would put expired sunscreen in IRKs both for the health and the legal risks.

@lisagd22 Make sure you check the expiration dates on that sunscreen before you rely on it to protect you!

@lisagd22 when the champ died a few weeks ago, those grills were hard to find. Guess not so hard anymore.

@lisagd22 Only a very few things I never suggest taking past its expiration date is: Dairy products (canned goods is ok, canned good deteriorate in quality but is never harmful unless botulism), and Sunscreen.

As I was putting the luggage away, I was reminded that it was a container and sure enough, inside I found 1 bottle of expired sunscreen, 1 bag of expired doggie treats, 1 travel adapter for the USA, and 2 packages of fake nails (Clutch Nails in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” blue). So, 6 things + 2 bags!

My suitcase, which came by FedEx and not USPS, only weighs 8 pounds. Nathan lugged a lot heavier boxes of pasta without a single complaint. But he never told me how his wife reacted to all of the pounds of pasta I sent home with him. I should ask him.
