Ah, #4 brings back memories of when cable TV first came to my town… I remember when MTV was actually Music Television. I remember sticking a paper clip into the back of the cable box because people said that if you did it just right, you’d unlock all the channels. I remember watching scrambled Skinemax because between all the scrambled fuzz there’d be the occasional clearly visible boob. And, I remember watching a corny, whacky, kid’s sketch comedy show on Nickelodeon with Canadian accents and a young Alanis Morissette called “You Can’t Do That on Television”.
(I believe that show was also the origin of Nickelodeon’s trademark slime.)
@JasonToon Just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and effort in doing these. They’re obviously time consuming to put together. With that, I was wondering if it drives you a little crazy when someone comes up with the answers very quickly?
@cinoclav Thanks for the kind words - and for being a part of this every day! The only bummer for me is when there’s no conversation at all. I mainly do this because I think all this stuff is interesting and cool, so it’s fun for me when people talk about it - whether that’s because they’re trying to figure out a difficult or ambiguous clue, or (like today and yesterday) because the clues have sparked conversations on their own. Only one person can win every day, so I worry less about that and more about making the whole thing entertaining for everybody.
@JasonToon I absolutely love this and I’m glad I can be a part of it. The $5 coupons are a very nice bonus but the challenge of figuring out the answers is quite satisfying once solved. You’re right though, I wish more people would get involved. I wonder if some people have been scared off, thinking they can’t compete. But there have been a really good mix of ‘just google the photo and answer’ and ‘holy crap - what kind of insane geniuses does he think we are’ quizzes. I’ll have to remember to throw some comments in other threads to try and get people to wander into the Look Smart territory.
Yesterday, @steelopus saw right through the mists of time to swiftly and correctly ID five icons Before They Were Rock Stars:
@jasontoon I think you need more helmets.
@Limewater uuuugggggghhhh. 2 minutes.
@Limewater Wow, fast! Awesome job, dare I say the best? What will a bot do?
Just in case my answer to #5 above was not specific enough:
I loved The Dana Carvey Show so much.

@DennisG2014 Get out of my brain.
@DennisG2014 @steelopus I’m thinking we’re all around the same age. If I could just get that cable box dialed in between these two stations…
@cinoclav @steelopus I’ll hit the half-century mark in August.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@DennisG2014 @steelopus Can’t get too much closer. I’ll hit it in September.
@cinoclav @DennisG2014 yall have ~10 years on me, but we all lived through the '80s, and that’s all that matters.
@cinoclav @DennisG2014 @steelopus aah ha October for me
@cinoclav @lehigh @steelopus So, what I hear you all saying is that I’m the old fart here?
@DennisG2014 @lehigh @steelopus I was going to say it but I was taught to respect my elders.
@cinoclav Damn right, whippersnapper!

My new lot in life is to try to generate conversation in Look Smart Trivia threads.
