Look Smart Trivia: Flag Mashups
4Hi this is @moose, @JasonToon can’t come to the phone right now but he told me to give you this message:
The vocabulary of flag design only includes a handful of elements - and good flag design even fewer. So if you recombine pieces of different flags, will they still look like designs that could be real? Let’s desecrate some national symbols and find out! Today I’ve sliced and diced ten flags of currently sovereign states. For each of the five, name the two nations whose flags have been combined. If you’re the first to get it right, you’ll win that $5 Meh coupon. Just FYI: I haven’t flipped or rotated anything, changed any colors, or even changed sizes much. Insert signoff catchphrase here!
Live from New York, or somewhere near New York in cosmic terms, and not live because it happened yesterday, it’s @Limewater! Their correct pinpointing of the source of all five of our Sketch Comedy clips is already scheduled to be turned into a terrible movie:
- The State
- Cedric the Entertainer Presents
- Bruiser
- You Can’t Do That On Television
- The Dana Carvey Show

@cinoclav Boom! Bookmarked! This rules.
Fun with flags:
Let me be the first to say that the mashup in #2 is SPECTACULAR.
I want to form my own sovereign nation just so I can use this flag.
Excellent work, @JasonToon.
@steelopus #2 AND #5 I thought were both total works of art. I really admire the work that goes into these.
